A general procedure for a motion capture and mimic system has been delineated. Utilizing sensors operated in the magnetic fields, complicated and optimized movements are easily digitized to analyze and repreduce. The system consists of a motion capture module, a motion visualization module, a motion plan module, a motion mimic module, and a GUI module. Design concepts of the system are modular, open, and user friendly to ensure the overall system performance. Custom-built and/or off-the-shelf modules are ease- ly integrated into the system. With modifications, this procedure can be applied for complicated motion controls. This procedure is implemented on tracking a head and balancing a pole. A neural controller based on this control scheme dtilizing human motions can easily evolve from a small amount of learning data.

Optical fibers are going to be used for telecommunication, image fibers, sensors under irradiation in nuclear power plants and various irradiation facilities. Especially, Temperature detection sensors using Raman light scattering, temperature or strain sensors using fiber gratings, magnet-optical sensors using photo-magnetic effect, are already commercialized. However, When fibers are exposed to ionizing radiation, color centers are formed in fibers which reduces their light transmission, and it is limited in applying under radiation environments. In this study, $Co^{60}$ gamma-ray induced optical attenuation on Ge-doped single mode(SM) fiber has been measured. Gamma-ray is irradiated for 4hours at the dose rate of 0.5kGy/hr, 2kGy/hr, 8kGy/hr. Consequently, gamma-ray induced loss based on radiation effects in Ge-doped SM fiber occur precisely. Furthermore, dose rate effect that the higher dose rate in the same total dose, the more increase loss of optical fiber and annealing effect that the higher the loss after irradiation, the more increase the recovery rate of the loss are observed in the fiber. This results plan to make use of bases in the study of the radiation-hardened optical fiber.

To reduce the chattering errors of reed switch sensors in the automatic remote measurement of water meter a reed switch sensor was analyzed and improved. The operation of reed switch sensors can be described as a mechanical contact switch by approximation of permanent magnet piece to generate an electrical pulse. The reed switch sensors are used mostly in measurement application to detect the rotational or translational displacement. To apply for water flow measurement devices, the reed switch sensors should keep high reliability. They are applied for the electronic digital type of water flow meters. The reed switch sensor is just mounted simply on the conventional mechanical type flow meter. A small magnet is attached on a pointer of the water meter counter rotor. Inside the reed sensor two steel leaf springs make mechanical contact and apart repeatedly as rotation of flow meter counter. The counting electrical contact pulses can be converted as the water flow amount. The MCU sends the digital flow rate data to the server using the wireless communication network. But the digital data is occurred difference or won by chattering noise. The reed switch sensor contains chattering error by it self at the force equivalent position. The vibrations such as passing vehicle near to the switch sensor installed location causes chattering. In order to reduce chattering error, most system uses just software methods, for example using filter algorithm and also statistical calibration methods. The chattering errors were reduced by changing leaf spring structure using mechanical characteristics.

A position control system composed of the PMLSM(Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor), unlike conventional linear permanent magnet synchronous motor is fixed to the permanent magnet moving coil rails (permanent magnet = stator, coil = mover), the coil is fixed, moving the permanent magnet, we propose a position control system (permanent magnet = mover, coil = stator) structure. Position is measured not using conventional encoder or resolver but by adopting vector control method using 2 hall sensors generating rectangular signal. This method estimate the velocity and position of mover by using the quadruple of two hall sensor signal instead of encoder signal. Vector control of PMLSM using 2 hall sensor generating rectangular wave is proved to control the system stable and efficiently through simulation. Also hardware experiment reveals that the position control performance is measured within the range of $30{\sim}50{\mu}m$ in the accuracy of $10{\sim}20{\mu}m$, which is improved twice to the conventional method. The proposed method exhibits its economical efficiency and practical usefulness. The vector control technique using two hall sensors can be installed in narrow place, accordingly it can be implemented on the system where the conventional encoder or resolver cannot operate.
In this study, we have constructed a measuring system to investigate tensile stress of tendons, which is employed in bridges, by means of the magnetic non-destructive testing (NDT) method. For the twisted 7-strands tendon, we have used Wiedemann effect. An ac current was applied to the tendon and voltage induced from Search Coil on Tendon (SCT) under applying tensile stress was measured. The measuring system consists of tensile stress applying apparatus up to 2 GPa, and ac current supply to apply current to the tendon directly to magnetize the tendon. We have invested two kinds of tendon which were produced by different companies for testing with constructed measuring system. Voltage induced from SCT was decreased up to 1.5 GPa linearly and two kinds of tendon which were produced by different companies shows similar trends. Thus, Wiedemann effect was also applicable to measure tensile stress of tendon by means of magnetic NDT.

