  • The magnetic separation of Nd-Fe-B powders prepared by melt-spun and HDDR processes was investigated. The experiments show that the ununiform melt-spun powders can be separated into various standards by means of magnetic separation method. The magnetic powders with higher properties were obtained by the use of suitable separating field. For example, the properties of ununiform melt-spun powders are Br=7.95 kG, iHc=9.93 kOe and (BH)max=10.2 MGOe before separating. Through separating in different magnetic fields, the powders obtained with a separating field of 780 Oe has the optimum properties of Br=7.7 kG, iHc=11.0 kOe and (BH)max=15.3 MGOe. The magnetic properties of the HDDR magnetic powder are hardly separated by the magnetic separation method.

  • Dielectromagnets are permanent magnets made from resin-bonded hard magnetic powders. Magnetic properties of dielectromagnets depend on kind of used hard magnetic materials as chemical compound, shape, size of grain and applied technology. Comparison of advantages and disadvantages of dielectromagnets made from different kind of magnetic powders induced us to try to prepare dielectromagnets from mixture of hard magnetic powders, not only one of them. The purpose of investigation on this kind of dielectromagnets is to find formula to prepare permanent magnets with properties adequate to different kind of electrical motors requirements. As hard magnetic materials we used powders of ferrite, melt-spun ribbon Nd-Fe-B and Alnico. Papers present results of investigation on technology of this kind of dielectromagnets. It shows also influence of kind of mixture and used technology on magnetic properties of dielectromagnets.

  • In this study, ultra-fine soft-magnetic micro-powders are prepared by high-pressure gas atomization of an Fe-based alloy, Fe-Hf-B-Nb-P-C. Spherical powders are successfully obtained by disintegration of the alloy melts under high-pressure He or $N_2$ gas. The mean particle diameter of the obtained powders is $25.7{\mu}m$ and $42.1{\mu}m$ for He and $N_2$ gas, respectively. Their crystallographic structure is confirmed to be amorphous throughout the interior when the particle diameter is less than $45{\mu}m$. The prepared powders show excellent soft magnetic properties with a saturation magnetization of 164.5 emu/g and a coercivity of 9.0 Oe. Finally, a toroidal core is fabricated for measuring the magnetic permeability, and a ${\mu}_r$ of up to 78.5 is obtained. It is strongly believed that soft magnetic powders prepared by gas atomization will be beneficial in the fabrication of high-performance devices, including inductors and motors.

  • $Mg_xNi_yZn_{1-x-y}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powders were prepared by self-propagating high temperature synthesis followed by classifying with an ultrasonic wet-magnetic separation unit to get high pure nano-sized particles. The $Mg_xNi_yZn_{1-x-y}Fe_2O_4$ ferrites were well formed by using several powders like iron, nickel oxide, zinc oxide and magnesium oxide at 0.1 MPa of oxygen pressure. The ultrasonic wet-magnetic separation of pre-mechanical milled ferrite powders resulted in producing the powders with average size of 800 nm. The addition of a surfactant during the wet-magnetic separation process improved productivity more than twice. The coercive force, maximum magnetization and residual magnetization of the $Mg_xNi_yZn_{1-x-y}Fe_2O_4$ nano-powders with 800 nm size were 3651 A/m, $53.92Am^2/kg$ and $4.0Am^2/kg$, respectively.

  • Fabrication of soft magnetic composite powders for the $Fe_2O_3-Ca$ system by mechanical alloying(MA) has been investigated at room temperature. It is found that soft magnetic composite powders in which CaO is dispersed in ${\alpha}-Fe$ matrix are obtained by MA of $Fe_2O_3$ with Ca for 5 hours. Changes in magnetization and coercivity also reflect the details of the solidstate reduction process of hematite by pure metal of Ca during MA. The saturation magnetization of MA powders increases with increasing MA time and reaches a maximum value of 65 emu/g after 7 hours of MA. The average grain size of ${\alpha}-Fe$ in MA powders, estimated by diffraction line-width, gradually decreases with increasing MA time and reaches 52 nm after 5 hours of MA. It can also be seen that the coercivity of the 5-hour MA sample is fairly high at 190 Oe, suggesting that the grain refinement of already-produced ${\alpha}-Fe$ tends to clearly occur during MA.

  • The purpose of this study is the fabrication of nano-sized Fe-Co alloy powders with soft magnetic properties by the slurry mixing and hydrogen reduction (SMHR) process. $FeCl_2$0 and $CoCl_2$ powders with 99.9% purities were used for synthesizing nanostructured Fe-Co alloy powder. Nano-sized Fe-Co alloy powders were successfully fabricated using SMHR, which was performed at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in H$_2$ atmosphere. The fabricated Fe-Co alloy powders showed $\alpha$' phase (ordered body centered cubic) with the average particle size of 45 nm. The SMHR powder exhibited low coercivity force of 32.5 Oe and saturation magnetization of 214 emu/g.

  • Cobalt ferrite and garnet powders were grown using a conventional ceramic method in two different ways for understanding the magnetic interaction between structurally different materials. Structures of these powders were investigated by using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and the magnetic interaction between iron ions and the magnetic properties of the powders were measured by a $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively. The result of the XRD measurement showed that the annealing temperature higher than $1200^{\circ}C$ was necessary to grow a $(CoFe_2O_4)_{0.5}(Y_3Fe_5O_{12})_{0.5}$ powder. $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra for the powders grown separately and mixed mechanically consisted of sub-spectra of cobalt ferrite and garnet, however, powders annealed together had an extra sub-spectrum, which was related with the magnetic interaction between the grain surface of cobalt ferrite and the one of the garnet. In case of annealing the powders at the temperature large enough to crystallize them, raw chemicals became fine cobalt ferrite and garnet particles at first and then these fine particles were aggregated and formed large grains of ferrite powders. The result of the VSM measurement showed that the powders prepared at $1200^{\circ}C$ had the similar saturation magnetization and the coercivity regardless of the preparation method.
