  • In the underwater communications, transmitted acoustic signal is corrupted by interference from multipath. A parametric array transducer is capable of radiating a narrow beam with very low sidelobe levels. In certain cases, the parametric array transducer can help the multipath problem. To improve the performance of the underwater communications, the statistical signal processing methods will be required. In the paper, the communication system using a parametric array transducer was demonstrated. To detect the received signal of the communication system based on the on-off keying, the maximum likelihood method using averaged signal for a particular window size is used. The communication system has GUI using LebVIEW which allows the user to change the parameter. The GUI can also be easily modified based on the characteristics of a parametric array transducer. The implemented system can effectively evaluate the performance of the parametric array transducer.

  • In this paper, we introduced the design technique about a Ka band receive module for millimeter wave seekers. The receiver module consists of a waveguide, circulator and transition for antenna connection, and a limiter and gain control amplifier for receiver protection. This module is comprised of a sum, azimuth and elevation channel for receiving monopules signal, and a SLB channel for the acquisition of jamming signal. In this paper, receiver gain and range of gain control dependent on ADC nonlinear characteristic was analyzed and designed for wide dynamic range receive. In the test result of the fabricated Ka-band receive, the frequency band is 1 GHz, the noise figure is as low as 8.2 dB, the gain is $56{\pm}2dB$, the dynamic range is 135 dB, the gain congtrol is more than 86 dB, the channel isolation is more than 35 dB.

  • A new design and its experimental results of a microstrip-fed ultra-wideband tapered slot antenna(TSA) for millimeter-wave systems are presented. By utilizing the ultra-wideband microstrip-to-CPS transition(balun), ultra-wideband characteristics of the inherent TSA are retrieved. Also, the design procedure of the TSA is simplified by performing simple impedance matching between balun and antenna. The proposed TSA is shaped by using the Fermi-Dirac tapering function and corrugated at the outer edge. The implemented antenna demonstrates ultra-wideband performance for frequency ranges from 23 to over 58 GHz with the relatively high and flat antenna gain of 12 to 14 dBi and low sidelobe levels. In addition, a 4-element linear antenna array for phased-array systems and mm-wave sensor applications is also presented.

  • Receive dynamic focusing with an array transducer can provide near optimum resolution only in the vicinity of transmit focal depth. A customary method to increase the depth of field is to combine several beams with different focal depths, with an accompanying decrease in the frame rate. In this Paper. we Present a simultaneous multiple transmit focusing method in which chirp signals focused at different depths are transmitted at the same time. These chirp signals are mutually orthogonal in a sense that the autocorrelation function of each signal has a narrow mainlobe width and low sidelobe levels. and the crossorelation function of any Pair of the signals has values smaller than the sidelobe levels of each autocorrelation function. This means that each chirp signal can be separated from the combined received signals and compressed into a short pulse. which is then individually focused on a separate receive beamformer. Next. the individually focused beams are combined to form a frame of image. Theoretically, any two chirp signals defined over two nonoverlapped frequency bands are mutually orthogonal In the present work. however, a tractional overlap of adjacent frequency bands is permitted to design more chirp signals within a given transducer bandwidth. The elevation of the rosscorrelation values due to the frequency overlap could be reduced by alternating the direction of frequency sweep of the adjacent chirp signals We also observe that the Proposed method provides better images when the low frequency chirp is focused at a near Point and the high frequency chirp at a far point along the depth. better lateral resolution is obtained at the far field with reasonable SNR due to the SNR gain in Pulse compression Imaging .

  • Recently, a FMCW radar is used for the various purposes in the short range detection and tracking of targets. The main advantages of a FMCWradar are the comparative simplicity of implementation and the low peak power transmission characterizing the very low probability of signal interception. Since it uses the frequency modulated continuous wave for transmission and demodulation, the received beat frequency represents the range and Doppler information of targets. Detection and extraction of useful information from targets are performed in this beat frequency domain. Therefore, the resolution and accuracy in the estimation of a beat spectrum are very important. However, using the conventional FFT estimation method, the high resolution spectrum estimation with a low sidelobe level is not possible if the acquisition time is very short in receiving target echoes. This kind of problems deteriorates the detection performance of adjacent targets having the large magnitude differences in return echoes and also degrades the reliability of the extracted information. Therefore, in this paper, the model parameter estimation methods such as autoregressive and eigenvector spectrum estimation are applied to mitigate these problems. Also, simulation results are compared and analyzed for further improvement.

  • Under Resolution 122 (Rev. WRC-03), ITU-R is invited to study, as a matter of urgency, power limitations applicable for HAPS ground stations to facilitate sharing with space station receivers in the bands 47.2-47.5 GHz and 47.9-48.2 GHz. However, there have been no studies on this issue. Recommendation ITU-R SF.1481-1 which was developed during past study period, provides methodology and system characteristics for analyzing the sharing feasibility between systems in the FS using HAPS and systems in the FSS. System characteristics for a typical HAPS in the bands above are also given in Recommendation ITU-R F.1500. This paper provides the results on power limitations applicable for HAPS ground stations in accordance with Resolution 122 (Rev. WRC-03). As already shown in ITU-R Recommendation the results show that a sufficient separation distance is required for sharing between HAPS ground stations and FSS satellite systems. We obtain some examples of the sharing conditions considering reducing the power level of HAPS ground stations and using the antenna beam pattern with the low sidelobe to decrease the interference level affecting FSS satellite receiver.
