Synthesis of spherical phosphors (Y,Gd)$BO_3$:Eu from Precursors in Polymeric Form by Aerosol Pyrolysis

  • The phosphors of high luminous efficiency for PDP application must have high purity, single phase, and dense surface. In this work, the polymeric reaction was applied to preparation of spherical phosphor by aerosol pyrolysis in order to enhance mechanical and optical characteristics. The red phosphor of (Y,Gd)$BO_3$:Eu was prepared from polymeric precursor, in which citric acid and ethylene glycol were used as ion carriers, i.e monomers. For enhancing the luminescence intensity and mechanical characteristics. optimum synthesizing condition were investigated through concentration of monomers, synthetic temperature. doped activator concentrations, and annealing process. The phosphors synthesized with monomers showed quite different morphology from those without monomers. It was observed that polymeric precursor made an effect on particle formation mechanism and status of particles surface. The resultant spherical phosphors show the comparable luminescent properties to the commercial product (product by Nichia co.). Also, they were observed to have the rigid surface.

  • We have investigated current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes based on $TPD/Alq_3$ organics depending on the application of forward-reverse bias voltage. Luminance-voltage characteristics and luminous efficiency were measured at the same time when the I-V characteristics were measured. We have observed that the I-V characteristics shows a current mxima at low voltage, which is possibly not related to the emission from $Alq_3$.

  • HPSL(High Pressure Sodium lamp)have attracted much attention in recent years, because they offer high luminous efficiency and very long life. Recently, AC-DC converters have been widely as power factor improvement circuits in the power conversion equipment An application of the ZVT-PWM(Zero Voltage Transition Pulse Width Modulation) boost converter, which has great advantage on miniaturization and high power density, to the power factor improvement circuit of the HPSL inverter are described to identify the power factor correction characteristics of the inverter. In this paper the series-parallel resonant inverter(electronic ballast) for driving a HPS lamp is discussed. Finally, a power factor corrector is cascaded in front of the electronic ballast. Consequently, a high power factor above 0.99 and low THD on the line current can be achieved.

  • A new type ac plasma display panels(PDPs) cells are designed and tested electrically and optically. One cells have the structure of sin discharge path shape and small electrode area. The other cells have the non-symmetric structure with a same electrode area. They show a higher luminous efficiency and a lower power consumption about 25% improvement than the conventional standard ac PDP cells.

  • A plasma display panel(PDP) with a new discharge cells are investigated electrically and optically. These cells have the structure of a long discharge path length and a small electrode area. They have shown a higher luminous efficiency and a lower power consumption about $30{\sim}40%$ improvement than the conventional standard ac PDP cells.

  • This paper deals with the effect of the thickness of R,G and B phosphor on the electrical and optical characteristics in the reflective type AC PDP. By analyzing various parameters, such as addressing voltage, surface discharge voltage, luminance and luminous efficiency, the optimum value of the phosphor thickness is 50 ${\mu}m$ under the condition of 150 ${\mu}m$ barrier rib height.

  • There have been various efforts to achieve a better PDP TV, which have low power consumption, high image quality and low price. As the results, the power consumption of LG's new 42 inch HD PDP could be lower than 42 inch LCD under the general movie display load condition. And the address discharge time lag of ${\sim}1\;{\mu}s$ for 42 and 50 inch XGA single scan by which the cost can be reduced and image quality can be improved was achieved by using new MgO material and driving waveform. In addition, we have suggested TCA (Triangular Color pixel Arrangement) cell structure for realizing the full HDTV of 60inch diagonal size, which has $1920{\times}1080$ resolution. The luminous efficiency of the suggested TCA structure has been increased about 40% compared with that of the conventional cell structure.

  • Plasma Display Panel(PDP) has mirco-cell, so it is difficult to know the physical properties of particles in PDP cell. To know this, we made a cell that is 200 times as large as a general PDP cell. Using this cell, the temperature and the density of electrons have been measured by the fast scanning probe.

  • The plasma display panels with newly designed sustain electrode structure have been proposed and its characteristics hate been measured. One has a enlarged discharge path, and the other has a concentration point of electric potential. These structures have a high luminance and luminous efficiency.

  • $Ir(dpq/dpqx)_2$(przl-R) complexes were prepared and their electrochemical properties were investigated, where dpq, dpqx and przl-R represent 2,3-diphenylquinoline, 2,3-diphenylquinoxaline and N-phenyl-R-pyrazolonate derivatives, respectively. The iridium complexes containing dpq and dpqx as main ligands were reported to show red phosphorescence, and involvement of a pyrazolonate ancillary ligand in the iridium complexes led to high luminous efficiency for organic light-emitting diodes. In this study, we synthesized red phosphorescent iridium complexes containing a new pyrazolonate ancillary ligand and investigated the HOMOs, LUMOs and resulting electrochemical gaps of $Ir(dpq/dpqx)_2$(przl-R) by cyclic voltammetry. The emission wavelengths of the complexes at 600 - 640 nm were consistent with the gaps of 1.95 - 2.03 eV measured from reduction and oxidation potentials of the complexes.
