The optimal conditions for operating a moving-aeration bioreactor were determined as 30rpm and 150 (ml/min) of air flow rate, which can yield ca. 7.3 (l/h)of maximum mass transfer coefficient. It was also found that the agitation speed played much much important role than air input rate in oxgen transfer into the medium. $2.6{\times}10^6$ (cells/ml) and 0.6 (ml/l) of maximum cell denisty and IL-2 production were observed in batch cultivation of IL-2 producing BHK cell line. 0.53 (mM/l/h) of oxygen uptake rate was also estimated. The performance of a moving-aeration bioreactor (specific growth rate and oxygen uptake rate, etc.) was superior to other culture systems, such as cell-life and static membrane aeration bioreactors. Ii must be useful to apply this reactor to many culture processes by improving structural limitations in scaling-up the system.

Critical two-phase flow rates of subcooled water through very short tube (L=20 mm) with small diameters (D=1.0 mm) has been measured for wide ranges of subcooling(0~186$^{\circ}C$) and pressure (0.5~2.0 MPa). Experimental results show that subcooled critical two-phase flow rates can be expressed in terms of two scaling parameters for geometries and initial conditions. They are discharge coefficient of cold water, ( $C_{d}$ )$_{ref}$, and dimensionless subcooling, $\Delta$$T^{*}$$_{sub}$, respectively. A new empirical correlation expressed in terms of ( $C_{d}$ )$_{ref}$ and $\Delta$$T^{*}$$_{sub}$ is obtained for subcooled two-phase flow rates through very short length tube. Comparisons between the mass fluxes calculated by Present correlation and a number of experimental data show that the agreement is very good.ood.ood.ood.
Interactions of a humanoid with a human are important, when the humanoid is requested to provide people with human-friendly services in unknown or uncertain environment. Such interactions may require more complicated and human-like behaviors from the humanoid. In this work the arm motions of a human are discussed as the early stage of human motion imitation by a humanoid. A motion capture system is used to obtain human-friendly arm motions as references. However the captured motions may not be applied directly to the humanoid, since the differences in geometric or dynamics aspects as length, mass, degrees of freedom, and kinematics and dynamics capabilities exist between the humanoid and the human. To overcome this difficulty a method to adapt captured motions to a humanoid is developed. The geometric difference in the arm length is resolved by scaling the arm length of the humanoid with a constant. Using the scaled geometry of the humanoid the imitation of actor's arm motions is achieved by solving an inverse kinematics problem formulated using optimization. The errors between the captured trajectories of actor arms and the approximated trajectories of humanoid arms are minimized. Such dynamics capabilities of the joint motors as limits of joint position, velocity and acceleration are also imposed on the optimization problem. Two motions of one hand waiving and performing a statement in sign language are imitated by a humanoid through dynamics simulation.
A numerical investigation is conducted to search for the optimal flow rate for a rotating-disk chemical vapor decomposition reactor operating at a high temperature and a low pressure. The flow of a gas mixture supplied into the reactor is modeled by a laminar flow of an ideal gas obeying the kinetic theory. The axisymmetric two-dimensional flow in the reactor is simulated by employing a CFD package FLUENT. With operating pressure and temperature fixed, numerical computations are performed by varying rotation rate and flow rate. Examination of the structures of flow and thermal fields leads to a flow regime diagram illustrating that there are a stable plug-like flow regime and a few unfavorable flow regimes induced by mass unbalance or buoyancy. The criterion for sustaining a plug-like flow regime is discussed based on a theoretical scaling argument. Interpretation of the flow regime map suggests that a favorable flow is attainable with a minimum flow rate at the smallest rotation rate guaranteeing the dominance of rotation effects over buoyancy.

