Water quality is crucial for human health and the environment. Accurate measurement of the quantity of organic carbon in water is essential for water quality evaluation, identification of water pollution sources, and appropriate implementation of water treatment measures. Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis is an important tool for this purpose. Although other methods, such as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) are also used to measure organic carbon in water, they have limitations that make TOC analysis a more favorable option in certain situations. For example, COD requires the use of toxic chemicals, and BOD is time-consuming and can produce inconsistent and unreliable results. In contrast, TOC analysis is rapid and reliable, providing accurate measurements of organic carbon content in water. However, common methods for TOC analysis can be complex and energy-intensive because of the use of high-temperature heaters for liquid-to-gas phase transitions and the use of acid, which present safety risks. This study focuses on a TOC analysis method using TiO2 photocatalysis, which has several advantages over conventional TOC analysis methods, including its low cost and easy maintenance. For TiO2, rutile and anatase powders are mixed with an inorganic binder and spray-coated onto a glass fiber substrate. The TiO2 powder and inorganic binder solutions are adjusted to optimize the photocatalytic reaction performance. The TiO2 photocatalysis method is a simple and low-power approach to TOC analysis, making it a promising alternative to commonly used TOC analysis methods. This study aims to contribute to the development of more efficient and cost-effective approaches for water quality analysis and management by exploring the effectiveness and reliability of the developed equipment.
Recently, Fiber Reinforced Polymers(FRP) has been emerged as an alternative material to solve the corrosion of steel reinforcement in reinforced concrete structures. FRP exhibits higher specific strength and lower weight compared to steel reinforcement. Moreover, good resistance to corrosion of the FRP may be useful in aggressive environments causing deterioration such as chloride environment. However, causes for higher initial cost of FRP than that of steel, little information on the long-term behavior of FRP, and brittle failure make the efforts to apply FRP in civil structures slow. Glass fiber among the fibers used to manufacture FRP can be seen as the most beneficial material with regard to initial costs. But its low elastic modulus, which attains barely a quarter of steel, nay thus lead to excessive deflections when used as reinforcement for flexural members. This research was carried out on the tensile properties of hybrid rods made with glass and carbon fibers to improve those of FRP rod made with glass fiber. Parameters were resin type and the arrangement of glass and carbon fibers. The tensile properties of hybrid rods were compared with those of rods manufactured with only glass or carbon fibers. The results indicated that the tensile properties of hybrid rod were good when the carbon fiber was arranged in the core.

Biocomposites were fabricated with biodegradable polymers and natural fibers. Biocomposites have benefits of low cost, low density, and biodegradability over inorganic fiber composite, and give comparable strength properties. Hydrophobic polymer used for sizing in paper industry, AKD (Akenyl Keten Dimer), was applied to natural fibers, red algae fibers (RAF) in this study, to make fiber surfaces more compatible to hydrophobic nature of matrix polymers. Composites with RAF, kenaf, glass fibers, and carbon fibers have been fabricated by a compression molding method and their thermo-mechanical properties have been studied. Also, the thermal dimensional stability test was done from at 30 to $100^{\circ}C$. The storage moduli and the thermo-mechanical stabilities of polypropylene and poly lactic acid based biocomposites were improved by reinforcing with the RAF and much more with AKD treated fibers. Dimensional stability of biocomposite was also markedly improved by AKD pretrement on RAF.

Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) has revolutionized the fabrications of electronics, photonics, optical and biological devices. Among all the NIL processes, roll-to-roll nanoimprinting is regarded best for having the attributes of low cost, continuous, simple, and energy-efficient process for nanoscale device fabrication. However, large-area printing is limited by the master mold deformation. In this study, a finite element model (FEM) has been constructed to assess the deformation of the roll mold adhesively wrapped on the carbon fiber reinforced material (CFRP) base roll. This study also optimizes the deformations in the metallic roll mold with respect to nip-forces applied in the printing process of nano-fabrication on large scale. The numerical simulations were also conducted to evaluate the deflection in roll mold assembly due to gravity. The results have shown decreasing trend of the deformation with decreasing nip-force. Also, pressure uniformity of about 40% has been optimized by using the current numerical model along with an acceptable deflection value in the vertical axis due to gravity.
In global competition manufacturing companies have to produce modern, new constructions from advanced materials in order to increase competitiveness. The aim of my research was to develop a new composite cellular plate structure, which can be primarily used for structural elements of road, rail, water and air transport vehicles (e.g. vehicle bodies, ship floors). The new structure is novel and innovative, because all materials of the components of the newly developed structure are composites (laminated Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) deck plates with pultruded Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) stiffeners), furthermore combines the characteristics of sandwich and cellular plate structures. The material of the structure is much more advantageous than traditional steel materials, due mainly to its low density, resulting in weight savings, causing lower fuel consumption and less environmental damage. In the study the optimal construction of a given geometry of a structural element of a road truck trailer body was defined by single- and multi-objective optimization (minimal cost and weight). During the single-objective optimization the Flexible Tolerance Optimization method, while during the multi-objective optimization the Particle Swarm Optimization method were used. Seven design constraints were considered: maximum deflection of the structure, buckling of the composite plates, buckling of the stiffeners, stress in the composite plates, stress in the stiffeners, eigenfrequency of the structure, size constraint for design variables. It was confirmed that the developed structure can be used principally as structural elements of transport vehicles and unit load devices (containers) and can be applied also in building construction.

