Steel, concrete and their combination materials are the most 6commonly used materials for civil engineering structural systems such as buildings, bridge structures and other structures. Recently, however, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, a relatively new composite material made of fibers and polymer resins, have been gradually used in structural systems as an alternative structural material. This paper describes a comparison of design strength equations for steel column and FRP composite column based on design philosophies. The safety factors used in allowable stress design (ASD) are relatively higher in FRP structural design than steel structural design. Column critical stress equations of FRP composites column from an experimental study can be represented by Euler elastic buckling equation at the long-range of slenderness, and an exponential form at the short-range of slenderness as defined in Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) of steel column. The column strength of steel and FRP composite columns in large slenderness is independent of material strength, this result verified the elastic buckling equation as derived by Eq. (15) and Eq. (5).
Most recently, offshore Engineering & Construction field is concerned about integration management technology such as CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing), PDM(Product Data Management) and Enterprise Information Engineering in order to cope with the rapid change of engineering and manufacturer specification as per owner's requirement during construction stage of the project. System integration and integrated data modeling with relational database in integration management technology improve the quality of product and reduce the period of the construction project by reason of owing design information jointly. This paper represents the design methodology of system integration using Business Process Reengineering by the case study. The case study is about the offshore plant material information process from front end engineering design to detail engineering for the construction and the basis of monitoring system by integrating and sharing the design information between the 2D intelligent P&ID and 3D plant modeling using relational database. As a result of the integrated data modeling and system integration, it is possible to maintain the consistency of design process in point of view of the material balancing and reduce the design assumption/duration. Near future, this system will be expanded and connected with the MRP(Material Requirement Planing) and the POR (Purchase Order Requisition) system.
The purpose of this study is providing a usage of exterior, interior finish materials and color scheme for architectural design and the actual texture and pattern plans of finish materials from Le Corbuisier's work, Chapel Ronchamp. Chapel Ronchamp was analyzed to support the study for the interaction between texture usage and color expression. As a powerful design tool, texture, pattern and color of finish materials are very effective to alter the perception of the facade in the building. Most of architectural buildings, shapes and materials of elevations are monotonous and uniform. This study should be considered by details in the elevation of Chapel Ronchamp. As the part for developing and planning of architectural design, researching color plans and finish material is very important on real expression in the architectural space. As a result, this study will benefit in planning both the exterior and interior environments of color and finish material with texture and pattern.
The purpose of this study is to grope for plan methods through analyzing preferences on expression methods of materials for visual differentiation in hosing space. The results are as follows : First, we could know that finish material is the important element to make differential design in housing space. It is a effective method to use the color and material of finish materials. Second, we could find they preferred woods in materials and Y color, N9.5, bright and light in colors through grasping preference about types in material elements. The preferred texture is soft and the preferred patterns are solid and geometry. Third, it is a good method to mix materials which give us different season feeling, and to mix colors which are different tones to lead the differential design by materials in housing space. In case texture and patterns, what we mix similar things is the effective method. Fourth, preference of the expression method is manifested differently depending on the selected elements. so when we plan the housing, we have to consider that. lastly, I think this study will be a basic data on a study to differentiate the design of the residential space.

With recent attempts to improve quality and productivity, the prefabrication manufacturing system has been occupying an increasing share of the construction area. To minimize site work, material is more frequently being produced and partially assembled at a plant, and then installed at a site. For this reason, the production process is being divided and the materials are being delivered to the site after passing through multiple plants. With these changes in the production process, the materials delivery plan is becoming an important management point. In particular, as road transportation using trucks has a 71 percent share of the domestic transportation market, selecting the proper transportation path is important when delivering materials and equipment to a site. But the management system at the project design phase to calculate the delivery cost by considering the production process of the pre-fab material and the $CO_2$ emission at the material delivery phase is currently lacking. This study suggests a process design model for assembly production of the pre-fab material and transportation logistics based on carbon emission. The suggested model can be helpful to optimize the location of the intermediate plant. It is expected to be utilized as a basic model at the project plan and design phase when subcontractors make decisions on items such as materials procurement, selecting the production method, and choosing the location of the assembly plant.

