High operating temperature stable OLEDs with reduced reflectivity cathodes

  • The understanding of the mechanism of device degradation has been accomplished recently, for devices using $AlQ_3$ electron transport and emitter molecule. In this presentation the experimental evidence for the degradation mechanism of $AlQ_3$ based devices will be reviewed, showing that the hypothesis of an unstable $AlQ_3^+$ cation explains a large amount of experimental data. This hypothesis, however, explains not only the room temperature device degradation in time but also sheds light on temperature stability of OLEDs. Dependence of half-life of a series of devices with an emitter layer composed of a mixture of $AlQ_3$ and different hole transport molecules (mixed emitter layer) will be discussed when they are operated at elevated temperatures. These results can also be explained in the framework of an unstable $AlQ_3^+$ species. An OLED structure containing a doped mixed emitter layer will be described, which shows extraordinary stability, half-life of 1200 hours at operating temperature of 70 C and initial luminance of 1650 $cd/m^2$. We will also discuss a novel Black $Cathode^{TM}$ OLED with reduced optical reflectivity, which is also stable at elevated temperatures. The new cathode utilizes a conductive light-absorbing layer made of a mixture of metals and organic materials.

Near Infrared Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy to Measure Pulmonary Edema

  • A non-invasive spectroscopic method is presented for the measurement of pulmonary edema. Both early diagnosis and quantitative edema estimates were investigated. The spectroscopic determination of pulmonary edema involved the acquisition of diffuse reflectance spectra in the near-infrared (NIR) region with change in water concentration - water is the main constituent of edema fluid. Pulmonary edema was induced into the excised perfused lungs of seven animals by elevating the hydrostatic pressure. Estimates of edema were ascertained from a partial least squares regression of the measured spectral response. Actual edema was determined from the change (increase) in total lung weight. Estimates in relative lung weight increases due to in vitro edema were made with the near infrared spectra. The results revealed that fluid accumulation produced spectral changes in the O-H and C-H absorptions as well as scattering changes in the spectra. Histology of the lung was used to verify the presence or absence of interstitial and alveolar edema. Results demonstrated that near infrared spectroscopy might provide a new tool for clinical assessment of pulmonary edema.

외국의 농촌간호에 관한 고찰 - 호주, 캐나다, 미국을 중심으로- (Lessons from the Development of Rural Health Nursing in Australia, Canada, and the United States)

  • Purpose: This study was done to learn from the development of rural health nursing in developed countries. Method: A literature search was done using keywords such as "rural and nursing" or "rural and health" from the database CHINAL and website of institutions related to rural health and nursing. Results: In Australia, the type of rural health institution was categorized according to the population size and nursing service was done differently according to area. It is unique to Canada to have the Canadian Association of Rural and Remote Nursing, which published the survey report "the Nature of Nursing Practice in Rural and Remote Canada". In the U.S., the role of nurse practitioners in rural communities was relatively well developed and a diverse nursing care model was demonstrated. To improve health care access in rural communities, financial and political support by the governments has been part of long-term plans in the three countries. Conclusion: It is very informative to identity the difference and similarity in rural health nursing in three developed countries. For the future development of Korean rural nursing, suggestion can be made in terms of research, education and policy development.

  • This paper describes the commercial application of custom ultrafiltration (UF) membranes in the resolution of two aqueous-based problems: the recovery and recycling of laundry wash water and the fmal polishing of sodium hydroxide sterilization solution in the dairy and brewing industries. Both applications are currently in the pilot Stage and employ custom-made UF membranes developed by Liumar Technologies Corporation of Ottawa, Canada.

캐나다 거시평가 제도의 운영현황 연구 (A Study on Practice of Canadian Macro-Appraisal System)

