  • CoSm thin films with a Cr underlayer have received continuous attention as a potential material for a high density longitudinal magnetic recording media. In this study the Ax gas sputtering pressure effects on the magnetic properties of CoSm thin films, which were fabricated by using a dc magnetron sputtering machine, were investigated. The magnetic switching volume is especially important parameter to understand the thermal stability of the written information, magnetization reversal process and media noise. Therefore, in this paper the effects of sputtering pressure on the magnetic switching volume of CoSm thin films grown on Cr underlayer with the same sputtering conditions was studied. As the Ar sputtering pressure during sputtering of the CoSm magnetic layer increases from 5 to 30 mTorr, the measured switching volumes decreased from 9.0 to 5.2$\times$10$^{-18}$ cm$^3$. The calculated diameter of switching unit from V* was less than 22 nm, which satisfies the Sharrock's requirement on the thermal stability of the high density longitudinal magnetic recording media.

  • The magnetic switching volume is known as an important parameter to understand the magnetization reversal process, thermal stability of the written information and media noise. This parameter is influenced significantly by the microstructure of the magnetic layer as well as underlayer. Therefore, we fabricated CoSm/Cr thin films with varying magnetic layer thickness under constant sputtering by using a dc magnetic sputtering machine. The magnetic layer thickness effect on the magnetic switching volume have been studied by the means of magnetic viscosity and dc demagnetization remanence curve mesurements. From these measurements, we found that the switching volumes increased with increasing the magnetic layer thickness, whereas the coercivity showed different behavior. These may be a result of the increased intergranular coupling and the larger volume fraction of the magnetic layer.

  • Due to the characteristics of the vehicle structure, the magnetic levitation train has a confined bottom space thus a study on miniaturization and weight reduction of auxiliary power unit is essential. This auxiliary power unit is an essential device used for illumination, air conditioning, heating and air brake equipment excluding the motor. The previous auxiliary power unit for magnetic levitation train has used the hard switching having a high switching frequency with heavy loss in order to reduce the size of filter reactor and transformer but the reduction in volume was not significant. In this paper, by reducing the loss, reducing the size of the cooling unit and by increasing the switching frequency using the soft switching of resonant converter, it has miniaturized and reduced the weight of filter reactor and transformer which occupy significant space in the auxiliary power unit. This study has verified the performance of 50KVA grade prototype through simulated interpretation and analysis, and compared the size and weight of auxiliary power unit of the previous magnetic levitation train.

  • The thickness dependence of the magnetic switching volumes in electrodeposited CoPt films was investigated from the magnetization reversal and the magnetic interaction behavior. As the sample thickness is increased, the field difference between the wall pinning field ($H_{DW}$) and the nucleation field ($H_N$) as well as the absolute value of ${\Delta}$area are increased. Therefore, the decrement tendency of the switching diameter with increasing sample thickness can be well explained by the domain wall motion controlled by the domain wall pinning and the strength of dipolar interaction.

  • The transcranial magnetic stimulation recharges the energy storing condenser, and sends the stored energy in the condenser to the pulse shaping circuit, which then delivers it to the stimulating coil. The previous types of transcranial magnetic stimulation required a booster transformer, secondary rectifier for high voltages and a condenser for smooth type. The energy storing condenser is recharged by switching the high-voltage direct current power. Loss occurs due to the resistance in the recharging circuit, and the single-pulse output energy in the transcranial magnetic stimulation can be changed because the recharging voltage cannot be adjusted. In this study a booster transformer, which decreases the volume and weight, was not used. Instead, a current resonance inverter was applied to cut down the switching loss. A transcranial magnetic stimulation, which can simultaneously alter the recharging voltage and pulse repeats, was used to examine the output characteristics.

  • This paper proposes a three-level LLC resonant converter using integrated magnetics (IM). Given that the switch voltage stress of the proposed converter is guaranteed to be half of the input voltage, the switching losses can be greatly reduced, thereby benefitting the high-frequency operation. To reduce the volume of reactive components such as transformers, high-frequency driving and planar core are applied. However, two resonant inductors and one transformer are required because of the three-level structure and the limited leakage inductance of the planar transformer for the resonant operation. Therefore, the effect of volume reduction is not very large. In order to solve these drawbacks, this paper proposes a new IM that integrates all magnetic elements used in the proposed three-level resonant converter by using the magnetizing inductor as a resonant inductor. The experimental results are presented by conducting a theoretical analysis of a prototype with 350 W to 800 kHz.

  • An integrated magnetic (IM) transformer is proposed for a phase shifted full bridge (PSFB) converter with zero voltage switching (ZVS). In a proposed IM transformer, the transformer is located on the center leg of E-core and the output inductor is wound on two outer legs with air gap. The proposed IM transformer is analyzed by using the magnetic capacitor model. For reducing the core size, EE core is redesigned. The proposed IM transformer is experimentally verified on a 1.2 kW prototype converter. The converter efficiency with the proposed IM transformer is about 93 % at full load and its volume size can be reduced. It can be expected that the power density can be largely increased with the proposed IM transformer.

  • This research proposes a new type of flyback converter topology based on magnetic circuit sharing. The proposed flyback topology uses a transformer involving shared magnetic flux, and its characteristic is magnetic flux cancelation by cross magnetic flux in the magnetic flux-sharing part of the core. The new topology aims to reduce the volume of transformer by reducing the cross section of the core. Compared to conventional converters using only 1 transformer, its circuit configuration involving the serial input and parallel output of 2 flyback coils allowed increased converter insulation strength. In addition, the adoption of interleaved switching method achieved the improvement of output voltage ripple, while magnetic circuit sharing reduced by 50% the cross section of core where magnetic circuit was shared.

  • High-gain DC/DC converters have become one of the key technologies for the grid-connected operation of new energy power generation, and its research provides a significant impetus for the rapid development of new energy power generation. Inspired by the transformer effect and the ripple-suppressed ability of a coupled inductor, a double-coupled inductor high gain DC/DC converter with a ripple absorption circuit is proposed in this paper. By integrating the diode-capacitor voltage multiplying unit into the quadratic Boost converter and assembling the independent inductor into the magnetic core of structure coupled inductors, the adjustable range of the voltage gain can be effectively extended and the limit on duty ratio can be avoided. In addition, the volume of the magnetic element can be reduced. Very small ripples of input current can be obtained by the ripple absorption circuit, which is composed of an auxiliary inductor and a capacitor. The leakage inductance loss can be recovered to the load in a switching period, and the switching-off voltage spikes caused by leakage inductance can be suppressed by absorption in the diode-capacitor voltage multiplying unit. On the basis of the theoretical analysis, the feasibility of the proposed converter is verified by test results obtained by simulations and an experimental prototype.

  • The existing contactless inductive coupler has many problems because of its large volume and high level of exciting current, so a new contactless inductive coupler is being required under the circumstances and the load requirement. For a contactless inductive coupler in the manufacturing equipment of semiconductor, the coupler's efficiency is low because of its small magnetic inductance and large leakage inductance. Moreover, the high frequency switching to increase energy density per unit volume increases the iron loss and the eddy current loss, so it must be considered deeply when selecting core materials. Therefore, this paper presents core materials and shape to improve the performance of the contactless inductive coupler according to the coil positions.
