Helicopter-borne aeromagnetic surveys at two different times separated by three years were conducted to better understand the shallow subsurface structure of the Vulcano and Lipari volcanic complex, Aeolian Islands, southern Italy, and also to monitor the volcanic activity of the area. As there was no meaningful difference between the two magnetic datasets to imply an apparent change of the volcanic activity, the datasets were merged to produce an aeromagnetic map with wider coverage than was given by a single dataset. Apparent magnetisation intensity mapping was applied to terrain-corrected magnetic anomalies, and showed local magnetisation highs in and around Fossa Cone, suggesting heterogeneity of the cone. Magnetic modelling was conducted for three of those magnetisation highs. Each model implied the presence of concealed volcanic products overlain by pyroclastic rocks from the Fossa crater. The model for the Fossa crater area suggests a buried trachytic lava flow on the southern edge of the present crater. The magnetic model at Forgia Vecchia suggests that phreatic cones can be interpreted as resulting from a concealed eruptive centre, with thick latitic lavas that fill up Fossa Caldera. However, the distribution of lavas seems to be limited to a smaller area than was expected from drilling results. This can be explained partly by alteration of the lavas by intense hydrothermal activity, as seen at geothermal areas close to Porto Levante. The magnetic model at the north-eastern Fossa Cone implies that thick lavas accumulated as another eruption centre in the early stage of the activity of Fossa. Recent geoelectric surveys showed high-resistivity zones in the areas of the last two magnetic models.

Purpose : In-vivo conductivity reconstruction using transmit field ($B_1{^+}$) information of MRI was proposed. We assessed the accuracy of conductivity reconstruction in the presence of statistical noise in complex $B_1{^+}$ map and provided a parametric model of the conductivity-to-noise ratio value. Materials and Methods: The $B_1{^+}$ distribution was simulated for a cylindrical phantom model. By adding complex Gaussian noise to the simulated $B_1{^+}$ map, quantitative conductivity estimation error was evaluated. The quantitative evaluation process was repeated over several different parameters such as Larmor frequency, object radius and SNR of $B_1{^+}$ map. A parametric model for the conductivity-to-noise ratio was developed according to these various parameters. Results: According to the simulation results, conductivity estimation is more sensitive to statistical noise in $B_1{^+}$ phase than to noise in $B_1{^+}$ magnitude. The conductivity estimate of the object of interest does not depend on the external object surrounding it. The conductivity-to-noise ratio is proportional to the signal-to-noise ratio of the $B_1{^+}$ map, Larmor frequency, the conductivity value itself and the number of averaged pixels. To estimate accurate conductivity value of the targeted tissue, SNR of $B_1{^+}$ map and adequate filtering size have to be taken into account for conductivity reconstruction process. In addition, the simulation result was verified at 3T conventional MRI scanner. Conclusion: Through all these relationships, quantitative conductivity estimation error due to statistical noise in $B_1{^+}$ map is modeled. By using this model, further issues regarding filtering and reconstruction algorithms can be investigated for MREPT.

Turbidity, the measure of the cloudiness of water, is used as an important index for water quality management. The turbidity can vary greatly in small river systems, which affects water quality in national rivers. Therefore, the generation of high-resolution spatial information on turbidity is very important. In this study, a turbidity retrieval model using the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3 and -3A (KOMPSAT-3/3A) images was developed for high-resolution turbidity mapping of Han River system based on eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm. To this end, the top of atmosphere (TOA) spectral reflectance was calculated from a total of 24 KOMPSAT-3/3A images and 150 Landsat-8 images. The Landsat-8 TOA spectral reflectance was cross-calibrated to the KOMPSAT-3/3A bands. The turbidity measured by the National Water Quality Monitoring Network was used as a reference dataset, and as input variables, the TOA spectral reflectance at the locations of in situ turbidity measurement, the spectral indices (the normalized difference vegetation index, normalized difference water index, and normalized difference turbidity index), and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)-derived atmospheric products(the atmospheric optical thickness, water vapor, and ozone) were used. Furthermore, by analyzing the KOMPSAT-3/3A TOA spectral reflectance of different turbidities, a new spectral index, new normalized difference turbidity index (nNDTI), was proposed, and it was added as an input variable to the turbidity retrieval model. The XGBoost model showed excellent performance for the retrieval of turbidity with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 2.70 NTU and a normalized RMSE (NRMSE) of 14.70% compared to in situ turbidity, in which the nNDTI proposed in this study was used as the most important variable. The developed turbidity retrieval model was applied to the KOMPSAT-3/3A images to map high-resolution river turbidity, and it was possible to analyze the spatiotemporal variations of turbidity. Through this study, we could confirm that the KOMPSAT-3/3A images are very useful for retrieving high-resolution and accurate spatial information on the river turbidity.

