Recently, the reduction of standby power consumption is significantly issued in electronic and electrical industry for the conservation of environment. In the case of a switched mode power supply (SMPS), it is demanded high efficiency at extremely low output power conditions by consumers. However, it is very different from high efficiency techniques at full load conditions. In addition, many SMPSs are designed as a multi-output circuit for various loads because of cost down. This circuit is difficult to implement both high efficiency and good cross regulation performance, simultaneously. In this paper, secondary side post regulator (SSPR), current mode control method, and power sequence control technique are proposed to reduce standby power consumption and to improve cross regulation performance of the multi-output SMPSs which consist of single or multiple converter. The proposed methods are analyzed by their operational principles and optimal designs verified by experimental results with 110[W] and 270[W] SMPSs.

This paper presents a wide output range, high power efficiency reconfigurable charge pump for driving touch panels with the high resistances. The charge pump is composed of 4-stages and its configuration automatically changes based on the required output voltage level. In order to keep the power efficiency over the wide output voltage range, internal blocks are automatically activated or deactivated by the clock driver in the reconfigurable charge pump minimizing the switching power loss due to the On and Off operations of MOSFET. In addition, the leakage current paths in each mode are blocked to compensate for the variation of power efficiency with respect to the wide output voltage range. This chip is fabricated using $0.18{\mu}m$ BCD process with high power MOSFET options, and the die area is $1870{\mu}m{\times}1430{\mu}m$. The power consumption of the charge pump itself is 79.13 mW when the output power is 415.45 mW at the high voltage mode, while it is 20.097 mW when the output power is 89.903 mW at the low voltage mode. The measured maximum power efficiency is 84.01 %, when the output voltage is from 7.43 V to 12.23 V.
An interleaved bridgeless buck-boost AC/DC converter is presented in this paper to achieve the characteristics of low conduction loss, a high power factor and low harmonic and ripple currents. There are only two power semiconductors in the line current path instead of the three power semiconductors in a conventional boost AC/DC converter. A buck-boost converter operated in the boundary conduction mode (BCM) is adopted to control the active switches to achieve the following characteristics: no diode reverse recovery problem, zero current switching (ZCS) turn-off of the rectifier diodes, ZCS turn-on of the power switches, and a low DC bus voltage to reduce the voltage stress of the MOSFETs in the second DC/DC converter. Interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) is used to control the switches such that the input and output ripple currents are reduced such that the output capacitance can be reduced. The voltage doubler topology is adopted to double the output voltage in order to extend the useable energy of the capacitor when the line voltage is off. The circuit configuration, principle operation, system analysis, and a design example are discussed and presented in detail. Finally, experiments on a 500W prototype are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

Combustion dynamics of a dry low NOx gas turbine have been measured by utilizing a dynamic pressure measurement system. The software part of the measurement system, implemented with a commercial general-purpose DASYLab version 5.6 code, basically acquires combustion dynamics signals, performs the FFT analysis, and displays the results. The gas turbine often experiences momentary combustion instability, especially when its combustion mode changes. It is found that the measurement system developed in the study may outperform the other commercial dynamic pressure measurement system. The developed system currently serves to monitor the combustion dynamics of the gas turbine.
Power conversion system must be increased switching frequency in order to achieve a small size, a light weight and a low noise. However, the switches of converter are subjected to high switching power losses and switching stresses. As a result of those, the power system brings on a low efficiency. To improved these, a large number of soft switching topologies included a resonant circuit has been prosed. But these circuits increase number of switch in circuit and complicate sequence of switching operation. In this paper, the authors propose a high power factor and high efficiency DC-DC converter using single-pulse soft switching by partial resonant switching node. The switching devices in a prosed circuit are operated with soft switching by the partial resonant method, that is, Partial Resonant Switch Mode Power Converter. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor using step up and a condenser of loss-less snubber. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. Also the proposed converter is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used. Some simulative results on computer results are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.
By placing distributed generation power sources beside a big nonlinear load, these sources can be used as a power quality enhancer, while injecting some active power to the network. In this paper, a new scheme to use the distributed generation power source in both operation modes is presented. In this scheme, a fuzzy controller is added to adjust the optimal set point of inverter between compensating mode and maximum active power injection mode, which works based on the harmonic content of the nonlinear load. As the high order current harmonics can be easily rejected using passive filters, the DG is used to compensate the low order harmonics of the load current. Multilevel transformerless cascade inverters are preferred in such utilization, as they have more flexibility in current/voltage waveform. The proposed scheme is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK to evaluate the circuit performance. Then, a 1kw single phase prototype of the circuit is used for experimental evaluation of the paper. Both simulative and experimental results prove that such a circuit can inject a well-controlled current with desired harmonics and THD, while having a smaller switching frequency and better efficiency, related to previous 3-phase inverter schemes in the literature.

