In this study, a spectral fatigue analysis was performed for the topside structure of an offshore floating vessel. The topside structure was idealized using beam elements in the SACS program. The fatigue analysis was carried out considering the wave and wind loads separately. For the wave-induced fatigue damage calculation, motion RAOs calculated from a direct wave load analysis and regular waves with different periods and unit wave heights were utilized. Then, the member end force transfer functions were generated covering all the loading conditions. Stress response transfer functions at each joint were produced using the specified SCFs and member end force transfer functions. fatigue damages were calculated using the obtained stress ranges, S-N curve, wave spectrum, heading probability of each loading condition, and their corresponding occurrences in the wave scatter diagrams. For the wind induced fatigue damage calculation, a dynamic wind spectral fatigue analysis was performed. First, a dynamic natural frequency analysis was performed to generate the structural dynamic characteristics, including the eigenvalues (natural frequencies), eigenvectors (mode shapes), and mass matrix. To adequately represent the dynamic characteristic of the structure, the number of modes was appropriately determined in the lateral direction. Second, a wind spectral fatigue analysis was performed using the mode shapes and mass data obtained from the previous results. In this analysis, the Weibull distribution of the wind speed occurrence, occurrence probability in each direction, damping coefficient, S-N curves, and SCF of each joint were defined and used. In particular, the wind fatigue damages were calculated under the assumption that the stress ranges followed a Rayleigh distribution. The total fatigue damages were calculated from the combination with wind and wave fatigue damages according to the DNV rule.
This study is for the great quantity use of fly-ash. For the producing of high volume concrete from the use of fly-ash, the method of replacement between bonding agents and fine aggregate by fly-ash at the same time was used. It was used that the adiabatic temperature rise of concrete about the mass member which bad been produced by the method that was mentioned before, and the hydration heat of the core test pieces in concrete was measured. Also the core test pieces which were replaced with fly-ash was studied by the compressive streneth's comparison between standard care test pieces and core test pieces. In the case of mass test pieces, hydration heat and the tine to reach the highest temperature were decreased by an increase in replaced fly-ash's amounts of concrete. In addition, among the test pieces having the same amounts of concrete, the test pieces having more replaced amounts of fly-ash's fine aggregate showed higher hydration heat and the increased time to reach the highest temperature. Compressive strength was also increased by hydration heat's decrease according to fly-ash replacement. Replacement of fly-ash was more effective in high temperature environment.

We present a new void definition that connects voids with clusters, the high-density counterpart. We use a pair of ΛCDM simulations whose initial density fields are sign inverted versions to each other, and study the relation between the effective void volume and the corresponding cluster mass. Massive cluster halos (M ≥ 1013M⊙/h) are identified in one simulation at z=0 by linking dark matter particles. The corresponding void to each cluster is defined in the other simulation as the region occupied by the member particles of the cluster. We find a universal functional form of density profiles at z=0 and 1. We also find a power-law relation between the void effective radius and the corresponding cluster mass. Based on these findings, we identify cluster-counterpart voids directly from a density field without using the pair information by utilizing three parameters such as the smoothing scale, density threshold, and minimum core fraction. We identified voids corresponding to clusters more massive than M ≥ 3 × 1014M⊙/h at approximately 70-74 \% level of completeness and reliability. Our results suggest that we can detect voids comparable to clusters of a particular mass-scale.
We introduce an advanced one-to-one galaxy correspondence method that populates dark matter halos with galaxies by tracing merging histories of most bound member particles (MBPs) identified in simulated virialized halos. To estimate the survival time of a satellite galaxy, we adopt several models of tidal-destruction time derived from an analytic calculation, isolated galaxy simulations, and cosmological simulations. We build mock galaxy samples for each model by using a merging tree information of MBPs from our new Horizon Run 4 N-body simulation from z = 12 to 0. For models of galaxy survival time derived from cosmological and isolated galaxy simulations, about 40% of satellites galaxies merged into a certain halo are survived until z = 0. We compare mock galaxy samples from our MBP-galaxy correspondence scheme and the subhalo-galaxy scheme with SDSS volume-limited galaxy samples around z = 0 with $M_r-5{\log}h$ < -21 and -20. Compared to the subhalo-galaxy correspondence method, our method predicts more satellite galaxies close to their host halo center and larger pairwise peculiar velocity of galaxies. As a result, our method reproduces the observed galaxy group mass function, the number of member galaxies, and the two-point correlation functions while the subhalo-galaxy correspondence method underestimates them.

