Frozen orbit is an attractive option for orbital design owing to its characteristics (its argument of pericenter and eccentricity are kept constant on an average). Solar sails are attractive solutions for massive and expensive missions. However, the solar radiation pressure effect represents an additional force on the solar sail that may greatly affect its orbital behavior in the long run. Thus, this force must be included as a perturbation force in the dynamical model for more accuracy. This study shows the calculations of initial conditions for a lunar solar sail frozen orbit. The disturbing function of the problem was developed to include the lunar gravitational field that is characterized by uneven mass distribution, third body perturbation, and the effect of solar radiation. An averaging technique was used to reduce the dynamical problem to a long period system. Lagrange planetary equations were utilized to formulate the rate of change of the argument of pericenter and eccentricity. Using the reduced system, frozen orbits for the Moon sail orbiter were constructed. The resulting frozen orbits are shown by two 3Dsurface (semi-major, eccentricity, inclination) figures. To simplify the analysis, we showed inclination-eccentricity contours for different values of semi-major axis, argument of pericenter, and values of sail lightness number.
Cavitation phenomena observed during the operation of a submerged plain journal bearing (PJB) can affect bearing performance parameters such as dynamic coefficients, whirl frequency ratio, and critical mass. This study presents numerical solutions of the Reynolds equation for steadily and dynamically loaded submerged PJBs with half-Sommerfeld (HS), Reynolds, and Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson (JFO) cavitation models when the supply pressure is larger or equal to the cavitation pressure. The loads at various eccentricity ratios are identical; however, the attitude angle is approximately 6% smaller when the eccentricity ratio is between 0.2 and 0.7 and the JFO model is used, compared to that when the Reynolds model is used. Dynamic coefficients obtained with the HS and Reynolds model show good agreement with each other, except for kxz, which is sensitive to changes in the force normal to the rotor weight, and is attributed to the difference in the attitude angle obtained with each cavitation model. Stiffness coefficients are determined using the pressure distribution in the film, and therefore, when the JFO model is used, the direct stiffness coefficients are affected and show opposite signs for most eccentricity ratios. The mass-conservative JFO model can predict at least a 30% smaller critical mass compared to that using the HS and Reynolds models. Thus, the instability analysis results can change based on the cavitation model used in a submerged PJB. The results of this research indicate that the JFO model should be used when designing a rotor system supported by submerged PJBs.
Based on the empirical formulas for power spectra of generalized modal forces and local fluctuating wind forces in across-wind and torsional directions, the wind-induced lateral-torsional coupled response analysis of a representative rectangular tall building was conducted by setting various parameters such as eccentricities in centers of mass and/or rigidity and considering different torsional to lateral stiffness ratios. The eccentricity effects on the lateral-torsional coupled responses of the tall building were studied comprehensively by structural dynamic analysis. Extensive computational results indicated that the torsional responses at the geometric center of the building may be significantly affected by the eccentricities in the centers of mass and/or rigidity. Covariance responses were found to be in the same order of magnitude as the along-wind or across-wind responses in many eccentricity cases, suggesting that the lateral-torsional coupled effects on the overall wind-induced responses can not be neglected for such situations. The calculated results also demonstrated that the torsional motion contributed significantly to the total responses of rectangular tall buildings with mass and/or rigidity eccentricities. It was shown through this study that the framework presented in this paper provides a useful tool to evaluate the wind-induced lateral-torsional coupled responses of rectangular buildings, which will enable structural engineers in the preliminary design stages to assess the serviceability of tall buildings, potential structural vibration problems and the need for a detailed wind tunnel test.
We investigated the dynamical properties of the K2-3 multi-planet system. Recently three transiting planets are discovered using the extended Kepler2 (K2) mission (Crossfield et al. 2015). We extended their preliminary stability study by considering a substantial longer integration time. Since planet mass is not known from photometry we calculated exoplanets masses using empirical mass-radius relations (Weiss & Marcy 2014). Forward numerical integration was done using the MERCURY integration package (Chambers 1999). Our results demonstrate that this system is stable over a time scale of $10^8years$. Furthermore, we investigated the dynamical effects of a hypothetical planet in the semi-major axis vs eccentricity space. For stable orbits of the hypothetical planet we calculated transit-timing variation (TTV) and radial velocity signals. We find that for a hypothetical perturber with mass 1-13 Mjup, semi-major axis 0.2 - 0.8 AU and eccentricity 0.00-0.47 the following timing signals for the planet K2-3 b is ~ 5 sec, K2-3 c is ~ 130 sec and for K2-3 d is ~ 190 sec. The radial velocity signal of the hypothetical planet is ~ 4 m/s. Using typical transit-timing errors from the K2 mission, we find that the above hypothetical planet would not be detectable. Its radial velocity signal, however, would be detectable using the APF 2.4m telescope or HARPS at the ESO/La Silla Observatory in Chile.
In an actual design, none of the structures with shear behaviors will be designed for torsional moments. Any failure or damages to roofs, infills, shear walls, and braces caused by an earthquake, will inevitably result in relocation of center of mass and rigidity of the structure. With these changes, the dynamic characteristics of structure could be changed during an earthquake at any moment. The main objective of this paper is to obtain the relationship between time-varying eccentricity of load and corner lateral displacement. In this study, various methods have been used to determine the structural response for time-varying lateral corner displacement. As will be seen below, some of the structural calculation methods result in a significant deviation from the actual results, although these methods include the interaction effects of modes. Controlling the lateral displacement of structure can be performed in different ways such as, passive dampers, friction dampers, semi-active systems including the MR damper and active Systems. Selecting and locating these control systems is very important to bring the maximum safety with minimum cost into the structure. According to this study will be show the relation between the corner lateral displacements of structure and time-varying eccentricity by different kind of methods during an earthquake. This study will show that the response of the structure at the corners due to an earthquake can be very destructive and because of changing the eccentricity of load, calculating the maximum possible response of system can be carried out by this method. Finally, some kind of systems must be used for controlling these displacements. The results shows that, the CQC, DSC and exact methods is comply each other but the results of Vanmark method is not comfortable for these kind of buildings.

