  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effects 6th grade mathematics lessons applying story making have on the mathematics achievement and attitude toward mathematics. For this study, using two examination devices for measuring mathematical attitudes and mathematics learning achievement, a pre-test and post-test were conducted. In the pre-test, it was found that the two groups are identical groups. The post-test was used for verifying the research problems and the results of post-test were analyzed using t-test. The findings of this study are below. First, lessons applying story making influenced the mathematics achievement of children. This implies that lessons applying story making are more effective for improving a mathematics achievement than a general teaching and learning method. Also, when carrying out the t-test of pre-test and post-test results of learning achievement in experimental groups, there was a significant change as well. It is therefore supposed that lessons applying story making have positive effect on the mathematics achievement of children. Second, lessons applying story making influenced the mathematical attitudes of children. This implies that the lessons are more effective for improving mathematical attitude than a general teaching and learning method. Also, when carrying out the t-test of pre-test and post-test results of mathematical attitudes in experimental groups, there was a significant change as well. It is therefore supposed that lessons applying story making have positive effect on mathematical attitudes of children. From the results, it was found that mathematics lessons applying story making can be used to change the mathematics achievement and mathematical attitudes of students positively.

  • This study examines the longitudinal effect of goal perception, mathematics class factors(perceptions about mathematics teachers (PMT), mathematics classroom attitude), and mathematics academic achievement. This study consists of three research models. First, we examined the longitudinal change of goal perception, perceptions about mathematics teachers (PMT), mathematics classroom attitude, and mathematics academic achievement using latent growth curve modeling. Secondly, the slope of PMT is a critical mediator between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Finally, the slope of mathematics classroom attitude is a critical mediator between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Data were extracted from Seoul Education Longitudinal Study from 2010 to 2012 (in three waves), and the analysis used by middle school students, measured by 4163 students of the three-wave surveys. Latent growth modeling was applied to verify the research problems. The results of the research are as follows. First, the slope of goal perception had positive and significant effects on the slope of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude, respectively. Second, the slope of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude had positively significant effects on the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Finally, it was confirmed that the slopes of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude are critical mediators between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate how the use of graphing calculators influence on forming students' mathematical concept of algebra, students' mathematical connection, and attitude toward mathematics. First, graphing calculators give instant feedback to students as they make students compare their written answers with the results, which helps students learn equations and linear inequalities for themselves. In respect of quadratic inequalities they help students to correct wrong concepts and understand fundamental concepts, and with regard to functions students can draw graphs more easily using graphing calculators, which means that the difficulty of drawing graphs can not be hindrance to student's learning functions. Moreover students could understand functions intuitively by using graphing calculators and explored math problems volunteerly. As a result, students were able to perceive faster the concepts of functions that they considered difficult and remain the concepts in their mind for a long time. Second, most of students could not think of connection among equations, equalities and functions. However, they could understand the connection among equations, equalities and functions more easily. Additionally students could focus on changing the real life into the algebraic expression by modeling without the fear of calculating, which made students relieve the burden of calculating and realize the usefulness of mathematics through the experience of solving the real-life problems. Third, we identified the change of six students' attitude through preliminary and an ex post facto attitude test. Five of six students came to have positive attitude toward mathematics, but only one student came to have negative attitude. However, all of the students showed positive attitude toward using graphing calculators in math class. That's because they could have more interest in mathematics by the strengthened and visualization of graphing calculators which helped them understand difficult algebraic concepts, which gave them a sense of achievement. Also, students could relieve the burden of calculating and have confidence. In a conclusion, using graphing calculators in algebra and function class has many advantages : formulating mathematics concepts, mathematical connection, and enhancing positive attitude toward mathematics. Therefore we need more research of the effect of using calculators, practical classroom materials, instruction models and assessment tools for graphing calculators. Lastly We need to make the classroom environment more adequate for using graphing calculators in math classes.

Is there any difference of self-conception on the subject between experimental group applied to learning of constructivist discussion and comparative group? A-2. Is there any difference of attitude on the subject between experimental group applied to learning of constructivist discussion and comparative group? A-3. Is there any difference of learning habits on the subject between experimental group applied to learning of constructivist discussion and comparative group? B. Is learning of constructivist discussion effective against mathematics achievement? The objects of study are 30 children of one class in the third grade of elementary school in Seoul for experimental group, and another one class with 30 children is comparative group. Study results and conclusion based on those results are as follows; First, students make reflective thinking through communication each other, therefore, instructor should create discussion environment for communication to express and form their mathematical thinking. Next, adaptability in student's mathematics activities and mathematical ideas should be permissible, and those should become divergent thinking. However, this study analyzed comparative results from only two each class having enrollment of thirty in the third grade. Accordingly, results from students in various grades and environment that are required to get more significant conclusion statistically.

  • The rigorous requirements of modern spacecraft missions necessitate a precise attitude determination strategy. This paper mainly researches that, based on three space-borne attitude sensors: 3-axis rate gyros, 3-antenna GPS receiver and star-sensor. To obtain global attitude estimation after an information fusion process, a feedback-involved Federated Kalman Filter (FKF), consisting of two subsystem Kalman filters (Gyros/GPS and Gyros/Star-sensor), is established. In these filters, the state equation is implemented according to the spacecraft's kinematic attitude model, while the residual error models of GPS and star-sensor observed attitude are utilized, to establish two observation equations, respectively. Taking the sensors' different update rates into account, these two subsystem filters are conducted under a variable step size state prediction method. To improve the fault tolerant capacity of the attitude determination system, this paper designs malfunction warning factors, based on the principle of ${\chi}^2$ residual verification. Mathematical simulation indicates that the information fusion strategy overwhelms the disadvantages of each sensor, acquiring global attitude estimation with precision at a 2-arcsecs level. Although a subsystem encounters malfunction, FKF still reaches precise and stable accuracy. In this process, malfunction warning factors advice malfunctions correctly and effectively.

  • This research is a survey study on students' attitude toward a class employing small group discussion and presentation by the method of free-listing. Participants in this study were students who registered in the course of Mathematical Logics and Writing during 2011 and 2014. Senior students who took the course of theory of mathematics education previously usually registered the course. The class for this course used to be designed as a class adopting group discussion and presentation. Main theme of this research is not to demonstrate some theories or hypothesis on teaching and learning, but rather to inquire students' attitude toward a class employing the constituents first and then through analyzing the results of this study to find practical ideas and strategy for design and implementation of a class which brings cultivation of students' understanding, communication and moreover writing in mathematics. Since the survey was given in the $8^{th}$ week of this class, participants of this research could be expected to have more concrete idea for positive or negative aspects of the classes employing these constituents. We compared both research results of 2011 and 2014 to view any changes in students' attitude. Research results are follows. Students began to think that group discussions and presentation bring out better learning to them. Not to give students psychological burden of discussion and presentation, instructors need to provide comfortable atmosphere through arranging suitable grouping and enough time for discussion. Moreover, simple evaluations criteria for group discussions and presentation should be well structured and more concrete guides for them are required to make students to feel comfortable and to concentrate on the given subject for discussion.
