To understand the characteristics of low-level clouds (CLs), environmental variables are composited on each CL using individual surface observations and six-hourly upper-air meteorologies around the globe. Individual CLs has its own distinct environmental conditions. Over the eastern subtropical and western North Pacific Ocean in JJA, stratocumulus (CL5) has a colder sea surface temperature (SST), stronger and lower inversion, and more low-level cloud amount (LCA) than the climatology whereas cumulus (CL12) has the opposite characteristics. Over the eastern subtropical Pacific, CL5 and CL12 are influenced by cold and warm advection within the PBL, respectively but have similar cold advection over the western North Pacific. This indicates that the fundamental physical process distinguishing CL5 and CL12 is not the horizontal temperature advection but the interaction with the underlying sea surface, i.e., the deepening-decoupling of PBL and the positive feedback between shortwave radiation and SST. Over the western North Pacific during JJA, sky-obscuring fog (CL11), no low-level cloud (CL0), and fair weather stratus (CL6) are associated with anomalous warm advection, surface-based inversion, mean upward flow, and moist mid-troposphere with the strongest anomalies for CL11 followed by CL0. Over the western North Pacific during DJF, bad weather stratus (CL7) occurs in the warm front of the extratropical cyclone with anomalous upward flow while cumulonimbus (CL39) occurs on the rear side of the cold front with anomalous downward flow. Over the tropical oceans, CL7 has strong positive (negative) anomalies of temperature in the upper troposphere (PBL), relative humidity, and surface wind speed in association with the mesoscale convective system while CL12 has the opposite anomalies and CL39 is in between.

In this paper, a multiple comparison was proposed to minimize the amount of coolant. And new coolant level, called "low level", was suggested to show usefulness of multiple comparison for experiments. The amount of this levee is about 1/4 of conventional coolant amount-called "high level", and dry cutting is called "none level". Using these coolant levels, the cutting temperatures of each coolant level in turning process were analyzed by analysis of variance(ANOYA)-test and a multiple comparison. As the result of ANOVA-test, we have just known that the average of temperature of each coolant level is not equal. However by Tukey's HSD, one of multiple comparison. it was analyzed that the average of temperature of low level is similar to that of high levee and different from that of none level.erent from that of none level.
Objectives: To investigate the effect of mandibular repasitioning device on airway sige and airway collapsibility in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS). Methods: Cine CT with polysomnographic monitoring was performed during sleep in nine(OSAS) patients before and after manibular repositioning device(MRD) application. Axial CT images were obtained in five upper airway levels(retropalatal-high, retroalatal-low, retroglossal, epiglottis, and hypopharynx levels). In each airway level, one axial CT image was obtained during sleep apnea period and 10 serial axial CT images were scanned every 1 second during normal sleep breathing. After wearing MRD, all CT images were obtained by the same method. The cross-sectional areas of airway were measured by automatic tracing method. The changes of minimum airway size and maximum airway size after MRD were evaluated. The airway collapsibility was calculaed before and after MRD. Results: During sleep apnea, the airway of retropalatal-low level was the most frequently narrowest site. During normal sleep breahing the minimum airway size was increased significantly after MRD at retropalatal-low level(p=0.011). The mean airway collapsibility was the highest at retropalatal-low level. MRD decreased the airway collapsibility significantly at retropalatal-low level(p=0.021) and epiglottis level(p=0.038). Conclusions: The enlargement of the minimum airway size and decreased airway collapsibility may be the therapeutic mechanism of MRD in obstructive sleep apnea.
In this paper, a new scheme of a boosted voltage generator (BVG) is designed for low powr DRAM's. The designed BVG can supply stable $V_{pp}$ using a new circuit operting method. This method controls charge pumping capability by switching the supply voltage and ring oscillator frequency of driving circuit, so the BVG can save area and reduce the powr dissipation during $V_{pp}$ maintaining period. The charge pumping circuit of the BVG suffers no $V_{T}$ loss and is to be applicable to low-voltage DRAM's. $V_{pp}$ level detecting circuit can detect constant value of $V_{pp}$ against temperature variation. The level of $V_{pp}$ varies -0.55%~0.098% during its maintaining period. Charge pumping circuit can make $V_{pp}$ level up to 2.95V with $V_{cc}$ =1.5V. The degecting level of $V_{pp}$ level detecting circuit changes -0.34% ~ 0.01% as temperature varies from -20 to 80.deg. C. The powr dissipation during V.$_{pp}$ maintaining period is 4.1mW.W.1mW.

