In this study, we analyze the mean waiting time on the nested open queueing network, where the population within each subnetwork is controlled by a semaphore queue. The queueing network can be transformed into a simpler queueing network in terms of customers waiting time. A major characteristic of this model is that the lower layer flow is halted by the state of higher layer. Since this type of queueing network does not have exact solutions for performance measure, the lower bound and upper bound on the mean waiting time are checked by comparing them with the mean waiting time in the transformed nested queueing network. Simulation estimates are obtained assuming Poisson arrivals and other phase-type arrival process, i.e., Erlang and hyper-exponential distributions. The bounds obtained can be applied to get more close approximation using the suitable approach.

In CDMA cellular system, because all users share the frequency resource the signals of other user becomes interference which influences the communication quality. The system capacity defined the number of connected users within a cell is determined by the amount of interference, therefore the exact estimation of interference is important to system performance evaluation. In this paper, we propose an approximated function which calculates other cell interference in terms of Riemann-Zeta function in CDMA cellular systems, and compare with simulation results in other to verify its usefulness. The upper and lower bounds of system capacity calculated with the proposed approximated function gives almost alike result with the simulation. The proposed interference bounds are useful to calculate system capacity and to evaluate some algorithm in a hierarchical cellular systems where various propagation environments are mixed.

APSK (Amplitude Phase Shift Keying) digital modulation is characterized by the circular positioning of the transmission symbols in the constellation diagram. Due to such structural characteristics, the peak-to-average power ratio of the APSK modulation is lower than that of the QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), and the amount of performance degradation over nonlinear channels can be mitigated. The APSK modulation scheme has recently been adopted as satellite communication system standards including the DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite, Version 2). In this paper, a BER (Bit Error Rate) upper bound approximation formula is derived using the channel model with the output power saturation characteristics, and its accuracy is demonstrated. Using the derived formula, the input power level that minimizes the BER is determined. The optimized performance based on the radii ratio of the 16APSK constellation and the channel saturation level is also presented.

Numerical calculations are carried out for evaluating the natural convection induced by the temperature difference between a hot inner circular cylinder and a cold outer square enclosure. A two-dimensional solution for unsteady natural convection is obtained by using the finite volume method to model an inner circular cylinder that was designed by using the immersed boundary method (IBM) for a Rayleigh number of $10^7$. In this study, we investigate the effect of the location ($\delta$) of the inner cylinder, which is located along the vertical central axis of the outer enclosure, on the heat transfer and fluid flow. The natural convection changes from unsteady to steady state depending on the $\delta$. The two critical lower bound and upper bound positions are ${\delta}_{C,L}$ = 0.05 and ${\delta}_{C,U}$ = 0.18, respectively. Within these defined bounds, the thermal and flow fields are in steady state.
Utilizing artificial noise (AN) is a good means to guarantee security against eavesdropping in a multi-inputmulti-output system, where the AN is designed to lie in the null space of the legitimate receiver's channel direction information (CDI). However, imperfect CDI will lead to noise leakage at the legitimate receiver and cause significant loss in the achievable secrecy rate. In this paper, we consider a delayed feedback system, and investigate the impact of delayed CDI on security by using a transmit beamforming and AN scheme. By exploiting the Gauss-Markov fading spectrum to model the feedback delay, we derive a closed-form expression of the upper bound on the secrecy rate loss, where $N_t$ = 2. For a moderate number of antennas where $N_t$ > 2, two special cases, based on the first-order statistics of the noise leakage and large number theory, are explored to approximate the respective upper bounds. In addition, to maintain a constant signal-to-interferenceplus-noise ratio degradation, we analyze the corresponding delay constraint. Furthermore, based on the obtained closed-form expression of the lower bound on the achievable secrecy rate, we investigate an optimal power allocation strategy between the information signal and the AN. The analytical and numerical results obtained based on first-order statistics can be regarded as a good approximation of the capacity that can be achieved at the legitimate receiver with a certain number of antennas, $N_t$. In addition, for a given delay, we show that optimal power allocation is not sensitive to the number of antennas in a high signal-to-noise ratio regime. The simulation results further indicate that the achievable secrecy rate with optimal power allocation can be improved significantly as compared to that with fixed power allocation. In addition, as the delay increases, the ratio of power allocated to the AN should be decreased to reduce the secrecy rate degradation.

