Influence of changing combustor pressure on flame stabilization and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission in the swirl-stabilized flame with secondary fuel injection was investigated. The combustor pressure was controlled by suction at combustor exit. Pressure index ($P{\ast}=P_{abs}/P_{atm}$), where $P_{abs}$ and $P_{atm}$ indicated the absolute pressure and atmosphere pressure, was controlled in the range of $0.7{\sim}1.3$ for each equivalence ratio conditions. The flammable limits of swirl flames were largely influenced by changing combustor pressure and they showed different tendency compared with laminar flames. Emission index showed maximum value near atmospheric condition and decreased with decreasing pressure index for overall equivalence ratio conditions. R.m.s of pressure fluctuations also showed similar tendency with nitric oxide emission. By injecting secondary fuel into flame zone, the flammable limits were extended significantly. Emission index of nitric oxide and r.m.s. of pressure fluctuations were also controlled by injecting secondary fuel. The swirl flames were somewhat lifted by secondary fuel with high momentum, hence low nitric oxide emission. This NOx reduction technology is applicable to industrial furnaces and air conditioning system by adopting secondary fuel injection.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of the abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM) and abdominal expansion maneuver (AEM) on trunk stabilization, as well as trunk muscle activities and differences in quadruple visual analogue scale, Korean Oswestry Disability Index, and Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire scores, in patients with chronic low back pain and lumbar spine instability. To increase intra-abdominal pressure during the trunk stabilization exercise, the technique of pushing the abdomen out using diaphragmatic abdominal breathing suggested by Pavel Koral was used, which we termed the AEM. Fifty patients who tested positive on more than three of the five lumbar spine instability tests were separated from 138 patients with chronic low back pain of these patients, 16 were placed in the control group (trunk stabilization exercise), 17 were placed in the ADIM group (trunk stabilization exercise with ADIM), and 17 were placed in the AEM group (trunk stabilization exercise with AEM). Each group participated in the study for 30 minutes three times weekly for 4 weeks. Surface electromyography was used to measure the trunk muscle activities during the kneeling forward and supine bridging positions, and one-way repeated analysis of variance was used to determine the statistical significance of the trunk muscle activities in the rectus abdominis, internal oblique (IO), erector spinae, and multifidus (MF) muscles. The ADIM and AEM groups showed relatively larger improvements in psychosocial and functional disability level than control group. There were significant changes among the three groups, those from the measured values of the AEM group was significantly higher than the other two groups in changes in IO and MF trunk muscle activities (p<.05). This finding demonstrates that trunk stabilization exercises with AEM is more effective than ADIM for increasing trunk deep muscle activity of chronic low back pain patients with lumbar spine instability.
Background: Purpose of this study is mat exercises and sling exercises that based on proceeding studies for exercising protocol for spinal stabilization. Methods: We analyze many other bibliographies and result of studies. Results: The vertebrae stabilization practices are formed on intra-abdominal pressure and converted into isolation of our body and limbs gradually through co-contraction training of transverse abdominis, pelvic floor muscle and diaphragm. Also, for prevention of low back pain and relapse, it is diverted to reflex muscle contraction training as well as functional integration. What is better, it should carry out with Activity of Daily Living. Conclusion: We should feel the necessity of it, more effective recognition training of local muscle for chronic low back pain patients. Besides, it is suggested that we should import measurable equipment and go hands with discipline.
Pelvic floor muscles positively affect not only urinary incontinence but also lumbar stabilization by generating intra-abdominal pressure through interaction with muscles around the trunk. Especially, contracting pelvic floor muscles consistently and gently at low intensity is one of the most effective methods to separate and contract transverse abdominis which plays an important role in lumbar stabilization. The purpose of this study was to reexamine the importance of pelvic floor muscles which had not been used much in the treatment of lumbago and to introduce pelvic floor muscle exercises that can be utilized in the treatment of lumbago by examining literature on the relationship between pelvic floor muscles and lumbar stabilization. It is expected that this study will help apply lumbar stabilization exercise to patients with lumbago more variously and effectively.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects using pressure biofeedback and teaching abdominal hollowing exercise on pelvic stabilization during the active straight leg raising test. METHOD: The subjects were divided into 3 groups who were fourty eight healthy participants, aged 20~25 years recruited for this study. First group wad control group. This group didn't any education. Second group was teaching them for a week. And last group was teaching abdominal hollowing exercise. The rotation angles of pelvic were measured by the motion anayalyser on flat surface and on form roll for the active leg raising. RESULT: Using pressure biofeedback and teaching abdominal hollowing exercise groups were significantly effective than control group in rotation angles of pelvis. And using pressure biofeedback group was more effective than teaching core stability muscles contraction group. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that patients with low back pain and pelvic instability can improve pelvic stabilization through pressure biofeedback and teaching abdominal hollowing exercise.
