감마선 처리에 따른 닭고기 가슴육의 냉장 저장 중 품질 특성 (Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Meat Quality in Chicken Breast during Cold Storage)

  • 닭고기 가슴육의 저장성을 증진시키기 위해 저수준의 감마선을(0.5, 1.0, 1.5kGy) 조사하여 냉장저장 중 품질변화와 미생물학적 특성을 조사하였다. pH는 저장 1일에 감마선 처리구가 대조구보다 낮은 수준을 보였고 육즙손실은 저장 1일과 3일에 0.5와 1.0 kGy 수준의 방사선 처리구에서 대조군보다 높은 수준을 나타내었다(p<0.05). 육색 중 L과 a값은 저장 1일에 1.0과 1.5 kGy 수준으로 조사 처리한 경우 증가하였으나 b값은 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 총균수는 감마선 처리구가 대조군보다 유의적으로 낮은 수준을 나타내었으며, 대장균과 대장균군은 방사선 처리구에서 모두 검출되지 않았다. 또한 단백질변성도와 지방산패도를 나타내는 VBN과 TBARS 값은 방사선 처리구에서 대조군보다 낮은 수준을 나타내었다. 결국 저수준의 방사선 처리가 닭고기 가슴육의 저장성을 증진시키기는 하지만 육즙손실 또한 증가시켜 추후 이를 감소시키기 위한 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

저전량 감마선 조사된 헤이워드 참다래의 품질 특성 (Quality of 'Hayward' Kiwifruit by Low-Dose Gamma Irradiation)

  • 참다래의 후숙 조절 및 해충 제거, 부패 지연 등의 유통 중 품질을 보존하기 위한 수단으로 감마선을 조사하여 실온에서 2주간 저장하면서 비타민 C, 수소공여능, 당, 유기산, 물성, 색도, 관능의 변화를 각각 조사하였다. 비타민 C와 수소 공여능은 후숙이 진행되면서 감소하였고, 감마선 조사에 따른 감소는 보이지 않았다. 총 당 및 환원당 함량은 저장 기간동안 증가하였으며, 감마선 조사에 따른 유의차를 나타내지 않았다. 유기산 함량은 저장 초기 감마선 조사에 의해 유의적으로 감소하였으며, 저장 기간 동안 모든 처리구에서 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 경도는 감마선 조사선량의 증가 및 저장 기간이 증가할수록 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 색도 변화에 있어서는 저장 초기 감마선 조사에 의해 명도 및 적색도가 증가하는 경향을 보였으나, 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 관능검사에서는 저장 초기 전반적으로 비조사구가 조사구에 비해 높은 평가를 나타내었으나, 저장 기간 동안 조사구에서 색을 제외한 향, 맛, 질감, 그리고 전체적인 만족도에서 더 좋다는 평가를 받았다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때 참다래에 대한 저선량 감마선 조사 처리는 참다래의 이화학적, 관능적 품질 변화 없이 유통 중 품질 보존에 이용할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

방사선 조사 마우스에서 학습기억 장애에 대한 홍삼의 효과 (Effect of Red Ginseng on Radiation-induced Learning and Memory Impairment in Mouse)

  • Previous studies suggest that even low-dose irradiation can lead to progressive cognitive decline and memory deficits, which implicates, in part, hippocampal dysfunction in both humans and experimental animals. In this study, whether red ginseng (RG) could attenuate memory impairment was investigated through a passive-avoidance and object recognition memory test, as well as the suppression of hippocampal neurogenesis, using the TUNEL assay and immunohistochemical detection with markers of neurogenesis (Ki-67 and doublecortin (DCX)) in adult mice treated with a relatively low-dose exposure to gamma radiation (0.5 or 2.0 Gy). RG was administered intraperitonially at a dosage of 50 mg/kg of body weight, at 36 and 12 h pre-irradiation and at 30 minutes post-irradiation, or orally at a dosage of 250 mg! kg of body weight/day for seven days before autopsy. In the passive-avoidance and object recognition memory test, the mice that were trained for one day after acute irradiation (2 Gy) showed significant memory deficits compared with the sham controls. The number of TUNEL-positive apoptotic nuclei in the dentate gyrus (DG) was increased 12 h after irradiation. In addition, the number of Ki-67- and DCX-positive cells was significantly decreased. RG treatment prior to irradiation attenuated the memory defect and blocked apoptotic death as well as a decrease in the Ki-67- and DCX-positive cells. RG may attenuate memory defect in a relatively low-dose exposure to radiation in adult mice, possibly by inhibiting the detrimental effect of irradiation on hippocampal neurogenesis.

