  • High quality polycrystalline silicon is very critical part of the high quality thin film transistor(TFT) for display devices. Metal induced lateral crystallization(MILC) is one of the most successful technologies to crystallize the amorphous silicon at low temperature(below $550^{\circ}C$) and uses conventional and large glass substrate. In this study, we observed that the MILC behavior changed with abrupt variation of the amorphous silicon active pattern width. We explained these phenomena with the novel MILC mechanism model. The 10 nm thick Ni layers were deposited on the glass substrate having various amorphous silicon patterns. Then, we annealed the sample at $550^{\circ}C$ with rapid thermal annealing(RTA) apparatus and measured the crystallized length by optical microscope. When MILC progress from narrow-width-area(the width was $w_2$) to wide-width-area(the width was $w_1$), the MILC rate decreased dramatically and was not changed for several hours(incubation time). Also the incubation time increased as the ratio, $w_1/w_2$, get larger. We can explain these phenomena with the tensile stress that was caused by volume shrinkage due to the phase transformation from amorphous silicon to crystalline silicon.

  • Noble thermosensitive nanoparticles, based on a PNIPAAm-co-AA core and a chitosan shell structure, were designed and synthesized for the controlled release of the loaded drug. PNIPAAm nanoparticles containing a carboxylic group on their surface were synthesized using emulsion polymerization. The carboxylic groups were conjugated with the amino group of a low molecular weight, water soluble chitosan. The particle size of the synthesized nanoparticles was decreased from 380 to 25 nm as the temperature of the dispersed medium was increased. Chitosan-conjugated nanoparticles with $2{\sim}5$ wt% MBA, a crosslinking monomer, induced a stable aqueous dispersion at a concentration of 1mg/1mL. The chitosan-conjugated nanoparticles showed thermo sensitive behaviors such as LCST and size shrinkage that were affected by the PNIPAAm core and induced some particle aggregation around LCST, which was not shown in the NIPAAm-co-AA nanoparticles. These chitosan-conjugated nanoparticles are also expected to be more biocompatible than the PNIPAAm core itself through the chitosan shell structures.

  • A 3D structure production method for microstereolithography is a useful way that produces complex structures with flexible processes and low cost. Several UV curable resins were blended and the optimal resin for micro-lens fabricate was selected through viscosity, workability and transmission tests. It consists of 1, 6 - Hexanediol diacrylate with 15 Apha and Isobornyl acrylate for reducing some shrinkage. When fabricating a micro-lens array on large surface, some distortion of shape occurred because of the surface tension between cured part. To overcome this problem, the optimal processing conditions were derived from considering amount of the resin and surface tension. Large surface Micro-lens array, which are a type of elliptical convex and consist of 18,000 micro-lens in the range of 2cm*2cm were fabricated. The focal length to the X-axis and Y-axis were calculated. To verify the performance, measure an energy distribution of transmitted light from the Large surface Micro-lens array.

  • It is well known that the Cu-Cr alloys are very difficult to be made by conventional sintering methods. This difficulty originates both from limited solubility of Cr in the Cu matrix and from limited sintering temperature due to high vapor pressures of Cr and Cu components at the high temperature. Densification of Cu-50%Cr Powder compacts by conventional Powder metallurgy Process has been studied. Three kinds of sintering methods were tested in order to obtain high-density sintered compacts. Completely densified Cu-Cr compacts could be obtained neither by solid state sintering method nor by liquid phase sintering method. Both low degree of shrinkage and evolution of large pores in the Cu matrix during the solid state sintering are attributed to the anchoring effect of large Cr particles, which inhibits homogeneous densification of Cu matrix and induces pore generation in the Cu matrix. In addition, the effect of undiffusible gas coming from the reduction of Cu-oxide and Cr-oxide was observed during liquid phase sintering. A two-step sintering method, solid state sintering followed by liquid phase sintering, was proved to have beneficial effect on the fabrication of high-dendsity Cu-Cr sintered compacts. The sintered compacts have properties similar to those of commercial products.

  • WC and dense WC-10 vol%Co materials with grain size of~1${\mu}m$ were synthesized by high-frequency induction heated combustion synthesis (HFIHCS) method in one step from elemental powders of W, C and Co within several minutes. Simultaneous combustion synthesis and densification were accomplished under the combined effects of an induced current and mechanical pressure. In the absence of cobalt additive, WC can be formed, but its relative density was low (about 73%) under simultaneous application of a 60 MPa pressure and the induced current. However, in the presence of 10 vol.%Co, the relative density increased to 99% under the same experimental condition. The percentages of the total shrinkage occurring before and during the synthesis reaction of WC-10 vol.%Co were 5% and 51%, respectively. The fracture toughness and hardness values of WC-10 vol.%Co were 10 MPa . m$^{1/2}$ and 1840 kg/$mm^2$, respectively.