This paper studies the designing method and application for grommets, rubber material used to absorb vibration on the air conditioner compressor. The existing grommet with hardness 40 degrees, EPDM, has the high transmissibility on the compressor that causes additional structure born sound. The problem for EPDM is transformation over long time usage possibly due to its design in which stress is concentrated on a certain position. In order to resolve it, silicon material was previously used with the same design in some models. The vibration performance did improve, but the cost became high. Below are the major developments regarding improvements in compressor rubber material, vibration performance and durability through design change, and new grommet to attain cost reduction. 1 The optimum grommet design for stress even distribution through FEM methods. 2. Comparison for grommet material and design for improved transmissibility. 3. Assess for grommets durability and product applications.

In the design of composite aircraft structures, it is very important to set material allowables and design values, which take into account certification. And when determining the material allowable and design value of composite structures, the static strength, damage tolerance requirements, and environmental effects should be considered. The building block approach has been applied to the civil and military aviation industry for a long time and provides the principal certification methodology. This current certification methodology is based on extensive testing including coupon, element, sub-component, and full scale test. In this paper, some examples of composite allowable tests have been presented and the fundamental background and application methods of the building block approach have been presented.

Capacity design is to guarantee ductile failure of whole bridge system by preventing brittle failure of columns and any other structural elements until the columns develope fully enough plastic deformation capacity. This concept has been explicitly regulated in most bridge design specifications of foreign countries except the current Korea Bridge Design Specifications. In the capacity design, the transformed shear force from flexural overstrength of reinforced concrete column is used as the design lateral shear force for shear design of columns and design of footings and piles. Different calculating methods are adopted by the design specifications, since the variability of material strength and construction circumstances of the local regions should be considered. This paper proposed material overstrength factors by investigating 3,407 reinforcing bar data and 5,405 concrete compressive strength data collected in Korean construction sites. It also proposed calculating procedures for flexural overstrength of reinforced concrete columns using the material overstrength. Finally, overstrength factor was proposed as 1.5 by investigating 1,500 column section data from moment-curvature analysis using the material overstrength.

Though multi-panel structures lined with a poroelastic material have been widely used to reduce sound transmission in various fields, most of the previous works to design them were conducted by repeated analyses or experiments based on initially given configurations or sequences. Therefore, it was difficult to obtain the optimal sequence of multi-panel structures lined with a poroelastic material yielding superior sound isolation capability. In this work, we propose a new design method to sequence a multi-panel structure lined with a poroelastic material having maximized sound transmission loss. Being formulated as a one-dimensional topology optimization problem for a given target frequency, the optimal sequencing of panel-poroelastic layers is systematically carried out in an iterative manner. In this method, a panel layer is expressed as a limiting case of a poroelastic layer to facilitate the optimization process. This means that main material properties of a poroelastic material are treated as Interpolated functions of design variables. The designed sequences of panel-poroelastic layers were shown to be significantly affected by the target frequencies; more panel layers were used at higher target frequencies. The sound transmission loss of the system was calculated by the transfer matrix derived from Biot's theory.
Using the 'New material' concept has recently been introduced into the natural characteristics. In the course of such a, Janine M. Benyus has proposed to mimic the characteristics of natural ecosystems to mention the concept of Biomimicry. Process made engineered using technical elements for representing the material properties of Biomimicry such will be acting importantly, This study intends to analyze how new materials applied to 'Biomimicry' characteristics are processed in space. The results were as follows : 1) Processing methods of new materials resulted as 'Forming', 'Surface treatment', 'Bonding', 'Inserting'. These four were divided and analyzed into 'Form', 'System', 'Adaptation'. As a result of this analysis, such significances were shown as 'Forming/Surface treatment/Bonding' in 'Form', 'Bonding' in 'System' and 'Adaptation'. 2) 'Bonding' applied to 'System' of new material can be recycled to be combined with other materials through the existing adhesive material, and present as a solution of 'Sustainable development'. 3) 'Bonding' applied to 'Adaptation' of new material is to impart the ability to react to the environment through the joint, but is characteristic, at this time, using digital and other field technology. It appeared primarily that it can be known to meet the social trends and convergence between fields. Thus, as the finish that are friendly to the environment from the interior design, the results of the study are expected to be utilized in the study of new materials guidelines.