In this paepr, a new image segmentation method reducing efficiently contour information causing bottleneck problem at segmentatio-based very low bit rate codingis proposed, while preserving objective and subjective quality. It consists of 4-level hierarchical image segmentation based on mathematical morphology and 1-leve region merging structure using contast of two adjacent regions. For two adjacent region pairs at the fourth level included in each region of the thid level, contrast is calculated. Among the pairs of two adjacent regions with less value than threshold, two adjacent regions having the minimum contrast are merged first. After region merging, texture of the merged region is updated. The procedure is performed recursively for all the adjacent region pairs at the fourth level included in each region of the third level. Compared with the previous method, the objective and subjective image qualities are similar. But it reduces 46.65% texture information on the average by decreasing total region number to be tansmitted. Specially, it shows reduction of the 23.95% contour information of the average. Thus, it can improve efficiently the bottleneck problem at segementation-based very low bit rate coding.
The present study investigates the sloshing phenomena in a two-dimensional rectangular tank at a low filling level by using a level set method based on finite volume method. The code validations are performed by comparing between the present results and previous numerical and experimental results, which gives a good agreement. Various excitation frequencies and excitation amplitude of the 30% filling height tank have been considered in order to observe the dependence of the sloshing behavior on the excitation frequency and amplitude. Regardless of excitation amplitude, the maximum value of wall pressure occurs when the excitation frequency reaches the natural frequency. The time sequence of free surface and corresponding streamlines for excitation frequencies have been presented to analysis the variation of wall pressure according to time, which contributes to explain the double peaks in the time variation of wall pressure.
The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in the diet with the amount and the qualitative assessment of nutrient intakes by the economic level. Data from the 1998 Korean Health and Nutrition Survey were used. Using the poverty line based on the 1998 Korean minimum cost of living, Subjects (n = 10400) were classified into high class (36.1%), middle class (40.7%) and low class (23.1%). Chi-square-test and Analysis of Variance following Duncan's multiple range test were used to test the difference in nutrient intake pattern among three groups ($\alpha$ = 0.05). The amount of nutrient intake and nutrient intake adequacy were statistically different by the economic level (p<0.01). The ratio of energy intake from carbohydrate is higher than the criteria of WHO recommendation in all economic levels. Especially people in the low class depended much on the carbohydrate for the energy intake. The ratio of energy from the protein and fat are lower in the middle and low class than that of the high class. The Intake level of calcium and vitamin B$_2$ were lower than those of the Recommended Dietary intake level, regardless of economic status. It also showed differences in major food sources of nutrients by the economic level Consequently, it seems that the nutrition policy and program should be prepared according to their economic status. Also, there should more detailed studies to find out the nutrient intake pattern, their determinant, and health consequences.
The purpose of this study was to develop strategies and policies for smoking prevention that are tailored to the characteristics of different groups of smokers. The structured survey was conducted with regular smokers. The results were as follows: It has been demonstrated that Risk Perception Attitude framework can be used as a major research framework to predict behavioral changes related to the prevention of smoking. The smokers were divided into four attitude groups based on perceived risks and self-efficacy: indifference, proactive, avoidance, and responsive. The smoker groups showed significant differences in information seeking, information avoidance, prevention behavior and addiction degree. Especially, the difference in prevention behavior depended on the self-efficacy when the perceived risk level was high. Information avoidance was the lowest when the perceived risk level was high and the self-efficacy was low. Information seeking was lowest when the perceived risk level was low. When the level of self-efficacy was high, if the perceived risk level was high, prevention behavior was actively performed. Therefore, the self-efficacy was related to preventive behavior, and the perceived low-risk played a role in hindering information seeking. Smoking prevention strategies are important to raise awareness of the risk of smoking and to improve the positive willingness of smokers to quit smoking through self-efficacy.

Operating and decommissioning nuclear power plants generates radioactive waste. This radioactive waste can be categorized into several different levels, for example, low, intermediate, and high, according to the regulations. Currently, low and intermediate-level waste are stored in conventional 200-liter drums to be disposed. However, in Korea, the disposal of intermediate-level radioactive waste is virtually impossible as there are no available facilities. Furthermore, large-sized intermediate-level radioactive waste, such as reactor internals from decommissioning, need to be segmented into smaller sizes so they can be adequately stored in the conventional drums. This segmentation process requires additional costs and also produces secondary waste. Therefore, this paper suggests repurposing the no-longer-used spent nuclear fuel casks. The casks are larger in size than the conventional drums, thus requiring less segmentation of waste. Furthermore, the safety requirements of the spent nuclear fuel casks are severer than those of the drums. Hence, repurposed spent nuclear fuel casks could better address potential risks such as dropping, submerging, or a fire. In addition, the spent nuclear fuel casks need to be disposed in compliance with the regulations for low level radioactive waste. This cost may be avoided by repurposing the casks.
