  • This paper describes the kinematics, dynamics and control of a 6-DOF shaking table with a bell crank structure, which converts the direction of reciprocating movements. In this shaking table, the bell crank mechanism is used to reduce the amount of space needed to install the shaking table and create horizontal displacement of the platform. In kinematics, joint design is performed using $Gr{\ddot{u}}bler's$ formula. The inverse kinematics of the shaking table is discussed. The derivation of the Jacobian matrix is presented to evaluate singularity conditions. Considering the maximum stroke of the hydraulic actuator, collision between links and singularity, workspace is computed. In dynamics, computations are based on the Newton-Euler formulation. To derive parallel algorithms, each of the contact forces is decomposed into one acting in the direction of the leg and the other acting in the plane orthogonal to the direction of the leg. Applying the Newton-Euler approach, the solution of inverse dynamics is almost completely parallel. Only one of the steps-the application of the Newton-Euler equations to the platform-must be performed on one single processor. Finally, the efficient control scheme is proposed for the tracking control of the motion platform.

  • In this paper a new two-arm cooperative assembly(or insertion) algorithm is proposed. As a force-guided control method for the cooperative assembly the adaptive accommodation controller is adopted since it does not require any complicated contact state analysis nor depends of the geometrical complexity of the assembly parts. Also the RMRC(resolved motion rate control) method using a relative jacobian is used to solve inverse kinematics for two manipulators. By using the relative jacobian the two cooperative redundant manipulators can be formed as a new single redundant manipulator. Two arms can perform a variety of insertion tasks by using a relative motion between their end effectors. A force/torque sensing model using an approximated penetration depth calculation a, is developed and used to compute a contact force/torque in the graphic assembly simulation . By using the adaptive accommodation controller and the force/torque sensing model both planar and a spatial cooperative assembly tasks have been successfully executed in the graphic simulation. Finally through a cooperative assembly task experiment using a humanoid robot CENTAUR which inserts a spatially bent pin into a hole its feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithm verified.

  • Visual servoing (VS) based on the Kalman filter (KF) algorithm, as in the case of KF-based image-based visual servoing (IBVS) systems, suffers from three problems in uncalibrated environments: the perturbation noises of the robot system, error of noise statistics, and slow convergence. To solve these three problems, we use an IBVS based on KF, African vultures optimization algorithm enhanced extreme learning machine (AVOA-ELM), and fuzzy logic (FL) in this paper. Firstly, KF online estimation of the Jacobian matrix. We propose an AVOA-ELM error compensation model to compensate for the sub-optimal estimation of the KF to solve the problems of disturbance noises and noise statistics error. Next, an FL controller is designed for gain adaptation. This approach addresses the problem of the slow convergence of the IBVS system with the KF. Then, we propose a visual servoing scheme combining FL and KF-AVOA-ELM (FL-KF-AVOA-ELM). Finally, we verify the algorithm on the 6-DOF robotic manipulator PUMA 560. Compared with the existing methods, our algorithm can solve the three problems mentioned above without camera parameters, robot kinematics model, and target depth information. We also compared the proposed method with other KF-based IBVS methods under different disturbance noise environments. And the proposed method achieves the best results under the three evaluation metrics.

  • The manipulability analysis of the parallel-type rolling mill proposed in Hong et al. [1] is re-visited. The parallel rolling mill uses two Stewart platforms in opposite direction for the generation of 6 degree-of-freedom motions of each roll. The objective of this new parallel rolling mill is to permit an integrated control of the strip thickness, strip shape, pair crossing angle, uniform wear of rolls, and tension of the strip. New forward/inverse kinematics problems, in contrast with [1], are formulated. The forward kinematics problem is defined as the problem of finding the roll-gap and the pair-crossing angle of two work rolls for given lengths of twelve legs. On the other hand, the inverse kinematics problem is defined as the problem of finding the lengths of twelve legs when the roll-gap, the pair-crossing angle, and the position and orientation of one work roll are given. The method of manipulability analysis used in this paper follows the spirit of [1]. But, because the rolling force and moment exerted from both upper and lower rolls have been included in the manipulability analysis, more accurate results than the use of a single platform can be achieved. Two. kinematic parameters, the radius of the base and the angle between two neighboring joints, are optimally designed by maximizing the global manipulability measure in the entire workspace.

  • The equipment of industrial robot in manufacturing and assembly lines has rapidly increased. In order to achieve high productivity and flexibility, it becomes very important to develop the visual feedback control system with Off-Line Programming System(OLPS ). We can save much efforts and time in adjusting robots to newly defined workcells by using Off-Line Programming System. A proposed visual calibration scheme is based on position-based visual feedback. The visual calibration system is composed of a personal computer, an image processing board, a video monitor, and one camera. The calibration program firstly generates predicted images of objects in an assumed end-effector position. The process to generate predicted images consists of projection to screen-coordinates, visible range test, and construction of simple silhouette figures. Then, camera images acquired are compared with predicted ones for updating position and orientation data. Computation of error is very simple because the scheme is based on perspective projection, which can be also expanded to experimental results. Computation time can be extremely reduced because the proposed method does not require the precise calculation of tree-dimensional object data and image Jacobian.

  • Kinematic calibration enhances absolute accuracy by compensating for the fabrication tolerances and installation errors. Effectiveness of calibration procedures depends greatly on the measurements performed. This paper investigates identifiable parameters and optimum postures for four different calibration procedures - measuring postures completely with inverse kinematic residuals, measuring postures completely with forward kinematics residuals, measuring only the three position components, and restraining the mobility of the end-effector using a constraint link. The study is performed for a six degree-of-freedom fully parallel HexaSlide type parallel manipulator, HSM. Results verify that all parameters are identifiable with complete posture measurements. For the case of position measurements, one and for the case of constraint link, three parameters were found non-identifiable. Selecting postures for measurement is also an important issue for efficient calibration procedure. Typically, the condition number of the identification Jacobian is minimized to find optimum postures. Optimal postures showed the same trend of orienting themselves on the boundaries of the search space.

  • A robotic sapatial augmented reality (RSAR) system, which combines robotic components with projector-based AR technique, is unique in its ability to expand the user interaction area by dynamically changing the position and orientation of a projector-camera unit (PCU). For a moving PCU mounted on a conventional robotic device, we can compute its extrinsic parameters using a robot kinematics method assuming a link and joint geometry is available. In a RSAR system based on user-created robot (UCR), however, it is difficult to calibrate or measure the geometric configuration, which limits to apply a conventional kinematics method. In this paper, we propose a data-driven kinematics control method for a UCR-based RSAR system. The proposed method utilized a pre-sampled data set of camera calibration acquired at sufficient instances of kinematics configurations in fixed joint domains. Then, the sampled set is compactly represented as a set of B-spline surfaces. The proposed method have merits in two folds. First, it does not require any kinematics model such as a link length or joint orientation. Secondly, the computation is simple since it just evaluates a several polynomials rather than relying on Jacobian computation. We describe the proposed method and demonstrates the results for an experimental RSAR system with a PCU on a simple pan-tilt arm.