Lipreading is one of the important parts of speech recognition, and several studies have been conducted to improve the performance of lipreading in lipreading systems for speech recognition. Recent studies have used method to modify the model architecture of lipreading system to improve recognition performance. Unlike previous research that improve recognition performance by modifying model architecture, we aim to improve recognition performance without any change in model architecture. In order to improve the recognition performance without modifying the model architecture, we refer to the cues used in human lipreading and set other regions such as chin and cheeks as regions of interest along with the lip region, which is the existing region of interest of lipreading systems, and compare the recognition rate of each region of interest to propose the highest performing region of interest In addition, assuming that the difference in normalization results caused by the difference in interpolation method during the process of normalizing the size of the region of interest affects the recognition performance, we interpolate the same region of interest using nearest neighbor interpolation, bilinear interpolation, and bicubic interpolation, and compare the recognition rate of each interpolation method to propose the best performing interpolation method. Each region of interest was detected by training an object detection neural network, and dynamic time warping templates were generated by normalizing each region of interest, extracting and combining features, and mapping the dimensionality reduction of the combined features into a low-dimensional space. The recognition rate was evaluated by comparing the distance between the generated dynamic time warping templates and the data mapped to the low-dimensional space. In the comparison of regions of interest, the result of the region of interest containing only the lip region showed an average recognition rate of 97.36%, which is 3.44% higher than the average recognition rate of 93.92% in the previous study, and in the comparison of interpolation methods, the bilinear interpolation method performed 97.36%, which is 14.65% higher than the nearest neighbor interpolation method and 5.55% higher than the bicubic interpolation method. To visualize the characteristics of vertical seawater temperature data, in the ocean having 3D spatial characteristics, 2D thematic maps like horizontal seawater temperature distribution map at each depth layer and 3D volume model using 3D spatial interpolation are used. Although these methods are useful to understand oceanographic phenomena visually, there is a limit to analyze the spatial pattern of vertical temperature distribution or the relationship between vertical temperature characteristics and other oceanic factors (seawater chemistry, marine organism, climate change, etc). Therefore, this study aims to determine the spatial distribution characteristics of vertical temperature profiles in the South Sea of Jeju by quantifying the characteristics of vertical temperature profiles by using an algorithm that can extract the thermocline parameters, such as mixed layer depth, maximum temperature gradient and thermocline thickness. For this purpose spatial autocorrelation index (Moran's I) was calculated including mapping of spatial distribution for three parameters representing the vertical temperature profiles. Also, after grouping study area as four regions by using cluster analysis with three parameters, the characteristics of vertical temperature profiles were defined for each region.

The ability of remote sensing and GIS technique, which used to provide valuable informations in the time and space domain, has been known to be very useful in providing permanent records by mapping and monitoring flooded area. In 2000, floods were at the worst stage of devastation in Tonle Sap Lake, Mekong River Basin, for the second time in records during July and October. In this study, Landsat ETM+ and RADARSAT imagery were used to obtain the basic information on computation of the inundation area and volume using ISODATA classifier and segmentation technique. However, the extracted inundatton area showed only a small fraction than the actually inundated area because of clouds in the imagery and complex ground conditions. To overcome these limitations, the cost-distance method of GIS was used to estimate the inundated area at the peak level by integrating the inundated area from satellite imagery in corporation with digital elevation model (DEM). The estimated inundation area was simply converted with the inundation volume using GIS. The inundation volume was compared with the volume based on hydraulic modeling with MIKE 11. which is the most poppular among the dynamic river modeling system. The method is suitable for estimating inundation volume even when Landsat ETM+ has many clouds in the imagery.