Pumped storage power plants are playing a significant role in the contribution to the stabilization of an electrical grid, above all by stable operation and fast reaction to sudden load respectively frequency changes. Optimized efficiency and smooth running characteristics both in pump and turbine operation, improved stability for synchronization in turbine mode, load control in pump mode operation and also short reaction times may be achieved using adjustable speed power units. Such variable speed power plants are applicable for high variations of head (e.g. important for low head pump-turbine projects). Due to the rapid development of power semiconductors and frequency converter technology, feasible solutions can be provided even for large hydro power units. Suitable control strategies as well as clear design criteria contribute significantly to the optimal usage of the pump turbine and motor-generators. The SIMSEN tool for dynamic simulations has been used for comparative investigations of different configurations regarding the power converter topology, types of semiconductors and types of motor-generators including the coupling to the hydraulic system. A brief overview of the advantages & disadvantages of the different solutions can also be found in this paper. Using this approach, a customized solution minimizing cost and exploiting the maximum usage of the pump-turbine unit can be developed in the planning stage of new and modernization pump storage projects.
This paper presents a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system with direct coupled power quality control (PQC) algorithm, which uses an inner current control loop (PRT : polarized ramp time) and outer feedback control loop to improve grid power quality and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of PV arrays. To reduce the complexity, cost and number of power conversions, which results in higher efficiency, single stage CCVSI (Current Controlled Voltage Source Inverter) is used. The proposed system operation has been divided into two modes (sunny and night). In night mode, the proposed system operates to compensate the reactive power demanded by nonlinear or variation in loads. in sunny mode, the proposed system performs PQC to reduce harmonic current and improve power factor as well as MPPT to supply active power from the PV arrays simultaneously. it is shown that the proposed system improves the system utilization factor to 100% which is generally low for PV system (20%). To verify the proposed system, a comprehensive evaluation with theoretical analysis and simulation results are presented.

In recent, electronic devices were able to develop and focus for ultra-compact size, intelligence, multifunction and broadband. Their SMPS is realized to ultra-compact size, light weight, high efficiency, high reliability, low noises. The power module which can be used to supply DC output from a commercial power supply (85 to 265 VAC). A switching power supply can be made easily by adding simply external circuit, such as microcontroller, a relay, etc. It would be apply to mostly electronic devices, and fit the global project "Saving energy". But we need to statistical analysis for a quality and performance about a load and an output voltage in product.

Wearable and ubiquitous micro systems will be greatly growing and their related devices should be self-powered in order to avoid the replacement of finite power sources, for example, by scavenging energy from the environment. With ever reducing power requirements of both analog and digital circuits, power scavenging approaches are becoming increasingly realistic. One approach is to drive an electromechanical converter from ambient motion or vibration. Vibration-driven generators based on electromagnetic, electrostatic and piezoelectric technologies have been demonstrated. Among various generator types proposed so far, piezoelectric generator possesses considerable potential in micro system. To overcome low mechanical-to- electric energy conversion, the piezoelectric device should activate in resonance mode in response to external vibration. Normally, the external vibration excretes at low frequency ranging 0.1 to 200 Hz, whereas the resonant frequencies of the devices are fixed as constant. Therefore, keeping their resonant mode in varying external vibration can be one of important points in enhancing the conversion efficiency. We investigated the possibility of use of multi-bender type piezoelectric devices. To match the external vibration frequency with the device resonant frequency, the various devices with different resonant frequency were chosen. Under an external vibration acceleration of 0.1G at 120 Hz, the device exhibited a peak-to-peak voltage of 2.8 V and a power of 0.5 mw in resonance mode.
