Synthesis and Characterization of Soybean-based Ester Insulation Oils (대두유 에스테르계 절연유의 합성과 분석)

  • Electrical insulation is one of the most important parts in a high voltage apparatus. Traditionally mineral oils and synthetic esters have been widely used as dielectric coolants for power transformers. Recently, researchers are interested in the environmentally friendly vegetable oil from the environmental viewpoint. This paper reports on the synthesis and characterization of soybean based ester oils. Two different types of soybean based transformer oils, named as methyl ester and isopropyl ester were synthesized. The synthesis of these esters was achieved by transesterification reactions between soybean oil and alcohol in the presence of catalyst. The GC and NMR spectroscopic analysis of the esters have been performed. It was observed that isopropyl ester has better thermal resistance than methyl ester by TGA. Also, two esters have a good breakdown voltage and electrical resistance.

  • We report aqueous synthesis of cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots(QDs) using imidazolium-based ionic liquids with various functional groups. The functinalized ionic liquids were designed to have thiol groups, and then phase transfer with aqueous or organic solvents can be adjusted by changing side chain lengths of the cation and the choice of anion. The quantum yield was obtained IL-functionalized CdTe QDs reached up to 40% by post-treatment method.

  • New synthetic method for methyl-7-iodoheptanoate was studied. Methyl-7-iodoheptanoate is important compound in the synthesis codlemone, the sex pheromone of codling moth which doing harm to apple tree significantly, and this compound also be used essentially in the synthesis of prostaglandin derivatives. In previous the methyl-7-iodoheptanoate has been prepared from-7-chloroheptanoic acid as a starting material with disadvantage, since the 7-chloroheptanoic acid is expensive and the process is much complicate. In this paper the method to preparing methyl-7-iodoheptanoate was developed economically by using dihydropyran as a starting material in the course of 5 steps. Hence, methyl-7-iodoheptanoate which can be synthesized by new method studied onthis paper should be very useful compound for preparing codlemone or its acetate which will be used to developing pollution-free insecticides, and for preparing prostaglandin derivatives with advantage.

  • Adenosine 5'-phosphonates have been reported as potential chain terminators against Hepatitis C virus (HCV); therefore, we developed convenient sequences for synthesis of modified adenosine 5'-phosphonates in which the hydroxyl group at 2' or 3'-position of the sugar moiety is substituted with the azido or amino group and the oxymethyl group at the 4'-position is modified by the ethylene or vinyl group. This synthetic sequence can provide six adenosine 5'-phosphonates via one protocol, and is considered to be very efficient and a convenient route of synthesis. An assay of adenosine 5'-phosphonate analogues (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) against HCV infection is now in progress.

  • A methanol synthesis process via reverse-water-gas-shift and methanol formation reactions has been analyzed using the notion of exergy. The analysis has been based on the simulation results with the aid of real operating data. Driving and material exergy losses have been defined and quantified, respectively. Locations and the reason of major exergy losses have been pinpointed and improvement strategies have been suggested. It had been noted that the exergy analysis can provide a sound scientific base for adopting the concept of industrial ecology and developing loss prevention schemes.

  • Microstructure and additive effect of Lead Zirconate-Titanate(PZT) ceramics prepared by molten salt synthesis method with additives $Nb_2O_5, Fe_2O_3$ and MnO were investigated.The grain PZT ceramics ws decreased with the increase $Nb^{5+} or Fe^{3+}$ while increased with the increase $Mn^{2+}$ addition. The relative resistivity of PZT ceramics was increased with the increase $Mn^{5+}$ addition, while decreased with the increase $Mn^{2+}$ addition. And the dielectric and the piezoelectric constant of PZT ceramics showed 2,100 and 342pC/N at $Mn^{5+}$ addition of 0.75 mol%, respectively.