The Korean government has purchased land properties alongside any significant water bodies before setting up the buffers to secure water qualities. Since the annual budgets are limited, however, there has always been the issue of which land parcels ought to be given the priority. Therefore, this study aims to develop efficient mechanism for land acquisition priorities in stream corridors that would ultimately be vegetated for riparian buffer zones. The criteria of land acquisition priority were driven through literary review along with experts' advice. The relative weights of their value and priorities for each criterion were computed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP) method. Major findings of the study are as follows: 1. The decision-making structural model for land acquisition priority focuses mainly on the reduction of non-point source pollutants(NSPs). This fact is highly associated with natural and physical conditions and land use types of surrounding areas. The criteria were classified into two categories-NSPs runoff areas and potential NSPs runoff areas. 2. Land acquisition priority weights derived for NSPs runoff areas and potential NSPs runoff areas were 0.862 and 0.138, respectively. This implicates that much higher priority should be given to the land parcels with NSPs runoff areas. 3. Weights and priorities of sub-criteria suggested from this study include: proximity to the streams(0.460), land cover(0.189), soil permeability(0.117), topographical slope(0.096), proximity to the roads(0.058), land-use types(0.036), visibility to the streams(0.032), and the land price(0.012). This order of importance suggests, as one can expect, that it is better to purchase land parcels that are adjacent to the streams. 4. A standard scoring system including the criteria and weights for land acquisition priority was developed which would likely to allow expedited decision making and easy quantification for priority evaluation due to the utilization of measurable spatial data. Further studies focusing on both point and non-point pollutants and GIS-based spatial analysis and mapping of land acquisition priority are needed.

Rapid visualization of flood area of downstream according to the dam effluent in flood season is very important in dam management works. Overlay zone of river bight should be removed to represent flood area efficiently based on flood stage which was modeled in river channels. This study applied drainage enforcement algorithm to visualize flood area considering river bight by coupling Coordinate Operation System for Flood control In Multi-reservoir (COSFIM) and Flood Wave routing model (FLDWAV). The drainage enforcement algorithm is a kind of interpolation which gives to advantage into hydrological process studies by removing spurious sinks of terrain in automatic drainage algorithm. This study presented mapping technique of flood area layer considering river bight in Namgang-Dam downstream, and developed system based on Arcobject component to execute this process automatically. Automatic extraction system of flood area layer could save time-consuming efficiently in flood inundation visualization work which was propelled based on large volume data. Also, flood area layer by coupling with IKONOS satellite image presented real information in flood disaster works.
A mountain village is defined as that which is autogenously formed over at least 100 years and supported by agricultural yields and forest products and forest area portion of which is over 70% in Guidelines for the Comprehensive Development Planning of Mountain Village. Recently, concerns about management planning of the Green and Eco-Village causes researches related to the Mountain Village's economics, tourism attractiveness, experience programming and investigation of the ecosystem and environment based on the village area. This kind of eco-village project should be supported by ecological evaluation of its spatial structure. But there is rare research of the village spatial structure studied from the ecological viewpoint originally. The purpose of this study is to interpret the spatial structure of Korean mountain village on the landscape ecological paradigm. The paradigm components are patches, corridors, networks, and matrix which explain the land and spatial structure at landscape scale. For this purpose, we selected two case study areas- Sansu and Ajick villages in Gimje city, Jeonlabukdo. We interpreted and evaluated the spatial structure by three steps: (1) to clarify the existing land mosaic pattern by land use mapping (2) to estimate the pore size as development area in matrix (3) to investigate the funnel effect of patch shape. These landscape ecological steps and frameworks could be applied for the proper methodology as fundamentals of eco-village planning and design.