Dry skin is caused mainly by the perturbation of stratum corneum lipids which affected by ageing, change of season, excess use of surfactant and the effect of disease like atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Intercellular lipid structures in stratum corneum are responsible for the barrier function of mammalian skin. The major lipd classes that can be extracted from stratum corneum are ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acid, which make up approximately 50, 25, 10 percent of the stratum corneum lipid mass, respectively. Small amount of cholesterol sulfate, phospholipids, glycosylceramide and cholesterol esters are also present. Recent studies have shown that application of one or two these lipids to the perturbed skin delays barrier recovery; only equimolar mixtures allow normal recovery. We observed that barrier recovery rate was improved in hairless mouse by topical application of single neutral lipids (ceramide, free fatty acid, cholesterol) and lipid mixtures. Whereas the application of single lipid didn’t allows a significant enhancement comparing with normal barrier repair, the equimolar mixtures of 3 components(including synthetic pseudoceramide PC104) improved barrier repair, as assessed by the transepidermal water loss. At clinical study to the volunteers aged over sixty, skin dryness recuperated by the increase of moisture(capacitance) and the reduction of scaling. Utilization of physiologic lipid mixture containing natural ceramides or synthetic pseudoceramide could lead to new forms of topical therapy for the dryness and dermatoses(e.g., psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and irritant dermatitis).
A fully coupled thermo-mechanical model is adopted to study the temperature distribution and the material deformation in friction stir welding(FSW) process. Rotational speed is most important parameters in this research. Three dimension results under different process parameters were presented. Result indicate that the maximum temperature is lower than the melting point of the welding material. The higher temperature gradient occurs in the leading side of the workpiece. The maximum temperature can be increased with increasing the tool angular velocity, rpm in the current numerical modeling. In this research ABAQUS Ver.6.7 is to analyze a fully coupled thermo-mechanical model. ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) finite element formulation is used for the large deformation in FSW process and using the Mass scaling for the analysis time efficiency.
In this work, equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in a microcanonical ensemble are performed to evaluate the friction coefficient of a Brownian particle (BP) in a Lennard-Jones (LJ) solvent. The friction coefficients are determined from the time dependent friction coefficients and the momentum autocorrelation functions of the BP with its infinite mass at various ratios of LJ size parameters of the BP and solvent, ${\sigma}_B/{\sigma}_s$. The determination of the friction coefficients from the decay rates of the momentum autocorrelation functions and from the slopes of the time dependent friction coefficients is difficult due to the fast decay rates of the correlation functions in the momentum-conserved MD simulation and due to the scaling of the slope as 1/N (N: the number of the solvent particle), respectively. On the other hand, the friction coefficient can be determined correctly from the time dependent friction coefficient by measuring the extrapolation of its long time decay to t=0 and also from the decay rate of the momentum autocorrelation function, which is obtained by time integration of the time dependent friction coefficient. It is found that while the friction coefficient increases quadratically with the ratio of ${\sigma}_B/{\sigma}_s$ for all ${\sigma}_B$, for a given ${\sigma}_s$ the friction coefficient increases linearly with ${\sigma}_B$.
Organic solar cells have attracted much interest due to the potential advantage of the lightness, simple solution processing and flexibility. Until recently, the focus of organic solar cells research has been on optimization of material processing to improve the power conversion efficiency. However, area scaling is an important position for alternative to the market dominating solar cells. Spray deposition technologies have advantage of less material wastage and possibility of large scale photoactive area coating when compared with spin coating process. We investigated the performance of organic solar cells as a function of active area using two types of deposition process. The commonly used process is spin coating which can be fabricated organic materials deposition for devices. Spray deposition process compare with spin coating for large-area organic solar cells. The spray deposition organic layer shows excellent performance up to the active area of $4\;cm^2$ with the PCE of ~3.0 % under AM.1.5 simulated illumination with an intensity of $100mW/cm^2$. This indicates that the spray deposition process can be used as a mass production process for evaluating large-area organic solar cells.

The pressure drop of a moisture separator in a steam generator is the important design parameter to ensure the successful performance of a nuclear power plant. The moisture separators have a wide range of operating conditions based on the arrangement of them. The prediction of the pressure drop in a moisture separator is challenging due to the complexity of the multi-dimensional two-phase vortex flow. In this study, the moisture separator test facility using the air/water two-phase flow was used to predict the pressure drop of a moisture separator in a Korean OPR-1000 reactor. The prototypical steam/water two-phase flow conditions in a steam generator were simulated as air/water two-phase flow conditions by preserving the centrifugal force and vapor quality. A series of experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of hydraulic characteristics such as the quality and liquid mass flux on the two-phase pressure drop. A new prediction model based on the scaling law was suggested and validated experimentally using the full and half scale of separators. The suggested prediction model showed good agreement with the steam/water experimental results, and it can be extended to predict the steam/water two-phase pressure drop for moisture separators.

Background: Those classified as Tae-Eum (TE)-type people in Sasang constitutional medicine (SCM) are prone to obesity. Although extensive clinical observations have confirmed this tendency, the underlying physiological mechanisms are unknown. Here, we propose a novel hypothesis using integrative physiology to explain this phenomenon. Methods: Hypoactive lung function in the TE type indicates that respiration is attenuated at the cellular level - specifically, mitochondrial oxygen consumption. Because a functional reduction in cellular energy metabolism is suggestive of intrinsic hypoactivity in the consumption (or production) of metabolic energy, we reasoned that this tendency can readily cause weight gain via an increase in anabolism. Thus, this relationship can be derived from the graph of cellular metabolic power plotted against body weight. We analyzed the clinical data of 548 individuals to test this hypothesis. Results: The statistical analysis revealed that the cellular metabolic rate was lower in TEtype individuals and that their percentage of obesity (body mass index >25) was significantly higher compared to other constitutional groups. Conclusion: Lower cellular metabolic power can be an explanation for the obesity trend in TE type people.
