A qualitative approach was used; therefore in-depth interviews were conducted with seven panels of professionals in the luxury industry. The findings are as follows: 1) Handbag customers mainly seek the social benefits in order to express their social status by purchasing well-known, easily-recognizable brands. 2) Shoe customers primarily seek the practical-functional benefits, which are comfort and function. 3) Small Leather Goods customers seek the social benefits for themselves and as gifts for others. 4) Brand loyalty for handbag customers is reported to be low, as their primary goals are the social benefits. • This study aims to analyze consumer perceptions of the metaverse platform and luxury fashion brands in relation to consumer lifestyles, thereby providing foundational data for future marketing strategies of fashion brands using the metaverse. A survey on the lifestyle and perceptions of the metaverse, as well as on luxury fashion brands, was conducted among 300 men and women between their 20s and 40s. Statistical analyses included frequency analysis, cross-tabulation, chi-square (χ2) analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's post-hoc test. Factor analysis of the participants' lifestyles revealed five distinct types: "Indifferent," "Social, individual, and leisure-oriented," "Trend-leading and brand-oriented," "Appearance and fashion-oriented," and "Self-improvement-focused and individualistic" types. The analysis of luxury fashion brand perceptions based on lifestyle types showed that the "Trend-leading and brand-oriented" type had higher awareness and preference for brands such as Gucci, Burberry, and Balenciaga, while the "Indifferent" type showed lower levels of awareness and preference. Regarding brand perception related to luxury fashion brand content experiences within the metaverse, Gucci, Burberry, and Balenciaga showed consistent results across all types. Specifically individuals classified under the "Trend-leading and brand-oriented" category exhibited higher awareness and preference for these brands within metaverse experiences, while those categorized as "Indifferent" displayed comparatively lower levels. Therefore, digital marketing strategies targeting consumers under the "Trend-leading and brand-oriented" category are expected to be highly effective for luxury fashion brands. This study is poised to contribute to the expansion of the marketing landscape within the metaverse virtual world for fashion.

The design of products influence brand identity and play an important role in the choice by consumers in which brand to purchase. This study investigates the impact design characteristics of luxury brands on brand attitudes as well as purchase intentions in the examination of the differences in the impact influence by product category and consumer characteristics. The product design of brands was evaluated and measured by innovative and traditional characteristics. The product categories were divided into apparel, bags, shoes, and accessories. The consumer characteristics used in this study are fashion involvement, age, income, and the amount of money used for purchasing fashion products. Sample brands, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, Burberry, and Gucci, were extracted from the Intel-brand's Luxury Brand Ranking 2008 and pilot tested for appropriateness. The data collected from 120 luxury consumers and 92 samples were statistically analyzed with SPSS 15.0, reliability test, factor analysis, ANOVA, frequency test, regression, and t-test. The findings are as follow. First, luxury brands were divided into two groups by innovative design characteristics and traditional design characteristics; innovative design characteristics show a significant influence on brand attitude and purchase intention. Second, only fashion related behavior factors among consumer characteristics became moderators when design characteristics influenced brand attitude and purchase intention. Third, the differences in purchase intention affected by design characteristics were found in bags, shoes, and accessories category. It is necessary for luxury brands to focus on innovative design characteristics and to specify the different needs of consumers through fashion related behavioral factors. This research will be useful to luxury brands in designing products and planning marketing strategies by offering specific information for luxury brand consumers.

  • Luxury fashion brands have begun to aggressively introduce art to justify inherent values such as tradition, craftsmanship, and exclusivity that make it difficult for luxury brands to uphold awe-inspiring atmosphere. Artification refers to a process in which non-artistic factors are transformed into art or artistic category under the influence of artistic thoughts or actions. In addition, the consumption space provided by brands have become important as the importance of substantial shopping experience has increased. Especially, since the artification is actively utilized in flagship stores in the communication interface with consumers. This study uses a literature review and case studies to typify and derive the meaning of the method for artification at a flagship store that effectively conveys brand identity and value. The types of artification at a luxury fashion brand flagship store are divided into pursuing brand permanency and maintaining brand exclusivity that also provides a new value of permanency like a work of art to a luxury fashion brand. Basic values, such as scarcity are declining, reviving and justifying the value threatened by the popularization of luxury.

  • This study investigates Korean consumers' general perception on brand authenticity, tests the influences of authenticity determinants on the evaluation of fashion brand authenticity and compares the influences in terms of brand category (luxury/non-luxury). A three-stage methodological approach was adopted: (1) A literature review identifies authenticity determinants and generates measurement items. (2) A preliminary study uses a quantitative survey (n=50) to purify the determinants. (3) A quantitative consumer survey (n=150) identifies general perceptions on brand authenticity by measuring the perceived relevance of brand authenticity on determinants and explores the influence of determinants on authenticity evaluations using purified measurements of authenticity determinants. The results of general perception on brand authenticity show that Korean consumers deem authentic brands as honest, sincere and socially responsible. The results indicate obvious differences between luxury and non-luxury brands towards the influence of perceived authenticity determinants (genuine, consistent, original, traditional and authoritative) on authenticity evaluation of luxury/non-luxury brands. In non-luxury brands, only 'genuine' and 'consistent' have significant effects that are similar to the results of the general perception on brand authenticity. However, only 'consistent' and 'authoritative' have significant effects for luxury brands and are different from the general perception.

  • Art strategies have been addressing the problem of volume growth caused by changes in the distribution environment of luxury brands. Art is a universal language that transcends borders and communicates across cultures, therefore, artification acts as a strategy for the globalization of luxury brands. This study aims to study how contemporary luxury brands communicate their artifacts strategically through branded products via artification. As a research method, a literature review and case studies were combined. The cases of artification range from the 2000s to the present, and the top 100 brands in the luxury category of Millward Brown were selected. Drawing on the characteristics of artification defined in this study we analyzed the cases of articulation of luxury brands. As a result, first, appropriation of art in the product frame is carried out by borrowing ideas from renowned works or artists. Second, as an experimental attempt, it is effective to associate the international reputation of an artist with a product through a reinterpretation of the product. Third, as an artistic creation for the brand narrative, luxury products are sublimated into artwork and idealized.
