Mobile Application based on Image Processing and a Proportion for Food Intake Measuring

  • In the paper, we propose a new reliable technique for measuring food intake based on image automatically without user intervention. First, food and bowl image before and after meal is obtained by user. The food and the bowl are divided into each region by the K-means clustering, Otsu algorithm, Morphology, etc. And the volume of food is measured by a proportional expression based on the information of the container such as it's entrance diameter, depth, and bottom diameter. Finally, our method calculates the volume of the consumed food by the difference between before and after meal. The proposed technique has higher accuracy than existing method for measuring food intake automatically. The experiment result shows that the average error rate is up to 7% for three types of containers. Computer simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm is a convenient and accurate method of measuring the food intake.

3D 초음파 영상에서 방광 내 잔뇨량 추정을 위한 새로운 알고리즘 (A New Algorithm to Estimate Urine Volume from 3D Ultrasound Bladder Images)

  • For the patients with bladder dysfunction, measurement of urine volume inside the bladder is very critical to avoid bladder failure. In measuring urine volume inside a bladder, low-resolution 3D ultrasound images are widely used. However, urine volume estimation from 3D ultrasound images is prone to big errors and inconsistency because of low spatial resolution and low signal-to-noise ratio of ultrasound images. We developed a new robust volume estimation algorithm which is not computationally expensive. We tested the algorithm on a lab-built ultrasound bladder phantom and volunteers. The average error rate of the human bladder volume estimation was 5.9% which was better than the commercial machine.

Characteristics of Droplet Properties in the Two-Phase Spray into a Subsonic Cross Flow

  • The spray cross-section characteristics of two-phase spray that using external-mixing nozzle injected into a subsonic cross flow were experimentally studied with various ALR ratio that is $0{\sim}59.4%$. Suction type wind tunnel was used and experiments were conducted to ambient environment. Several plain orifice nozzles with L/d of 30 and orifice diameter of 0.5 mm and orifice length 1.5 mm were tested. Free stream velocity profiles at the injection location were measured using hot wire. Spray images were captured to study collision point and column trajectory. Phase Doppler particle analyzer(PDPA) was utilized to quantitatively measuring droplet SMD, volume flux. Measuring probe of PDPA positions was moved 3-way transverse machine. SMD distributions were layered structure and peaked at the top of the spray plume and low value at bottom of the spray. Volume flux of spray was distributed to the two side region and volume flux quantity decreased when ALR ratio increased. It was found that the perpendicularly injected two-phase spray jet of external mixing into a cross flow showing that mistlike spray moved away from the test section bottom region.

  • Changes of the surface area and the volume of limb are important factors for designing clothes and shoes. The limb volume increases slightly in the afternoon in general, because of human activity, as a diurnal variation. Changes are also associated with menstrual cycle, pregnancy, physical exercise and environmental temperature. The most effective method for measuring the surface area of limb is the paper replacement method.

  • Stroke volume (SV) is an important parameter for monitoring of a critically ill animal and is echocardiographically measured using the modified Simpson's method, automated contour tracking (ACT) method and left ventricular outflow method. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of anesthesia (isoflurane) on the SV during echocardiographic examination and to evaluate the feasibility of ACT method for measuring the stroke volume without anesthesia (conscious state). Ten clinically healthy adult Beagle dogs (3 male and 7 female, weighing 6.6-10.8 kg, aged 2-3 years old) were enrolled. Our study found that the dogs anesthetized have a significantly lower SV, compared to the SV of dogs unanesthetized, regardless of methods measuring SV. In addition, in the dogs without anesthesia, the SV measured by ACT method was significantly lower than the other two methods. This result implies that the anesthesia may significantly lower the SV. Thus, the measurement of SV under anesthesia may not be adequate in veterinary field. Furthermore because the ACT method measured SV significantly lower than other two methods, this method may be inappropriate for measuring SV in even conscious dogs.

  • Soil volume conversion factors are used for estimation of an excavated the soil volume which will be removed or added in levelling the ground surface of a construction site. An accurate evaluation method will help us reduce a construction cost and time consuming. In this study, we performed the laboratory tests, including grain size measurement, water content, specific gravity, porosity, density and XRD tests, to suggest reliable soil volume conversion factors and weathering indices in field using nondestructive methods. The weathering index and soil volume conversion factor L are obtained for different types of soils. At results, the CIW index is the best method measuring the weathering index and the factor L is relative to natural porosity, void ratio, density and dry density.

  • The measuring tests on the rest position capacity and the tongue volume were conducted on the one hundred normal dental college students and staffs of Seoul National University in order to study the relationships between the est position Capacity and tongue volume. The results were as follows : 1) The correlation between the rest position capacity and tongue volume was hardly recognized. 2) The correlation between tongue volume and the weight was recognized. 3) Physiologic reflex was coused by the water injected in the mouth in the rest position. 4) Each correlation of the height and cheek thickness to the tongue volume was not recognized.

  • The optimal shipping location is determined by measuring the volume and weights of cargo shipped to non-standard cargo carriers. Currently, workers manually measure cargo volume, but automate it to improve work inefficiency. In this paper, we proposed the method of a real-time volume calculation using LiDar sensor for automating cargo measurement of non-standard cargo. For this purpose, we utilized the statistical techniques for data preprocessing and volume calculation, also used Voxel Grid filter to light weighted of data which are appropriate in real-time calculation. We implemented the function of Normal vectors and Triangle Mesh to generate surfaces and Alpha Shapes algorithms to process 3D modeling.

  • A volumetric error compensation method was stueide with measuring systematic error of a Coordinate Measuring Machine(CMM). The volumetric error equations were proposed for a Moving Bridge type CMM. Using the error equations, error vectors in the measuring volume were corrected by a software method. The CMM was controlled by the compensation program separately in the measuring and moving function of the CMM proving. The linear accuracy of the CMM was measured by the Laser Interferometer and compared with the data before the volumetric error compensation. This method was proved as low cost and effective to reduce the systematic error of the CMM, as no hardware modification is required.

  • 본 연구에서는 2사이클 기관의 흡입 포오트 부근의 가스 유동을 레이저 도플 러 유속계를 이용하여 측정하고 가스의 평균 속도, 속도 변동, 유속 벡터 등을 기관의 회전 속도, 실린더 헤드의 모양 및 실린더로의 흡입 속도 측정점의 위치 변화에 대하 여 비교 검토하고, 유동 특성을 고찰하였다.
