A Study of Heat Flux and Instantaneous Temperature According to the Equivalence Ratio in a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber (정적 연소기에서 당량비 변화에 따른 순간열유속에 관한 연구)

  • In the gasoline engine industry. there has been a trend towards the development of high performance engines with improved fuel efficiency, reduced weight and smaller sizes. These trends help to solved engine problems related to thermal load and abnormal combustion. In order to investigate these Problems, a thin film-type probe for instantaneously measuring temperatures has been suggested. A method for manufacturing such a probe was established in this study. The instantaneous surface temperature of a constant volume combustion chamber was measured by this probe and the heat flux was obtained through Fourier analysis. A peak instantaneous temperature was obtained after 55∼60 ms from ignition and the temperature increased according to an equivalence ratio and varied differently according to the position of the probe. Total heat loss during combustion period was affected by the equivalence ratio and differed widely in accordance to the position of the probe.

A Study on the Effect of Frozen Dough after Fermentation with Sweet Dough Bread (단과자빵의 1차 발효 후 냉동생지에 관한 연구)

  • Sweet dough bread is made by using sponge & dough method with the sweet dough formula which consists of wheat gluten and baking powder. The effect of wheat gluten and baking powder to the bread has been studied after the dough frozen, stored, thawed, fermented. and baked. The bread quality has been evaluated by measuring the product volute and also by the sensory evaluation after baking. When 4% of wheat gluten and 4% of baking powder were added into the dough. the bread has a larger volume than that of 2% wheat gluten and 2% baking powder in volume. However. wheat gluten shows better result than baking powder in terms of volume. In sensory evaluation, the bread has higher score when 2% of wheat gluten and 2% of baking powder were added into the dough than that of 4% wheat gluten and 4% baking powder. Consequently, breads show better result when 2% wheat gluten and 2% baking powder were added into the dough than that of 4% wheat gluten and 4% baking powder.

  • This research was conducted to suggest some directions for desirable urban green space planning through 1) establishing a new classification system by examining the existing concept, problems and characteristics of green space and 2) defining the essence of green space environment and finding some analytical and evaluative methods through a clear establishment of functions, indicators of green space. In the research, measurements of the amount of green space was accompanied with measurements of green covered space, green volume, and the structure of greenery within the frame of vision. As result, three-dimensional measurement was possible, three-dimensional measurement was possible, which turned out to be more effective than the existing 2-dimensional measuring method. It is found that the ratio of green covered space is to proportional to the ratio of green volume in this study. Therefore in green space planning process it is desirable to consider the ratio of green volume all together.

  • By using Siregnost FD 91 body plethysmograph, we measured thoracic gas volume (TGVe) at end of expiration in 19 healthy subjects aged 20-43 years in order to compare with functional residual capacity (FRC) measured by closed circuit method. The results obtained were as follows 1. Mean values of TGVe and FRC were $3.395{\pm}0.5851{\ell},\;and\;3.393{\pm}0.618{\ell}$, respectively. 2. A advantage of the body phethysmographic method for measuring thoracic gas volume was that it were rapid, safe, and easy to perform, requires no gas sample for chemical analysis, and measured TGVe several times.

  • In this experiment the effects of the packing structure of pigment on the surface characteristics (smoothness and gloss) of coated paper are studied. Four different kinds of inorganic pigments(clay), ground calcium carbonate(GCC), two of precipitated calcium carbonates(PCC), and two organic pigments(solid bead and hollow type) were used. The method of measuring the relative sediment volume(RSV) was used to analyze the packing structure of coating layer. The relative sediment volume was measured, using the pressure dewatering dry-cake method(PDDM) and centrifuge method. Also, the particle size distribution of coating pigment was determined. The results showed that small amount of organic pigment, added to inorganic pigment, improved smoothness and its effect was greater when GCC was used as inorganic pigment. The efficiency of organic pigment depended upon the inorganic pigment since the organic pigment is packed in the pores formed by the inorganic pigment.

  • In the present study, the internal combustion engine tends to high performance, fuel economy, small-sized. Therefore, it is necessary to solve the problems on thermal load, abnormal combustion, etc in the engine. Thin film instantaneous temperature probe was made, and the measuring system was established. The instantaneous surface temperatures in the constant volume combustion chamber were measured with this system and the heat flux was obtained by Fourier analysis. LASER-INDUCED SOOT VAPORIZATION CHARACTERISTICS IN THE LAMINAE DIFFUSION FLAMES

  • The characteristics of soot vaporization induced by a high-energy Pulsed laser were studied in an ethylene-air laminar flame. A system consisting of two pulsed lasers was used for the experiments. The pulse from the first laser was used to vaporize the soot particles, and the delayed pulse from the second laser was used to measure the residual soot volume fraction. Laser-induced soot vaporization was characterized according to the initial particle size distribution. The results indicated that soot particles could not be completely vaporized simply by introducing a high intensity laser pulse. Residual soot volume fractions present after vaporization appeared to be insensitive to the initial soot particle size distribution. Since the soot vaporization effect is more pronounced in the region of high soot concentrations, this laser-induced soot vaporization technique may be a very useful tool for measuring major species in highly sooting flame.

  • The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of the effect of a flow motion on the flame development by means of an optically-accessible constant-volume combustion chamber and the visualization technique of a combustion flame. At first, the characteristics of a flame propagation are investigated in the combustion field of the two kinds of flow conditions such as a quiescent and a flowing condition, and methane-air mixture is used as fuel. Then the same investigation is performed in two flow configurations : bulk flow motion type and turbulence generating type. In this study, the combustion phenomena are analyzed by measuring the combustion pressure, flame propagation speed, mean velocity, turbulent intensity, and mass fraction burned.

Comparison of Analytical Method for Measuring Particulate Matter in Indoor Air (실내공간에서의 공기중 먼지 측정방법에 관한 비교분석)

  • Since most people spend a large majority of their time indoors (at least in the industrialized countries), indoor air may affect human health more than outdoor air. This study was carried out to characterize the reference and equivalent methods against the low volume method which was promulgated by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. The Laser and Piezo air sampler offer the advantage of real time data and low labor costs. The arithmetic mean concentrations were found to be 102.9% (Laser-2 min method) and 65.9% (Piezo method) against low volume method (100%). The statistical analysis procedure for this comparision is linear regression. The linear regression line of low volume method had slopes of 0.5487 and 0.9697 and Y intercepts of 0.0266 and 0.0110 $\mu$g/m$^3$ about Laser (2 min) and (24 h) method respectively. And the correlation coefficients were 0.7271 and 0.9433.

Investigation of pressure-volume-temperature relationship by ultrasonic technique and its application for the quality prediction of injection molded parts

  • In this study, an ultrasonic technique was employed to obtain pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) rela­tionship of polymer melt by measuring ultrasonic velocities under various temperatures and pressures. The proposed technique was applied to on-line monitoring of injection molding process as an attempt to predict quality of molded parts. From the comparison based on Tait equation, it was confirmed that the PVT behav­ior of a polymer is well described by the variation of ultrasonic velocities measured within the polymer medium. In addition, the changes in part weight and moduli were successfully predicted by combining the data collected from ultrasonic technique and artificial neural network algorithm. The results found from this study suggest that the proposed technique can be effectively utilized to monitor the evolution of solid­ification within the mold by measuring ultrasonic responses of various polymers during injection molding process. Such data are expected to provide a critical basis for the accurate prediction of final performance of molded parts.
