  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the treatment effects on anterior crossbite patients using chin cap and labiolingual arch appliance. In the present study, I statistically evaluated measurement values on a cephalogram before and after treatment form twenty anterior crossbite cases. The results were as follows: 1. In the craniofacial patterns, cranial base increased after treatment. 2. In the maxillo-mandibular relationship, ANB and Facial convexity significantly increased. 3. In the denture patterns, occlusal plane, Ul to FH and Overjet significantly increased. On the contrary overbite decreased significantly. Lower incisors inclined lingually. 4. In the soft tissue profile changes, lower lip protrusion was signifacantly improved.

  • In order to define what the average Class I malocclusion looks like, 72 Class I malocclusions were compared with corresponding measurements from 90 cases of normal occlusion sample. This sample was obtained from the Department of Orthodontics, Infirmary of Seoul National University. 1. SNA, Fac(NP) to SN measurements were significantly different from the normal occlusions and smaller than the normal occlusion means. 2. 'Y' axis to SN, Mandibular plane to SN, $\underline{1}$ to Occlusal plane, $\bar{1}$ to NB(linear) measurements were significantly different from the normal occlusions and larger than the normal occlusions. 3. ANB, Occlusal plane to SN, AB to Occlusal plane, $\underline{1}$ to SN, $\bar{1}$ to SN, $\bar{1}$ to Occlusal plane measurements showed no significant difference between the means.

  • Clinicians generally agree that Class III malocclusion is one of the most difficult to treat. When the Class III malocclusion is characterized by maxillary retrusion in growing patients, the use of a face mask may be the treatment of choice. Although face mask can achieve excellent orthopedic effects. It demands special patient compliance because it is worn extraorally and is not as esthetic or comfortable as intraoral appliance. This report presents the clinical cases of mandibular protrusion correction in growing patients, who were treated by TTBA(Tandem Traction Bow Appliance) that's a intraoral appliance.

  • For the 2 years of farming, at the indoor circulating aquaculture system, four kinds of skeletal deformities were found among 60 Far Eastern catfish, Silurus asotus. Deformities saw jawbone's luxation, abnormality of upper lip and malocclusion. Spinal deformity was most fatal deformities with low weight and small length. Jawbone's luxation had 1 maxilla and 2 mandibles. Abnormality of upper lip had just lip was back over. Malocclusion's left maxilla and right maxilla were not balanced. This experiment was any deformities in this species through the deformity can grasp how it affects.

  • The role of the Orthodontist in cleft lip and cleft palate therapy is primarily ill correction of malocclusion which is required by practically every child who has these defects. He can contribute to the assessment of dento-facial growth and development. We may gain the possible limited correction of delayed malocclusion due to cleft lip and palate. The authors have attempted delayed orthodontic treatment of a cleft lip and palate of 12.9 years old girl, who had a cleft lip and palate of surgical closure at 2,3 and 4 years old.

  • The author compared and analysed the roentgenocephalograms of ninety Korean children with the normal occlusion, seventy-two patients with class I malocclusion and one hundred nineteen patient with class II malocclusion, The Results are as followings: Significant difference in all measurnments. 1. All measurments noticed significant differenve in ANOVA. 2. 'Wits' appraisal noticed most significant difference in Scheffe F-test.

  • A girl aged 16 years and I month, had a severe Angle's class III malocclusion, characterized by a retarded and constricted maxilla, anterior and posterior crossbite. This patient underwent extraction of two lower Ist premolar. After extraction, author placed multibanded system in lower dental arch to change the long axis of anterior teeth and delivered removable appliance with Coffin spring in the upper dental arch to expand dental arch. After 13 months, anterior & posterior crossbite was corrected and this patient's profile was improved. Superimposition of pretreatment and posttreatment cephalograms upon the SN line registered at S showed backward downward rotation of the mandible and retrusion of lower lip.

  • Maxillary protraction is the treatment of choice for growing patients with skeletal Class 3 malocclusion due to midfacial retrusion. Its treatment goal is to achieve skeletal movement of maxilla without dentoalveolar movement. To avoid dentoalveolar movement, it is necessary to enhance anchorage of maxillary dentition or to reduce resistance of maxilla protraction. The purpose of this report is to introduce two cases applying adjunctive surgical approach as intentional ankylosis and distraction osteogenesis respectively.

  • A 10 year & 11 month old girl patient who had Angle's Class III malocclusion were treated by chin cap and fixed appliances. The treatment results obtained were as to]lows: 1. The anterior crossbite was corrected. 2. The functional overbite & overjet were established. 3. The favorable molar relationships were achieved. 4. The forward growth of the mandible was restrained. 5. The axial inclination of the upper & lower incisors were changed and the upper dental arch length was increased. 6. The facial profile was improved resulting from the good upper & lower jaw relations. 7. There was no harmful changes on the teeth S the periodontal tissues after treatment. 8. The good occlusal stability was showed after 1 year of retention.

  • The first patient of this case was 13 year and 8 month old girl who had the Angle's class I malocclusion with uneruption of upper left central incisor and left canine. The second patient was 12 year old boy who had the Angle's class I malocclusion with uneruption of right central incisor. After surgical exposure of impacted teeth of those patients and bonding of attachment on exposed crown, those teeth were orthodontically pulled with removable appliances. The results were obtained as follow. 1. The functionally proper occlusion was established by guidance of the impacted teeth into the normal position in the arch. 2. Establishment of esthetic and balanced arch form was achieved. 3. The possibility of restorative prosthetic treatment induced by extraction of impacted teeth was eliminated. 4. The psychologic relief of pubertal patient who was very sensitive to facial esthetics was gained.