Progressive collapse, which is referred to as the collapse of the entire building under local damages, is a common failure mode happened by earthquakes. The collapse process highly depends on the whole structural system. Since, asymmetry of the building plan leads to the local damage concentration; it may intensify the progressive collapse mechanism of asymmetric buildings. In this research the progressive collapse of regular and irregular 6-story RC ordinary moment resisting frame buildings are studied in the presence of the earthquake loads. Collapse process and collapse propagation are investigated using nonlinear time history analyses (NLTHA) in buildings with 5%, 15% and 25% mass asymmetry with respect to the number of collapsed hinges and story drifts criteria. Results show that increasing the value of mass eccentricity makes the asymmetric buildings become unstable earlier and in the early stages with lower number of the collapsed hinges. So, with increasing the mass eccentricity in building, instability and collapse of the entire building occurs earlier, with lower potential of the progressive collapse. It is also demonstrated that with increasing the mass asymmetry the decreasing trend of the number of collapsed beam and column hinges is approximately similar to the decreasing trend in the average story drifts of the mass centers and stiff edges. So, as an alternative to a much difficult-to-calculate local response parameter of the number of collapsed hinges, the story drift, as a global response parameter, measures the potential of progressive collapse more easily.

Modern codes for earthquake resistant building design require consideration of the so-called accidental design eccentricity, to account for torsional response caused by several factors not explicitly considered in design. This provision requires that the mass centres in the building floor be moved a certain percentage of the building's dimension (usually 5%) along both the x and y axes and in both positive and negative directions. If one considers also the spatial combinations of the two component motion in a dynamic analysis of the building, the number of required analyses and combinations increases substantially, causing a corresponding work load increase for practicing structural engineers. Another shortcoming of this code provision is that its introduction has been based primarily on elastic results from investigations of oversimplified, hence questionable, one story building models. This problem is addressed in the present paper using four groups of eccentric braced steel buildings, designed in accordance with Eurocodes 3 (steel) and 8 (earthquake design), with and without accidental eccentricities considered. The results indicate that although accidental design eccentricities can lead to somewhat reduced inelastic response demands, the benefit is not significant from a practical point of view. This leads to suggestions that accidental design eccentricities should probably be abolished or perhaps replaced by a simpler and more effective design provision, at least for torsionally stiff buildings that constitute the vast majority of buildings encountered in practice.
This research investigates experimentally and numerically the tilting angle, eccentricity ratio, flying height of axial direction, friction torque, and critical mass of the HDD disk-spindle system due to HDD positioning angle. The tilting angle and the eccentricity ratio are the maximum when the HDD positioning angle is $90^{\circ}$ respect to horizontal position because the external force in radial direction and the torque applied to the rotating part are the maximum when the HDD positioning angle is $90^{\circ}$. The flying height increases with the increase of the HDD positioning angle because the direction of gravity applied to the rotating part changes. The friction torque increases with the increase of the HDD positioning angle until it becomes $60^{\circ}$, and decreases with the increase of the HDD positioning angle after it becomes $60^{\circ}$. The stability is the maximum when the HDD positioning angle is $90^{\circ}$.

When the center of stiffness and the center of mass of the structure differ under the seismic load, torsion is caused by eccentricity. In this study, an analysis model was modeled in which the positions of the core and the plane rotation axis of a 60-story torsional atypical structure with a plane rotation angle of 1 degree per floor were different. The structural behavior of the analysis model was analyzed, and the earthquake response behavior of the structure was analyzed based on the time history analysis results. As a result, as the eccentricity of the structure increased, the eccentricity response was amplified in the high-rise part, and the bending and torsional behavior responses were complex in the low-order vibration mode. As a result of the analysis, the maximum displacement and story drift ratio increased due to the torsional behavior. The maximum story shear force and the story absolute maximum acceleration showed similarities for each analysis model according to the shape of the vibration mode of the analysis model.