In order to elucidate the effects of positive pressure gradient on flame properties, structure and stabilization, an experimental study is made on turbulent diffusion flame stabilized by a circular cylinder in a divergent duct flow. A commercial grade gaseous propane is injected from two slits on the rod as fuel. In this paper, stabilization, characteristics and flame structure are examined by varying the divergent angle of duct. Temperature, ion current and Schlieren photographs were measured. It is found that critical divergent angle is expected to be about 8 ~ 12 degree through blow-off velocity pattern to divergent angle and the positive pressure gradient influences the flame temperature, intensity of ion current and eddy structure behind the rod. With the increase of divergent angle, typical temperature of recirculation zone is low but intensity of ion current is high in shear layer behind rod. Energy distributions of fluctuating temperature and ion current signals turn up low frequency corresponding to large scale eddies but high frequency corresponding to small scale eddies as well as low with the increase of divergent angle. Therefore the flame structure becomes a typical distributed-reacting flame.
This study has numerically modeled the combustion processes of the turbulent swirling premixed lifted syngas flames in the low-swirl burner (LSB). In these turbulent swirling premixed flames, the four tangentially-injected air jets induce the turbulent swirling flow which plays the crucial role of stabilizing the turbulent lifted flames. In the present approach, the turbulence-chemistry interaction is represented by the level-set based flamelet model. Numerical results indicate clearly that the present level-set based flamelet approach has realistically simulated the structure and stabilization mechanism of the turbulent swirling premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner. Computations are made for the wide range of the syngas chemical composition and the dilution level at two pressure conditions (1.0, 5.0 bar). Numerical results indicate that the lifted height in the LSB is increased by decreasing the H2 percentage and increasing the dilution level at the given equivalence ratio. It is also found that the flashback is occurred for the hydrogen composition higher than 80% at the equivalence ratio, 0.8. However, at the syngas composition range in the IGCC system, the stable lean-premixed lifted flames are formed at the low-swirl burner.
Objective : To investigate the effects of posterior implant rigidity on spinal kinematics at adjacent levels by utilizing a cadaveric spine model with simulated physiological loading. Methods : Five human lumbar spinal specimens (L3 to S1) were obtained and checked for abnormalities. The fresh specimens were stripped of muscle tissue, with care taken to preserve the spinal ligaments and facet joints. Pedicle screws were implanted in the L4 and L5 vertebrae of each specimen. Specimens were tested under 0 N and 400 N axial loading. Five different posterior rods of various elastic moduli (intact, rubber, low-density polyethylene, aluminum, and titanium) were tested. Segmental range of motion (ROM), center of rotation (COR) and intervertebral disc pressure were investigated. Results : As the rigidity of the posterior rods increased, both the segmental ROM and disc pressure at L4-5 decreased, while those values increased at adjacent levels. Implant stiffness saturation was evident, as the ROM and disc pressure were only marginally increased beyond an implant stiffness of aluminum. Since the disc pressures of adjacent levels were increased by the axial loading, it was shown that the rigidity of the implants influenced the load sharing between the implant and the spinal column. The segmental CORs at the adjacent disc levels translated anteriorly and inferiorly as rigidity of the device increased. Conclusion : These biomechanical findings indicate that the rigidity of the dynamic stabilization implant and physiological loading play significant roles on spinal kinematics at adjacent disc levels, and will aid in further device development.
Purpose: This study aimed to measure static balance of low back pain patients while one-leg standing in abdominal compression belts. Methods: The study included 40 adult males and females at J university, divided into a low back pain patient group and a normal group through the Oswestry disability questionnaire (ODQ). The subjects were instructed to hold a one-leg standing posture for 15 seconds on a balance measurement plate while wearing an abdominal compression belt. Shifting distance (0.1 cm), mean velocity (cm/s), pressure, and contact area were analyzed using BioRescue (BioRescue, RMINGEIEIRIE, Rodez, France). The average value was used to measure the result 3 times for each condition. Results: Both normal and low back pain groups significantly decreased in the speed of sway while wearing the abdominal compression belt. Furthermore, the pressure of the center of motion significantly decreased in the low back pain groups while wearing abdominal compression belt. However, there were no significant differences in the speed of sway or the pressure of center of motion between groups after wearing the abdominal pressure belt. Conclusion: These results suggest that abdominal compression belts are one option for improving balance temporarily. However, balance after wearing abdominal compression vests depends on onset of back pain, age, and symptoms of pain in the groups with low back pain. Further research is needed to investigate muscle activity, dynamic balance, and the effect of the period of wearing abdominal compression belts in the variety of low back pain patients.