Most of utility cable tunnels are constructed utilizing shield TBM as part of the underground transmission line project. The TBM chamber is the only space inside the tunnel that encounters rock and soil, and is the place with the highest frequency of accident exposure, such as collapse and collision accidents. Since there is currently no way to measure the disc cutter wear from outside the chamber, frequent inspection by workers is essential. Accordingly, in this study, in order to prevent safety accidents inside the TBM chamber and expect the effect of shortening the construction period by reducing the number of chamber openings, the concept of disk cutter wear measurement technology was established and a prototype was produced. By considering prior technology and determining that magnetic sensors are most suitable for the excavation environment, wear measurement sensor package were developed integrating magnetic sensors, wireless communication modules, power supply, external casing, and monitoring systems. To verify the performance of the prototype in an actual excavation environment, a full-scale tunnelling test was performed using a 3.6 m EPB shield TBM. Based on the full-scale tests, five prototypes were operated normally among eight prototypes. It was analyzed that sensor measurement, wireless communication, and durability performance were secured within a maximum thrust of 3,000 kN and a rotation speed of 1.5 RPM.
GEO-KOMPSAT-2 (GK2) program, which develops two advanced geostationary satellites simultaneously after the successful COMS mission (2010~present), is on going. An improved next generation meteorological payload and space weather sensors will be equipped on the GK2A. The space weather sensor will be the Korea's first geostationary space environment monitoring payload. Main objectives of the project are its applications into space weather forecasting and pre-warning of hazardous space weather by monitoring physical phenomena such as distribution of high energetic particles, Earth's magnetic fields and charging currents on the spacecraft at a geostationary orbit using the three space weather sensors(energetic particle detector, magnetometer and charging monitor). The summary of the GK2A space weather sensor development and its system and interface designs were described in the paper.

In this paper, the impact damage behavior of USN-150B carbon/epoxy composite laminates subjected to high velocity impact was studied experimentally and numerically. Square composite laminates stacked with $[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$ quasi-symmetric and $[0/90]_{ns}$ cross-ply stacking sequences and a conical shape projectile with steel core, copper skin and lead filler were considered. First high-velocity impact tests were conducted under various test conditions. Three tests were repeated under the same impact condition. Projectile velocity before and after penetration were measured by infrared ray sensors and magnetic sensors. High-speed camera shots and C-Scan images were also taken to measure the projectile velocities and to obtain the information on the damage shapes of the projectile and the laminate specimens. Next, the numerical simulation was performed using explicit finite element code LS-DYNA. Both the projectile and the composite laminate were modeled using three-dimensional solid elements. Residual velocity history of the impact projectile and the failure shape and extents of the laminates were predicted and systematically examined. The results of this study can provide the understanding on the penetration process of laminated composites during ballistic impact, as well as the damage amount and modes. These were thought to be utilized to predict the decrease of mechanical properties and also to help mitigate impact damage of composite structures.
In this paper, we propose the non-contact gesture recognition algorithm using 4- channel electrometer sensor array. ELF(Extremely Low Frequency) EMI and PLN are minimized because ambient electromagnetic noise around sensors has a significant impact on entire data in indoor environments. In this study, we transform AC-type data into DC-type data by applying a 10Hz LPF as well as a maximum buffer value extracting algorithm considering H/W sampling rate. In addition, we minimize the noise with the Kalman filter and extract 2-dimensional movement information by taking difference value between two cross-diagonal deployed sensors. We implemented the DTW gesture recognition algorithm using extracted data and the time delayed information of peak values. Our experiment results show that average correct classification rate is over 95% on five-gesture scenario.

It has been doing to research on novel techniques for structural health monitoring by applying various sensor techniques to measure the deflection in mechanical and civil structures. Several electric-based displacement sensors have many difficulties for using them because of EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference) noise of many lead-wires when they are installed to many points in the structures. In this paper, it is proposed an affordable intensity-based fiber optic sensor to measure small displacement solving the problems of conventional sensors. In detail, the sensor head was designed on the basis of the principle of bending loss and a basic experiment was performed to obtain the sensitivity, the linearity and the stroke of the sensor. Moreover, a prototype was designed and manufactured to be easily installed to a structure and a real-time control software was also successfully developed to drive the fiber optic sensor system.