실험적 간 발암모델에서 감마선 조사 돼지고기 섭취가 전암성병변의 생성, 약물대사 효소계 및 소포체 막 안정성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of $\Upsilon$-Irradiated Pork Feeding on Preneoplastic Hepatic Lesion, Cytochrome P450 System and Microsome Glucose 6-Phosphatase Activity in Rat Hepatocarcinogenesis)

  • This study was done to investigate effects of ${\gamma}$-irradiated pork feeding on the formation of glutathione S-transferase placental form positive (GST-P$^{+}$) foci, lipid peroxidation, cytochrome P450 system and microsomal glucose 6-phosphatase activity in diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-initiated rat hepatocarcinogenesis. Weaning Sprague-Dawley male rats were fed the diet containing ${\gamma}$-irradiated ground pork at the dose of 0, 3, 10, 30 kGy as a 20% of protein source for 8 weeks. One week after feeding, rats were intraperitoneally injected twice with a dose of DEN (50 mg/kg BW). As a promote.,0.05%phenobarbital was fed in drinking water from one week after DEN treatment until the end of experiment. At the end of 8th week, rats were sacrificed and hepatic GST-P$^{+}$ foci, microsomal malondialdehyde (MDA) and conjugated diene contents were determined. In addition, cytochrome P450 content and the activities of NADPH cytochrome P450 reductase and glucose 6-phosphatase were also measured. There was no significant effect by gamma irradiation on microsomal MDA content, conjugated diene, cytochrome P450 content and activities of NADPH cytochrome P450 reductase and glucose 6-phosphatase. However with DEN treatment, microsomal MDA content showed a increasing tendency. Cytochrome P450 content was also significantly increased while microsomal glucose 6-phophatase activity was significantly decreased with DEN treatment. However the activity of NADPH cytochrome P450 reductase was not affected. An interesting finding in this study was that the number and area of hepatic GST-P$^{+}$ foci of rats fed gamma irradiated pork were tended to be decreased by high dose of irradiation, but were not significantly different. These results might imply that the consumption of low dose of gamma irradiated pork does not affect the formation of hepatic GST-P$^{+}$ foci and lipid peroxide and membrane stability.ability.

인체 말초 혈액 림프구에서 저선량 방사선 조사에 의해 유도되는 적응 반응 (Adaptive Response Induced by Low Dose Ionizing Radiation in Human Lymphocytes)

  • 인체 말초 혈액 림프구에서 저선량의 감마선에 의해 유도되는 적응 반응을 관찰하였다. 인체 림프구를 저선량의 감마선(priming dose 0.01Gy) 을 조사한 후 여러 시간 간격 후 고선량 (challenging dose, 1.5Gy) 을 조사하였다. 저선량을 미리 조사한 림프구와 조사하지 않은 림프구에서 발생된 미세핵의 빈도를 계수하였다. 비세핵 발생 빈도는 저선량 조사 4시간 후 고선량을 조사하였을 때 최대 감소치를 보였다. 저선량과 고선량 조사 시간차가 7시간 또는 20시간이었을 때 미세핵 발생 빈도는 약간 감소하였으나 유의성은 없었다. 본 연구에서는 $G_0$상태의 세포주기에서 저선량을 조사하였을 경우 적응 반응이 나타나는 것이 관찰 되었다. 미세핵 분석법은 실험 방법이 비교적 간단하고, 기타 염색체 분석법에 비하여 빠른 시간내 결과를 도출 할 수 있어 추후 방사선에 대한 적응 반응의 연구에 유용한 지표가 될 수 있을 것이다.

CHANGES IN BODY AND ORGAN WEIGHTS, HEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS, AND FREQUENCY OF MICRONUCLEI IN THE PERIPHERAL BLOOD ERYTHROCYTES OF ICR MICE EXPOSED TO LOW-DOSE-RATE $\gamma$-RADIATION

  • We exposed ICR mice to low-dose (0.2 Gy) and low-dose-rate (0.7 mGy/h) $\gamma$-radiation ($^{137}Cs$) in the Low-dose-rate Irradiation Facility at the Radiation Health Research Institute to evaluate systemic effects of low-dose radiation. We compared the body and organ weights, number of blood cells (white and red blood cells and platelets), levels of biochemical markers in serum, and frequency of micronuclei in polychromatic erythrocytes between low-dose irradiated and non-irradiated control mice. The ICR mice irradiated with total doses of 0.2 and 2 Gy showed no changes in body and organ weights, number of blood cells (white and red blood cells), or frequency of micronuclei in the polychromatic erythrocytes of peripheral blood. However, the number of platelets (P = 0.002) and the liver weight (P < 0.01) were significantly increased in mice exposed to 0.2 and 2 Gy, respectively. These results suggest that a low-dose-rate of 0.7 mGy/h does not induce systemic damage. This dose promotes hematopoiesis in the bone marrow microenvironment and the proliferation of liver cells. In the future, the molecular biological effects of lower doses and dose rates need to be evaluated.