The aim of this study was to compare the clinical performance of 4 types of orthodontic wires, indicated for initial tooth alignment: stainless steel, multistranded steel, superelastic and thermoactivated nickel-titanium. A prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted on a sample of 45 patients, at the Dental School of the State University of Rio do Janeiro, Brazil. Fixed appliances were fitted and study casts were obtained from each patient. Randomly, the wires were allocated as follows: 26 dental arches for superelastic NiTi wires, 22 for stainless steel, 22 for multistranded and 20 for thermoactivated archwires. After 8 weeks, the archwires were removed and impressions for study casts were taken again. Using a 3D digitization technique of defined anatomical points on the study cast crowns, a Dental Irregularity Index (DII) was created for each study cast. The difference between DII before and after the archwire insertion expressed the aligning effect of the wires. ANOVA tests were employed to evaluate the anatomical point approximation (positive DII) and separation (negative DII), for each area of the dental arches: upper and lower whole arch and anterior arch. Results showed no significant difference between the different archwires.

A three-dimensional Galerkin-FEM model which can handle the temporal and spatial variation of density is presented. The hydrostatic approximation is used and density effects are included by means of conservation equation of heat and the equation of state. The finite difference grids are used in the horizontal plane and a set of linear-shape functions is used for the vertical expansion. The similarity transform is introduced to solve resultant matrix equations. The proposed model was first applied to the density-driven circulation in an idealized basin in the presence of the heat exchange between the air and the sea. The advection terms in the momentum equation were ignored, while the convection terms were retained in the heat equation. Coefficients of the vertical eddy viscosity and diffusivity were fixed to be constant. Calculation in a non-rotating idealized basin shows that the difference in heat capacity with depth gives rise to the horizontal gradient of temperature. Consequently, there is a steady new in the upper layer in the direction of increasing depth with compensatory counter flow .in the lower layer. With Coriolis force, geostrophic flow was predominant due to the balance between the pressure gradient and the Coriolis force. As a test in region of irregular topography, the model is applied to the Yellow Sea. Although the resultant flow was very complex, the character of the flow Showed to be geostrophic on the whole.
A capacitor self-calibration is proposed to improve the linearity of the capacitor digital-to-analog converter (CDAC) for an asynchronous successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with 10-bit resolution. The proposed capacitor self-calibration is performed so that the value of each capacitor of the upper 5 bits of the 10-bit CDAC is equal to the sum of the values of the lower capacitors. According to the behavioral simulation results, the proposed capacitor self-calibration improves the performances of differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL) from -0.810/+0.194 LSBs and -0.832/+0.832 LSBs to -0.235/+0.178 LSBs and -0.227/+0.227 LSBs, respectively, when the maximum capacitor mismatch of the CDAC is 4%. The proposed 10-bit 20-MS/s asynchronous SAR ADC is implemented using a 110-nm CMOS process with supply of 1.2 V. The area and power consumption of the proposed asynchronous SAR ADC are $0.205mm^2$ and 1.25 mW, respectively. The proposed asynchronous SAR ADC with the capacitor calibration has a effective number of bits (ENOBs) of 9.194 bits at a sampling rate of 20 MS/s about a $2.4-V_{PP}$ differential analog input with a frequency of 96.13 kHz.

In this research, configuration design optimization of plane truss structure has been tested by using decomposition technique. In the first level, the problem of transferring the nonlinear programming problem to linear programming problem has been effectively solved and the number of the structural analysis necessary for doing the sensitivity analysis can be decreased by developing stress constraint into member stress approximation according to the design space approach which has been proved to be efficient to the sensitivity analysis. And the weight function has been adopted as cost function in order to minimize structures. For the design constraint, allowable stress, buckling stress, displacement constraint under multi-condition and upper and lower constraints of the design variable are considered. In the second level, the nodal point coordinates of the truss structure are used as coordinating variable and the objective function has been taken as the weight function. By treating the nodal point coordinates as design variable, unconstrained optimal design problems are easy to solve. The decomposition method which optimize the section areas in the first level and optimize configuration variables in the second level was applied to the plane truss structures. The numerical comparisons with results which are obtained from numerical test for several truss structures with various shapes and any design criteria show that convergence rate is very fast regardless of constraint types and configuration of truss structures. And the optimal configuration of the truss structures obtained in this study is almost the identical one from other results. The total weight couldbe decreased by 5.4% - 15.4% when optimal configuration was accomplished, though there is some difference.
