  • Thermo-chromic Liquid Crystal(TLC) particles were used as temperature sensor for thermal fluid flow. $1K\times1K$ CCD color camera and Xenon Lamp(500W) were used for the visualization of a Hele-Shaw cell. The characteristic between the reflected colors from the TLC and their corresponding temperature shows strong non-linearity. A neural network known as having strong mapping capability for non-linearity is adopted to quantify the temperature field using the image of the flow. Improvements of color-to-temperature mapping was attained by using the local color luminance (Y) and hue (H) information as the inputs for the constructed neural network.

  • Until the first stage of the 1990's years. Korea are not concern so much the facilities of traffic tunnel, because of them are the short length and also the quantity of them are not over the several tens in korea, but in latest many tunnels has been constructed and are designed in expressway and local national loads, the government office concerned forecast the numbers of tunnel are increased about 300 until the 2003 years, and then we need more interesting about the facilities of tunnel in the tunnel, the first above of all important facilities is lighting installation which are required much electric energy and continuing maintenance.

  • Measuring the three-dimensional (3D) spatial light intensity distribution of an autostereoscopic multiview 3D display at the user position is time-consuming, as luminance has to be measured at different positions around the user position. This study investigates a method to quickly estimate the 3D distribution at the user position. For this purpose, a measurement setup using a white semitransparent diffusing screen or a two-dimensional (2D) spatial sensor was devised to measure the 2D light intensity distribution at the user position. Furthermore, the 3D spatial light intensity distribution at the user position was estimated from these 2D distributions at different viewing distances. From the estimated 3D distribution, the characteristics of autostereoscopic 3D display performance can be derived and the candidate positions for further accurate measurement can be quickly determined.

  • KH University has developed a large sky simulator which is its scale suits international standard. To verify the reliability of the sky simulator, the luminance of 36 points on the inner sky surface was measured and compared with the CIE standard overcast sky model. It was found that the sky simulator can reproduce the CIE standard overcast sky condition with 1.8[%] of mean difference. To identify the differences of daylighting performance, scale model measurements were taken under a real sky and in a sky simulator. Under overcast sky conditions, two kinds of scale model experiments were conducted by using the photometric sensor Li-cor. Firstly, a 1/20 scale model of a side-lit office room 4.9[m] wide, 7.2[m] long, and 2.6[m] high was created. Five measurement points were set at 1.2[m], 2.4[m], 3.6[m], 4.8[m], and 6.0[m] from the window. The mean difference of the light factor between the sky simulator and real sky was 7.1[%]. Secondly, a 1/30 scale model of a top-lit atrium 15[m] wide, 15[m] long, and 15[m] high was created. The measurement point was set at center of the room and the well indexes of the model were set in 5 types. The mean difference of the light factor between the sky simulator and real sky was 1.7[%]. This proved that the sky simulator is fully accurate and usable for daylighting research.

  • Organic thin film EL devices using PPV(poly (p-phenylenevinylene)) as emitter were fabricated on various conditions and structures, their electro-optical properties were estimated. Fabricated EL devices had structures of single layer(ITO(indium tin oxide)/PPV/Mg), double layer(ITO/PVK(poly(N-vinylcarbazole))/PPV/Mg and ITO/PPV/Polymer matrix + PBD/Mg) and three layer (ITO/PVK/PPV/PS(polystyrene)+PBD(butyl-2-(4-bipheny])-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole))/Mg), their electro-optical characteristics were compared with each other. In structure of double layer (ITO/PPV /Polymer matrix + PBD/Mg), the used polymer-matrices were PMMA(poly(methyl methacrylate), PC(polycarbonate), PS and MCH(side chain liquid crystalline homopolymer). When PS as a hole transport layer was used, the luminance characteristics on concentration of PBD was obtained. In results, current-voltage-luminance curves of fabricated devices had characteristics of tunneling effect and the device showed a stable light emitting.

  • To improve the image quality and lower the power consumption of the mobile applications, it is the one of the best candidate to control the backlight unit of the LCD module with ambient light. Ambient light sensor and readout circuit were integrated in LCD panel for the mobile applications, and we designed them with LTPS TFT. We proposed noble start-up correction in order to correct the variation of the photo sensors in each panel. We used time-to-digital method for converting photo current to digital data. To effectively merge time-to-digital method with start-up correction, we proposed noble dual slope correction method. The entire readout circuit was designed and estimated with LTPS TFT process. The readout circuit has very simple and stable structure and timing, so it is suitable for LTPS TFT process. The readout circuit can correct the variation of the photo sensors without an additional equipment, and it outputs the 4-levels digital data per decade for input luminance that has a dynamic range of 60dB. The readout rate is 100 times/sec, and the linearity error for digital conversion is less than 18%.

  • This paper proposes an illuminant-adaptive reproduction method using light adaptation and flare conditions for a mobile display. Displayed images in daylight are perceived as quite dark due to the light adaptation of the human visual system, as the luminance of a mobile display is considerably lower than that of an outdoor environment. In addition, flare phenomena decrease the color gamut of a mobile display and de-saturating the chroma. Therefore, this paper presents an enhancement method composed of lightness enhancement and chroma compensation. First, the ambient light intensity is measured using a lux-sensor, then the flare is calculated based on the reflection ratio of the display device and the ambient light intensity. To improve the perceived image, the image's luminance is transformed by linearization of the response to the input luminance according to the ambient light intensity. Next, the displayed image is compensated according to the physically reduced chroma, resulting from flare phenomena. This study presents a color reproduction method based on an inverse cone response curve and flare condition. Consequently, the proposed algorithm improves the quality of the perceived image adaptive to an outdoor environment.

  • Recently, the USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technology is emerging as an aspect of digital convergence trends which is being rapidly evolving in the whole society. The technological feasibility for the various application services using the USN is researched in numerous industries, but, in the agricultural field, the market of USN application service, technology adoption and commercialization have been delayed. In the agricultural field, the ubiquitous technologies could lead to huge change in the conventional surroundings such as growth environment of livestock, crop cultivation and harvest. In this paper, to offer a integrated management, we construct a u-swinery(ubiquitous swinery) system which is consisted with USN environmental sensors to collect information from physical phenomenon such as luminance, relative humidity, temperature and ammonia gas. Numbers of CCTV were also installed to monitor inside and outside of the swinery. The u-swinery integrated management system can monitor and control the condition of swinery from remote sites. Furthermore, by gathering the cumulative environmental data from the system, the optimal growth condition for the livestock could be created.

  • Recently, the collection of the sensor data and its analysis become important as the smart buildings equipped with the various sensors appear as a usual scene. The interconnection through the wire cable among the sensors is indispensible because of the information collections such as the temperature, the humidity, and the luminance in the rooms and the hallways for the effective management of the in-building energies. However, these interconnections through the cabling will be very costly, time-consuming, and a difficult task since they will cause some damages to the buildings. Therefore, the interconnections through the unwired connections are required in terms of the deployment effectiveness such as time and cost In this paper, the design and the operation appropriateness are confirmed through the simulation of the signal measurement system for in-building propagation characteristics based on signature sequence.
