  • The assembly line is one of the typical process hard to analyze with mathematical methods including even stochastic approaches, because it includes many manual operations varying drastically depending on operators' skills. In this paper, we suggest the simulation optimization method to design the optimal assembly line of a gas oven. To achieve the optimal design, firstly, we modeled the real gas oven assembly line with actual data, such as assembly procedures, operation rules, and other input parameters and so on. Secondly, we build some alternatives to enhance the line performance based on business rules and other parameters. The DOE(Design Of Experiment) techniques were used for testing alternatives under various situations. Each alternatives performed optimization process with evolution strategy; one of the GA(Genetic Algorithm) techniques. As a result, we can make about 7% of throughputs up with the same time and cost. By this process, we expect the assembly line can obtain the solution compatible with their own problems.

  • In recent years, studies about multitasking becomes more important. During multitasking, operators can feel frustration when they are interrupted during the task and frustration can affect operator's emotional state and performance. However there is no research on measuring the frustration quantitatively in multitasking environment. In this paper, we suggested quantitative measurement of frustration during multitasking. In order to measure the frustration, we made a mathematical representation with emotional decay model and the initial intensity of frustration based on cognitive closure theory. The amount of initial intensity could be represented as the ratio of actual remaining time to expected remaining time. By the experiment, we measured the frustration during the experiment and compared this values with values of frustration dimension of NASA-TLX. Finally we got the linear regression model with a good accuracy ($R^2=0.986$). This study contributes to measuring the emotion quantitatively by the relation of expected and actual remaining time in multitasking environment.

  • We study the Sobolev spaces to the generalized Sobolev spaces $H^s_{\mathcal{G}}$ of exponential type based on the Silva space $\mathcal{G}$ and investigate its properties such as imbedding theorem and structure theorem. In fact, the imbedding theorem says that for $s$ > 0 $u{\in}H^s_{\mathcal{G}}$ can be analytically continued to the set {$z{\in}\mathbb{C}^n{\mid}{\mid}Im\;z{\mid}$ < $s$}. Also, the structure theorem means that for $s$ > 0 $u{\in}H^{-s}_{\mathcal{G}}$ is of the form $$u={\sum_{\alpha}\frac{s^{{|\alpha|}}}{{\alpha}!}D^{\alpha}g{\alpha}$$ where $g{\alpha}$'s are square integrable functions for ${\alpha}{\in}\mathbb{N}^n_0$. Moreover, we introduce a classes of symbols of exponential type and its associated pseudo-differential operators of exponential type, which naturally act on the generalized Sobolev spaces of exponential type. Finally, a generalized Bessel potential is defined and its properties are investigated.

  • The paper is concerned with periodic linear evolution equations of the form x"(t) = A(t)x(t)+f(t), where A(t) is a family of (unbounded) linear operators in a Banach space X, strongly and periodically depending on t, f is an almost (or asymptotic) almost periodic function. We study conditions for this equation to have almost periodic solutions on ℝ as well as to have asymptotic almost periodic solutions on ℝ+. We convert the second order equation under consideration into a first order equation to use the spectral theory of functions as well as recent methods of study. We obtain new conditions that are stated in terms of the spectrum of the monodromy operator associated with the first order equation and the frequencies of the forcing term f.

  • This paper presents an application of a new Adaptive Genetic Algorithms(AGA) to solve the Optimal Routing problem(ORP) for distribution system planning. In general, since the ORP is modeled as a mixed integer problem with some various mathematical constraints, it is hard to solve the problem. In this paper, we proposed a new adaptive strategy in GA to overcome the premature convergence and improve the convergence efficiency. And for these purposes, we proposed a fitness function suited for the ORP. In the proposed AGA, we used specially designed adaptive probabilities for genetic operators to consider the characteristics of distribution systems that are operated under radial configuration. The proposed algorithm has been tested in sample networks and the results are presented.

  • With the constant increase in network traffic, wireless operators are finding it more challenging to keep network hardware costs to a minimum. At the same time, the energy cost associated with operating a network has increased proportionally. Therefore, the search for higher network capacity is simultaneously accompanied by the search for a cost-efficient network deployment. In this paper, we show that a saving in transmitted signal energy can be achieved at the signal design level by deploying very specific signal processing techniques. Using an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing signal for Long-Term Evolution networks as an example, we utilize a novel non-uniform companding quantizer to save a transmitted signal energy. Our results show that by using non-uniform quantization it is possible to further optimize 4G wireless networks.

  • Ship operators use anchor dredging for the collision avoidance or safety of ship handling in a harbour or narrow channel. This paper clarifies the technique of the anchor dredging known as a common sense for. the seafarers A mathematical model at low speed range is established for the estimation of ship motion under the assumed environment, simulate the advance speed , and turning ability under the anchor dredging or not. The results shows good agreement with the conventional seamanship and their experiences as follows. Ahead speed used the anchor dredging is slower(speed reduction ratio:40%) than the normal ahead speed and the stopping distance is shorter (distance reduction ratio:40%)than the normal ahead distance without the anchor dredging.. Turning speed used anchor dredging is slower(speed reduction ratio:72%)than the normal ahead speed and the tactical diameter is shorter(distance reduction ratio:24%)than the diameter by the normal turning without the anchor dredging.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to manage production system easily for operators when either equipments or products are changed. And we explain the scheduling AI tool which realizes the proposal method. The tool's knowledge expression consists of models, rules, mathematical expression and fuzzy logic. The model expresses the relations between products and manufacture, and properties of products. The models are separated into three type, equipment model, operation model, and product model. These models are classified by applicable fields as the assembly process or continuous plant process, The model expression of each type is based on object oriented paradigm. We report systems utilizing our approach.

  • This paper addresses the transportation planning that is based on genetic algorithm for determining transportation time and transportation amount of minimizing cost of distribution system. The vehicle routing of minimizing the transportation distance of vehicle is determined. A distribution system is consisted of a distribution center and many retailers. The model is assumed that the time horizon is discrete and finite, and the demand of retailers is dynamic and deterministic. Products are transported from distribution center to retailers according to transportation planning. Cost factors are the transportation cost and the inventory cost, which transportation cost is proportional to transportation distance of vehicle when products are transported from distribution center to retailers, and inventory cost is proportional to inventory amounts of retailers. Transportation time to retailers is represented as a genetic string. The encoding of the solutions into binary strings is presented, as well as the genetic operators used by the algorithm. A mathematical model is developed. Genetic algorithm procedure is suggested, and a illustrative example is shown to explain the procedure.

  • Dynamic models have been developed for the coal gasification process by using a modular approach method. The complete unit is divided, for the convenience of the analysis, into several sections, viz. the coal feeding system, the gasifier, the gas cooler, the valves, the pumps, etc. The dynamic behaviour of each section is described in mathematical terms and each term is modulized into several submodels consisting of the complete process. To represent the behaviour of the fluid flow, the hydraulic network is proposed. Results for the more important system variables are presented and discussed. There dynamic models enable process and control engineers to quickly review a wide range of alternative operating and control strategies and help operators to easily understand the process dynamics and eventually can be applied to the design of commercial scale IGCC plants.