Monopiles have been most widely used for supporting offshore wind turbines (OWTs) in shallow water areas. However, multi-member lattice-type structures such as jackets and tripods are also considered good alternatives to monopile foundations for relatively deep water areas with depth ranging from 25-50 m owing to their technical and economic feasibility. Moreover, jacket structures have been popular in the oil and gas industry for a long time. However, several unsolved technical issues still persist in the utilization of multi-member lattice-type supporting structures for OWTs; these problems include pile-soil-interaction (PSI) effects, realization of dynamically stable designs to avoid resonances, and quick and safe installation in remote areas. In this study, the effects of PSI on the dynamic properties of bottom-fixed OWTs, including monopile-, tripod- and jacket-supported OWTs, were investigated intensively. The tower and substructure were modeled using conventional beam elements with added mass, and pile foundations were modeled with beam and nonlinear spring elements. The effects of PSI on the dynamic properties of the structure were evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation considering the load amplitude, scouring depth, and the uncertainties in soil properties.

A safety assessment code, called SAGE (Safety Assessment Groundwater Evaluation), has been developed to describe post-closure radionuclide releases and potential radiological doses for low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW) disposal in an engineered vault facility in Korea. The conceptual model implemented in the code is focused on the release of radionuclide from a gradually degrading engineered barrier system to an underlying unsaturated zone, thence to a saturated groundwater zone. The radionuclide transport equations are solved by spatially discretizing the disposal system into a series of compartments. Mass transfer between compartments is by diffusion/dispersion and advection. In all compartments, radionuclides ate decayed either as a single-member chain or as multi-member chains. The biosphere is represented as a set of steady-state, radionuclide-specific pathway dose conversion factors that are multiplied by the appropriate release rate from the far field for each pathway. The code has the capability to treat input parameters either deterministically or probabilistically. Parameter input is achieved through a user-friendly Graphical User Interface. An application is presented, which is compared against safety assessment results from the other computer codes, to benchmark the reliability of system-level conceptual modeling of the code.
A new type of the human TSA homologous gene was cloned from a HeLa cell cDNA and characterized. The gene product consists of 161 amino acids with a molecular mass of 16,900. The TSA homologous protein, as a new 6th member of the human TSA (hTSA VI), exerted a thioldependent peroxidase activity with the use of thioredoxin system as a physiological electron donor. The values of $V_{max}/K_m$ of hTSA VI for $H_2O_2$ and t-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) were calculated as $5.53{\times}10^{-2}$ and $3.70{\times}10^{-2}$, respectively. This implies that hTSA VI is a peroxidase, which reduces $H_2O_2$ and t-BOOH. The mutation of $Cys^{47}$ to serine resulted in a complete loss of the peroxidase activity. This suggests that $Cys^{47}$ acts as a primary site of catalysis. The analysis of the tryptic digest derived from hTSA VI revealed that the $Cys^{47}$ exists as a free thiol form. Taken together, these results suggest that the TSA homologous protein is a new type of the human family, which exerts thioredoxin-linked peroxidase activity toward $H_2O_2$ and alkyl hydroperoxide.
Background : The purpose of this study was to understand general attitudes of physicians toward hospital quality improvement activities who have been members of QA committee in 32 Korean university hospitals. Methods : A postal survey about opinions of hospital quality improvement activities and desirable policy directions was sent to 328 QA committee member physicians. The questionnaires were composed of 48 items. In total 152 physicians responded to this survey(response rate: 49.3%). This study was carried out from January to February 1996. Results : Most physicians(97.5%) recognized the necessity of hospital QA activities. The most dominant supporting reason for quality activities was to improve clinical outcome. Two thirds of physicians regarded their own hospital activities for quality improvement as inactive. They considered that the obstacles were too little concern(33.6%), unclear objectives(28.9%), lack of human resources(14.3%), and insufficient education and training for quality improvement(10.1%). The most favoring policy among respondents was to give health care providers economic incentives. Provision of education and training for implementing quality improvement was the next to it. Physicians revealed their preferences for professional society, government, health insurance societies, consumer groups, hospital labor unions, and mass media in sequence as sponsoring agencies for hospital accreditation program. Conclusion : These study suggested that the concrete means for motivating physicians and promoting constructive partnership among related parties should be developed in order to activate current hospital quality activities in Korea.
Composite effect between steel and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) in steel reinforced-RAC (SRRAC) structures can effectively improve RAC's adverse mechanical properties due to the natural defects of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA). However, the performance of SRRAC after thermal exposure will have a great impact on the safety of the structure. In this paper, firstly, the mechanical properties of SRRAC structures after high temperatures exposure were tested, including 24 SRRAC columns and 32 SRRAC beams. Then, the change rules of beams and columns performance with the maximum temperature and replacement percentage were compared. Finally, the formulas to evaluate the residual bearing capacity of SRRAC beams and columns after exposure to high temperatures were established. The experimental results show that the maximum exposure temperature can be judged by the apparent phenomenon and mass loss ratio of RAC. After high temperatures exposure, the mechanical properties of SRRAC beams and columns change significantly, where the degradation of bearing capacity and stiffness is the most obvious. Moreover, it is found that the degradation degree of compression member is more serious than that of flexural member. The formulas of residual bearing capacity established by introducing influence coefficient of material strength agree well with the experimental results.