하수처리장 방류수 색도 제거에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Color Removal in the Secondary Effluent)

  • A study on the color removal by irradiation of ${\gamma}-ray$ was carried out to reclaim the secondary effluent for the purpose of industrial water. Coagulation, ozone and ion exchange methods were compared. It could know that irradiation method was the most effective in color removal. The color was removed by 87.5% at 0.5 Mrad and it was increase with dose. High removal efficiency could be obtained in low pH and low concentration of $CO3^{-2}$. This process can be applied to the treatment of secondary effluent and is considered to be one of the most useful tertiary treatment.

감마선 조사 마우스에서 녹차 및 분획의 방사선 장해 경감 효과 (The radioprotective effects of green tea and its fractions in Gamma-irradiated mice)

  • We investigated the effect of green tea and its fractions of alcohol and polysaccharide on jejunal crypt survival, endogenous spleen colony formation, and apoptosis in jejunal crypt cells of mice irradiated with high and low dose of gamma-irradiation. Jejunal crypts were protected by pretreatment of green tea (i.p.: 50 mg/kg of body weight, at 12 and 36 hours before irradiation., p.o.: 1.25% water extract, for 7days before irradiation, p<0.01) and alcohol and polysaccharide fractions showed no significant modifying effects. Green tea and its fractions administration before irradiation (i.p. at 12 and 36hours before irradiation) resulted in an increase of the formation of endogenous spleen colony (p<0.05). The frequency of radiation-induced apoptosis in intestinal crypt cells was also reduced by pretreatment of green tea (i.p. at 12 and 36 hours before irradiation, p<0.05., p.o. for 7days before irradiation, p<0.001) and its fractions (p<0.001). These results indicated that green tea might be a useful radioprotector, especially since it is a relatively nontoxic natural product. Further studies are needed to characterize better the promotion nature of green tea and its components.

Co60 Gamma-Ray Effects on the DAC-7512E 12-Bit Serial Digital to Analog Converter for Space Power Applications

  • The DAC-7512E is a 12-bit digital to analog converter that is low power and a single package with internal buffers. The DAC-7512E takes up minimal PCB area for applications of space power electronics design. The spacecraft mass is a crucial point considering spacecraft launch into space. Therefore, we have performed a TID test for the DAC-7512E 12-bit serial input digital to analog converter to reduce the spacecraft mass by using a low-level Gamma-ray irradiator with $Co^{60}$ gamma-ray sources. The irradiation with $Co^{60}$ gamma-rays was carried out at doses from 0 krad to 100 krad to check the error status of the device in terms of current, voltage and bit error status during conversion. The DAC-7512E 12-bit serial digital to analog converter should work properly from 0 krad to 30 krad without any error.

Development of Ready-to-Eat Bulgogi Sauce with No Change of Sensory Properties after High-Dose Irradiation

  • Viscosity is critically important for bulgogi sauce. However, exposure to irradiation may decrease the rheological properties of bulgogi sauce. This study was conducted to compare the effects of gamma irradiation (0-9 kGy) on viscosity, molecular weight, pH, reducing end level, and water solubility of xanthan gum, guar gum, and locust bean gum as thickening agents/stabilizers in bulgogi sauce. The physicochemical properties of all samples changed (p<0.05) from 3965 to 0 cP (viscosity), from 6048 to 28 kDa (molecular weight), from 5.79 to 4.62 (pH), from 0.13 mg/mL to 1.72 mg/mL (reducing end level), and from 6% to 87% (water solubility) following gamma irradiation. Viscosity after irradiation was most stable (p<0.05) in xanthan gum (from 1249 to 92 cP) compared with guar gum (from 3965 to 0 cP) and locust bean gum (from 1631 to 0 cP). The sensory properties (texture and taste) of bulgogi sauce prepared with xanthan gum (1%, w/w) were highly maintained (about 7.0-5.0) after high-dose irradiation of up to 40 kGy. These results indicate that xanthan gum can be effectively used as a thickening agent/stabilizer in bulgogi sauce, which had low viscosity after irradiation.
