This study identifies the antecedents of trust in the examination of the effects of the antecedents of trust on trust in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships. A total of 92 apparel manufactures participated in this study. A factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were conducted for the statistical analysis. Five antecedents of trust were classified: flexibility, opportunistic behavior, communication, specific investment, reputation. Two factors of trust were identified: credibility and benevolence. Flexibility, communication, and reputation of a contractor positively influenced the credibility of an apparel manufacture in a contractor. Flexibility, communication, and specific investment of a contractor positively relate to the benevolence of an apparel manufacture in a contractor. However, the opportunistic behavior of a contractor did not relate to either the credibility of an apparel manufacture or the benevolence in a contractor. The results of this study provide empirical evidence of the impact of flexibility, communication, specific investment, reputation on trust in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships, and additional insight for selecting contractors that seek to improve trust in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships.

This research investigates the effect of the antecedents (i.e. specific investment, opportunistic behavior, communications, uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance, shared value, and flexibility) that influence the trust and commitment of domestic apparel manufacturers toward contractors as well as the effect of trust and commitment on firm performance and relationship satisfaction. A total of 128 apparel manufactures participated in this study. Factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and path analysis were conducted for the statistical analysis. Specific investment, communication, shared value, and flexibility had a positive effect on trust; however, opportunistic behavior had a negative effect. Interdependence, shared value, and flexibility had a positive effect on commitment; however, power imbalance and uncertainty had a negative effect. Trust did not exert an effect on commitment in this research; however, trust and commitment had a positive effect on firm performance; in addition, trust and commitment had a positive effect on relationship satisfaction. The findings offer insight on how to better manage apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships to ensure success.
Recently, there has been a growing trend toward private brand. Although much has been written about the determinants of attitude and purchase intention on PB, little is known about the influence of manufacturer and retailer trust on private brand purchase. This research addresses three questions:(1) what impact do manufacturer and retailer trust have on private brand purchase?(2) What is a key mediating variable in the relationship retailer between trust(on retailer/manufacture) and purchase intention?(3) Are the impacts of these factors differ depending on the level of customer knowledge? The findings indicate that retailer trust directly influence on the perceived quality, attitude toward private brand, and purchase intention. Manufacturer trust affects on attitude and purchase intention, however, only when it is through perceived quality. In addition, the relative impact of theses two factors differs to some extent, depending on the level of consumer knowledge. When customer knowledge is relatively high, retailer trust is a very important factor influencing perceived quality, attitude and purchase intention. On the other hand, both retailer trust and manufacturer trust are considered when customer knowledge on private brand is low.

This study examines the effects of trust and commitment on firm performance in the apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships. A total of 92 apparel manufactures participated in the study. Factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were conducted for the statistical analysis. Two factors of trust were identified: credibility and benevolence. Two factors of commitment were identified: affective commitment and calculative commitment. Three factors of firm performance were identified: customer service performance, finance performance, and product performance. The credibility of the apparel manufacture in a contractor had a significant positive effect on the affective commitment of an apparel manufacturer and on the calculative commitment in a contractor. Meanwhile, the benevolence of the apparel manufacture on a contractor had a significant positive effect on the affective commitment of an apparel manufacturer on a contractor. The credibility of the apparel manufacture on a contractor was positively related to customer service performance, finance performance, and product performance. The benevolence of the apparel manufacture on a contractor was positively related to customer service performance and finance performance of an apparel manufacture. The affective commitment of the apparel manufacture in a contractor was positively related to service performance. The calculative commitment of the apparel manufacture on a contractor was positively related to finance performance and to the product performance of an apparel manufacture. The results of this study provides practical guidelines toward exchange partners of apparel manufacturers as to how to facilitate from performance in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships.