  • 캐나다 거시평가제도의 궁극적인 목표는 당대의 사회상을 기록을 통해 형성시키는 것이라 할 수 있다. 즉, 기록물이 생산되는 그 시대의 사회구조 속에서 기록물이 갖게 되는 의미를 평가하는데 목적이 있다. 이렇게 사회에 가장 큰 영향을 주고받는 조직체는 '정부'라는 유기체로 파악하고, 이를 문서화하기 위해서는 정부의 기능분석을 강조한다. 따라서 거시평가 제도는 기능분석을 통해서 가장 중요한 기능을 수행하는 부서인 OPI를 식별하는 것이 핵심이다. 또한 국가와 시민과의 상호작용에 대한 거버넌스 연구를 진행한다. 이러한 연구를 바탕으로 비로소 거시평가 가설이 형성되고, 기록을 통해서 이를 검증하는 단계가 거시평가의 방법론이라고 할 수 있다. 본 논문은 현대 평가의 주류를 이루고 있는 거시평가 방법론에 주목하여, 캐나다에서 실제로 실행되고 있는 거시평가의 제도분석을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해서 캐나다 국립기록청에서 발행한 정부기록처분프로그램 관련 문건과 논문을 분석함으로서, 실제로 평가가 이루어지는 구체적인 과정을 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 한국의 평가 제도를 분석하여 문제점을 밝히고, 캐나다의 평가제도에서 벤치마킹할 수 있는 부분을 도출하였다.

  • 본 연구는 해외 공공기록관에서의 민간기록물 수집 현황을 조사하기 위해 미국, 캐나다 및 호주의 주립기록관을 대상으로 웹사이트에 공개된 민간기록물 수집 관련 정책과 안내를 분석하였다. 미국의 5개 주립기록관, 캐나다의 7개 주립기록관, 호주의 2개 주립기록관 등 모두 14개 주립기록관을 대상으로 하였으며 수집되는 민간기록물의 유형과 영역, 기증 또는 위탁 등 민간기록물 수집방법, 저작권 이전과 접근제한 부여 및 처분 등 고려할 사항을 살펴보았다. 국내 공공기록관의 민간기록물 수집을 위한 시사점으로 첫째, 지역의 특성에 부합하는 민간기록물의 수집영역을 정하고 이를 수집정책에 명문화할 것과 둘째, 기증 또는 위탁과 같은 민간기록물의 수집방식을 정하고 저작권, 접근제한 및 처분 관련 절차를 수립할 것, 셋째, 지역 내 유관기관과의 협력을 도모할 것을 제안하였다.

A MICROSTRUCTURAL MODEL OF THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF DISPERSION TYPE FUELS WITH A FUEL MATRIX INTERACTION LAYER

  • This paper describes a finite element model of the microstructure of dispersion type nuclear fuels, which can be used to determine the effective thermal conductivity of the fuels during irradiation. The model simulates a representative region of the fuel as a prism shaped unit cell made of brick elements. The elements within the unit cell are assigned material properties of either the fuel or the matrix depending on position, in such a way as to represent randomly distributed fuel particles with a size distribution similar to that of the as manufactured fuel. By applying an appropriate heat flux across the unit cell it is possible to determine the effective thermal conductivity of the unit cell as a function of the volume fraction of the fuel particles. The presence of a fuel/matrix interaction layer is simulated by the addition of a third set of material properties that are assigned to the finite elements that surround each fuel particle. In this way the effective thermal conductivity of the material may also be determined as a function of the volume fraction of the interaction layer. Work is on going to add fission gas bubbles in the fuel as a fourth phase to the model.

신용장거래에 있어서 제3자 사기에 관한 해석 (Interpretation of 3rd Party's Fraud Exception Rule Under Law of Letters of Credit)

  • The fraud exception rule allows for the issuing bank to dishonor the claim if it the documents and transactions bear fraud though the documents presented are complied with the terms and conditions of the letter of credit. A question arises whether the fraud exception rule can apply to innocent beneficiary when fraud is made by 3rd party. United City Merchants v. Royal Bank of Canada showed a good example how to handle in case of innocent beneficiary. At this case House of Lord found that innocent beneficiary deserves payment applying nullity exception rule. I believe that the nullity exception rule is employed for the benefit of innocent beneficiary as far as the issuer and applicant get no actual damage by the 3rd party's fraudulent action which is shown on documents.

  • The present paper describes the preliminary compilation, assessment and examination of the supercritical heat transfer(SCHT) database. The availability and reliability of the SCHT data are discussed. Similarities in thermodynamic supercritical properties and SCHT behaviour of water, $CO_{2}$ and R-134a have been examined and some tentative conclusions are made. Finally, the future experimental and analytical program at the University of Ottawa is described.
