  • The introduction of electricity industry provides generators incentives to recover the related cost through the market. Hence, the generator should sell his/her electricity at high market-clearing price with optimal operation of his/her power plant. The maintenance of power plant is the most critical factor in affecting generators' decision-making. This paper analyzes technique for establishing maintenance schedule reflecting recovery cost and considers differences in monthly load pattern in minimizing LOLP.

  • In competitive electricity markets, the System Operator (SO) coordinates the overall maintenance schedules when the collective maintenance schedule reported to 50 by Gencos not satisfy the specified operating criteria, such as system reliability or supply adequacy. This paper presented a method that divides generator maintenance scheduling of the 50 into a master-problem and a sub-problem. Master-problem is schedule coordination and sub-problem is DC-optimal power flow. If sub-problem is infeasible, we use the algorithm of modifying operating criteria of master-problem. And, the 50 should use the open information only, because the information such as cost function of a generator and bidding Price is highly crucial for the strategies of profit maximization.

  • Given a schedule of train to be routed by a Railway Stock, Railway Stock Routing Problem determine a sequence of train while satisfying turnaround time and maintenance restrictions. The objective is to minimize the Railway Stock during a week and each day simultaneously. And we prove that Railway Stock Routing Problem with maintenance restrictions is NP-hard. In this paper, we present two stage approaches that solve the Railway Stock Routing Problem in a reasonable time. In first stage we relax maintenance restrictions and formulate as a Min-cost-flow problem. Then, in the second stage, we attempt to satisfy maintenance restrictions using ours heuristic algorithm. We show the computational result of applying to an actual train schedule data.

  • CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) has increasingly drawn attention in industry because of its many benefits. CBM Problem Is characterized as a state-dependent scheduling model that demands simultaneous maintenance actions, each for an attribute that influences on machine condition. This problem is very hard to solve within conventional Markov decision process framework. In this paper, we present an intelligent machine maintenance scheduler, for which a new incremental decision tree learning method as evolutionary system identification model and shortest path problem as schedule generation model are developed. Although our approach does not guarantee an optimal scheduling policy in mathematical viewpoint, we verified through simulation based experiment that the intelligent scheduler is capable of providing good scheduling policy that can be used in practice.

  • It is important to prevent roll failure in hot rolling process for reducing maintenance cost and production loss. The relationship between rolling pass schedule and the work roll wear profile will be presented. The roll wear pattern is related with roll catastrophic failure. The irregular and deep roll wear pattern should be removed by On-line Roll Grinder(ORG) for roll failure prevention. In this study, a computer roll wear prediction model under real process working condition is developed and evaluated with hot rolling pass schedule. The method of building wear calculation functions for center portion abrasion and marginal abrasion respectively was used to develop a work roll wear prediction mathematical model. The three type rolling schedule are evaluated by wear prediction model. The optimum roll grinding methods is suggested for schedule tree rolling technique.

  • In this paper, the optimal maintenance scheduling for turbine with considering maintenance replacement rate was proposed in order to reduce the maintenance cost during the whole period of operation, meanwhile keeping current reliability of turbine. The proposed method is only based on a few limited available data with various factors relating to maintenance replacement and repair of turbine. The proposed method will be adopted by Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. from April in 2002 to determine the maintenance schedule of thermal power plants.

  • In TWBP markets, ISO determines the maintenance schedule based on Gencos' and Transcos' offers under reasonable criterion. This paper presents ISO's alternative procedure to coordinate maintenance schedules submitted by Gencos and Transcos. ISO's coordination procedure is formulated as an optimization problem that minimizes expected losses in Gencos' revenue subject to system reserve requirement.

  • In competitive electricity markets, each GenCo establishes generator maintenance schedule and submits to ISO those. Then, ISO reviews and arranges maintenance schedule of each GenCo to meet the standard for reliability. This paper presents the new optimization model which can apply to competitive electricity markets. The object of this model is to minimize schedules variation of each GenCo and to satisfy system reliability.

  • This paper proposes a preventive maintenance scheduling system which is a user-friendly decision-making support system. The objective of the development of the package is to supply KEPCO's working experts with a useful tool for gaining a practical maintenance schedule. This program based on the MS Windows is made up of two main modules. The first is an interactive decision-making support module(IDSM). The main objective of this module is to provide various useful text and graphic information to users, and enable practicing engineers with sensitivity analysis of a targeting maintenance schedule. The second is a mathematical optimization module(MOM). In this module, the objective function of levelizing net reserve ratio with daily time-increment is optimized using the relaxation method.

  • The technology of preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance is widely applied to ships in order to maintain the good voyageable condition. One of the most important fields of marine engineering is to seek the maximum availability and to solve the stochastic maintenance problem such that the cost for corrective maintenance is minimized. Accordingly, for the purpose of making the most suitable maintenance schedule which minimizes the expected cost function, this paper suggests the method to grasp the failure characteristics by the ship's maintenance data that are collected from the past. And, suggests the method to estimate the optimal maintenance interval by using the dynamic programming and the cumulative hazard rate function attained from the maintenance data.