While trust and commitment, essential ingredients of the relationship quality variables, are core mediating variables for the purpose of maintaining the long-term relationship, in the context of the internal political economy of company and the relational performance of its members, there have been limited studies which explore as to how each of the dimensions have affect differently. The basic purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between an automobile manufacturer and its agencies. The main purpose of this study is to examine how each different dimension of trust and commitment on the automobile manufacturer have different mediating effects in the context of internal political economy variables and relational performance perceived by its agents. Another purpose is to investigate the mechanism by which the relational performance of the agencies is improved. An empirical study surveying 115 sales office managers at a leading automobile manufacturer in Korea was conducted. An analysis of the collected data indicates that while internal political economy variables have a positive influence on the agencies' relational performance through the mediating role of trust and commitment, agencies' benevolence on its headquarter has a different influence on the dimensions of commitment. Currently, an automobile manufacturer is advised to implement the relational management philosophy in dealing with its agencies with an hope of innovative orientation for customers. In this sense, this study is a big stride in providing ample implications for the automobile manufacturer in establishing trust and commitment, which are the prerequisite conditions in developing and maintaining a successful long-term relationship with its agencies, and in improving the agency's relational performance.
Purpose: This study identifies the critical elements of relationship management required to be studied in distribution sciences to create a relational bond of watch manufacturers with their retailers in India. The offline watch retail market is undergoing a rapid transformation due to technology intervention in the product portfolio and the advent of online retailing. The study identifies the interrelationships amongst the constructs of interdependence, trust, affective commitment, and information exchange to form long-lasting relational bonds in the watch industry. Research design, data and methodology: We used a path analysis to investigate the relationship between interdependence, trust, affective commitment, and information exchange. Data has been collected from 143 watch retailers using judgmental sampling method. Results: The data analysis suggested the establishment of measurement and structural model. The absolute and relative goodness of fit models in the causal analysis are 0.628 and 0.959 suggesting a sufficient fit index. Based on the analysis of direct and indirect effects, the results indicate that trust fully mediates the effect of interdependence and information exchange of retailers with the manufacturer. Conclusions: Trust plays an important role in driving commitment and information exchange between watch manufacturers and retailers. Interdependence in the manufacturer-channel relationships would lead to affective commitment only when trust exists in the relationship. [AMAWATE, Vibhas.] in Web of Science and Scopus).
The purpose of this study is to empirically examine the transference of trust process, an important factor to consumer's purchase decision-making. Even though several researchers have discussed the trust transference process, there is no research related to this concept. Specifically we have focused on the transference of trust from the retailer to low involvement private label (PL) products. PL products were chosen as transference of trust occurs under ambiguity due to lack of information about the product and their manufacturer. PL products provide relatively less information than national brand (NB) products. In addition, retailers have been rapidly expanding their PL product categories. To identify the theoretical and empirical limitations of prior studies, we discuss several theories explaining the transference of trust: 'Balance theory' and 'availability heuristic' in transference of cognitive trust; 'affective transference' and 'affect as information' in transference of affective trust. An empirical test was performed. A self completion questionnaire was developed and administered to a convenience sample of PL users. 206 usable questionnaire were received. The results show that the transference of trust plays a mediating role linking the retailer to the manufacturer and to the product. Although our model, which included the transference process of trust as a mediating effect, did not improve the competitive model, the coefficients of the respective paths were found to be better. This study confirms the transference of cognitive trust from the retailer to both the manufacturer and the product, but not for affective trust. We offer the explanation that PL products may tend to have affective trust resulting from brand familiarity but not to their PL manufacturers.
This study examined regarding the moderating effect of length of relationship in the relationship among the antecedent variables (i.e., specific investment, opportunistic behavior, communication, uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance, shared value, and flexibility) of trust and commitment, trust and commitment and firm performance and relationship satisfaction. A total of 128 apparel manufacturers participated in this study. Flexibility exerted the most positive effect on trust in short-term relationship, followed by specific investment. And opportunistic behavior was found to exert negative effect on trust. Commitment was found to be most negatively affected by power imbalance, followed by interdependence. Trust was shown to be significantly affected by communication, shared value and flexibility in short-term relationship. In the case of long-term relationship, commitment was shown to be significantly affected by uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance and flexibility. Firm performance was positively affected by both trust and commitment. As for the effect of trust and commitment on relationship satisfaction, relationship satisfaction was also affected by both trust and commitment. In case the length of relationship, firm performance was affected by both trust and commitment. As for the effect of trust and commitment on relationship satisfaction, relationship satisfaction was also affected by both trust and commitment. The result of this research provides valuable data for making a concrete suggestion regarding the strategy for improving trust and commitment for the sake of the desirable relationship between apparel manufacturers and contractors.
This study examines the effects of dependence and conflict on organizational performances in partnership, qualitatively (trust) and quantitatively (sales) under four control variables (period of business, number of goods, competition density, and number of employees). Also, this study presents termination cost and alternative attractiveness as the antecedents of dependence, goal incongruity and unfairness as the antecedents of conflict. As the results of analysis with survey data from 360 distributors in manufacturer-distributor partnership, 7 hypotheses are supported and 2 hypotheses are rejected. The results of structural equation modeling (SEM) verify that termination cost increases dependence, that alternative attractiveness reduces dependence, that goal incongruity and unfairness increase conflict, that dependence reduces conflict, that dependence increases trust, and that conflict reduces trust. However, unexpectedly, dependence reduces sales, and conflict has no impact on sales. The results of this study provide insightful implications theoretically and managerially to scholars and practitioners interested in partnership.
This study investigates what effects both customer trust in the headquarters and perceived customer justice(interactional, procedural and distributive) in agencies have on customer loyalty to the agency via customer trust and satisfaction with the agency. The data for analysis are obtained from 266 customers who are experienced in dealing with agencies. The results show the following : first, customer perceived justice has a significant positive influence on customer trust and satisfaction with the agencies. Second, customer trust in the headquarter has a significant positive influence on customer trust with the agencies. Third, customer satisfaction with the agencies has a significant positive influence on customer trust in the particular agency Fourth, both customer trust in and satisfaction with the agencies are found to have significant positive impacts on customer loyalty to the agencies. Finally, we presented suggestions for enhancing customer loyalty to the agencies.