  • The narrow-pitched connectors are of interest for small-scale devices such as smart phones because of theirs caling. We conducted an injection molding analysis and a warp analysis for 0.3mm and 0.5mm pitch FPC connectors. We obtained a volumetric shrinkage of 4.344%, a clamping force of 0.2529 tonne, a maximum injection pressure of 76.3 MPa as optimized molding conditions for the 0.3mm pitch FPC connector. We found that, compared with the traditional injection molding technique, the injection molding for narrow-pitched connectors comes with distinct features like low clamping force, high injection molding pressure, and narrow gate size. Adding to the optimization analysis, the deflection of 0.5mm pitch FPC connector was analyzed as well. A maximum deflection of 0.053mm was calculated, which the actual deflection of 0.062mm was compared to. The results deduced a relative error of 17%. We conclude that the deflection analysis along with the optimization analysis can be used as an effective tool to predict the behavior of narrow-pitch connectors although the relative error may need to improve.

  • Soft clay soils due to their various geotechnical problems, stabilized with different additives. Traditional additives such as cement and lime will not able to increase the soil strength properties significantly. So, it seems necessary to use new additives for increasing strength parameters of soft clay soils significantly. Among the new additives, epoxy resins have excellent physical and mechanical properties, low shrinkage, excellent resistance to chemicals and corrosive materials, etc. So, in this research, epoxy resin used for stabilization of soft clay soils. For comprehensive study, three clay soil samples with different PI and various clay mineral types were studied. A series of uniaxial tests, SEM and XRD analysis conducted on the samples. The results show that using epoxy resin increases the strength parameters such as UCS, elastic modulus and material toughness about 100 to 500 times which the increase was dependent on the type of clay minerals type in the soil. Also, In addition to water conservation, the best efficiency in the weakest and most sensitive soils is the prominent results of stabilization by epoxy resin which can be used in different climatic zones, especially in hot and dry and equatorial climate which will be faced with water scarcity.

  • The study was conducted in order to investigate the basic geotechnical properties of sand-bentonite mixtures with the various bentonite contents. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Optimum moisture content of sand-bentonite mixtures was approximately 17.10~18.52% corresponding to the maximum dry density of 1.58~1 .64gf/$cm^3$. As the bentonite contents and curing peroid increased, both the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of sand-bentonite mixtures increased. 2. The unconfined compressive strength of sand-bentonite mixtures increased as the increase of bentonite content, but it did not change along the curing period. 3. The sand-bentonite mixtures ruptured at 8~15% of the axial strain and the maxi-mum shearing stress was about O.7Okgf/$cm^2$. 4. According to the increase of bentonite content, the cohesion intercept and internal friction of the sand-bentonite mixtures increased slightly in the shear test, while the cohesion intercept increased largely, and the internal friction angle decreased largely in the triaxial test. 5. Both the initial void ratio and swelling of the sand-bentonite mixtures were very low with respect to the consolidation pressure increase. 6. The swelling and shrinkage of sand-bentonite mixtures increased slightly according to the increment of bentonite content.

  • The cordierite powders were prepared from Mg(NO3)2.6H2O, Al(NO3)3.9H2O and colloidal silica by the coprecippitation method, and the sintering behavior of the powders were investigated. Two different methods were applied for producing the precursor powders. The one was to added the aqueous solution of Mg(NO3)2.6H2O and Al(NO3)3.9H2O to NH4OH to adjust pH at 10 where the colloidal silica of pH 10 was added. The other wa to add the aqueous solution of Mg(NO3)2.6H2O and Al(NO3)3.9H2O to the colloidal silica with NH4OH to control the final mixture to be at pH 10. It was confirmed that more homogeneous powders were obtained from the latter method. The firing linear shrinkage of the powder compacts fabricated from the calcined powder between 90$0^{\circ}C$ and 110$0^{\circ}C$ was found to be larger as the calcination temperature was low. But all of them stopped shrinking around 120$0^{\circ}C$. The powder compacts, fabricated using the calcined powders at 90$0^{\circ}C$ and 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hours and sintered at 142$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hours, showed relative density of 93-96%, 3-point bending strength of 81-83MPa, KIC of 1.9-2.4 MPam1/2 and thermal expansion coefficient of 0.213-0.732$\times$10-6$^{\circ}C$.