Screw rotors are core parts of screw type air compressors, compressors in refrigerating machines and super chargers of automobiles etc. They are composed of a female and a male rotors which have complex section profiles and helically swept geometry. Screw type compressors have advantages of low noise, high efficiency, less needs in maintenance etc. Usually, machining process of screw rotors requires long machining time using CNC machine designed only for screw rotors, which increase the cost of production. In this work, the screw rotors for air-compressors were manufactured with fiber reinforced epoxy composite materials by resin transfer molding process. The mold for the RTM process was made of aluminum and silicon rubber and was designed for release of helical shape products. Composite screw rotors, manufactured by RTM process, have advantages of lightweight, less cost of production, good characteristics of vibration etc.

In general solid propulsion offers cost effective, large thrust capabilities comparing to the liquid propulsion which offers high specific impulse and restart capabilities. Therefore solid propulsion is well fitted for the first stage and boosters. BBL approach has been studied for the launch vehicle because of cost effectiveness, limited development time and low risk. Using of the carbon fiber epoxy resin in the solid rocket motor case is expanded, and specially high strength fibers are more attracted since its inert mass reduction.
To enhance cable stiffness, this paper proposed a combined application of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) and steel materials, resulting in a novel type of hybrid stay cable system especially for the cable-stayed bridges with main span lengths of 1400~2800 m. In this combination, CFRP materials can conserve all their advantages such as light weight and high strength; while steel materials help increase the equivalent stiffness to compensate for the low elastic modulus of CFRP materials. An increase of the equivalent stiffness of the hybrid stay cable system could be further obtained with a reasonable increase of its safety factor. Following this concept, a series of parametric studies for the hybrid stay cable system with the consideration of stiffness and cost were carried out. Three design strategies/criteria, namely, best equivalent stiffness with a given safety factor, highest ratio of equivalent stiffness to material cost with a given safety factor, and best equivalent stiffness under a given cost were proposed from the stiffness and cost viewpoints. Finally, a comprehensive design procedure following the proposed design strategies was suggested. It was shown that the proposed hybrid stay cable system could be a good alternative to the pure CFRP or traditional steel stay cables in the future applications of super long span bridges.

The deck floor of a the cargo truck becomesis damaged and aged due to the continuous loading of the loading cargo and external environmental factors. Floor boards made of wood and metal are often used. In the case of wood, the cost is high due to the use of imported wood, and the strength is easily deterioratesd due to environmental factors. In the case of metal materials, the durability is higher than that of wood, but problems are raised due to the effect of major factors that hinder the weight reduction, and the effects of corrosion. In order to replace this stucturestructural design, this study proposed a wood fiber composite using natural raw materials. Woody composites are being used as environmentally and friendly exterior materials with the combined advantages of plastic, and wood,; low cost and low density. However, due to the nature of the woody composites, the properties are differentdiffer depending on the contents of the matrix, reinforcing agent, additives, compatibilizer, etc. In this study, we investigate these problems through analysis of the microstructure and mechanical properties according to proper content and injection molding conditions. As a result, it is considered that the wood deck composite can replaced the current Deck Floor Boardreplace current deck floor boards through continuous continued research and results of this study.
This study was conducted to evaluate desorption efficiencies accuracy and precision by $CS_2$ and thermal desorption method for polar and non-polar organic solvents collected on activated carbon(AC), activated carbon fiber(ACF), carbosieve SIII, materials tested were Methyl alcohol, n-Hexane, Benzene, Trichloroethylene, Methyl isobutyl ketone and methyl cellosolve acetate and six different concentration levels of samples were made. The results were as follows ; 1. Accuracy on kind adsorbent and desorption method was low. In case of $CS_2$ desorption solvent, Overall B and Overall CV on AC and ACF were 43% and 6.63%, respectively. In case of thermal desorption method, accuracy of thermal desorption method appeared higher than solvent desorption method by AC 18.0%, 3.54%, ACF 2.6%, 2.57%, Carbosieve SIII 13.7% and 1.97%, respectively. 2. In the concentration level III, accuracy of thermal desorption method on adsorbent was in order as follow ; ACF > Carbosieve SIII > AC in the methyl alcohol and Carbosieve SIII > ACF > AC in the rest of them all subject material and Concentration levels showed good precision at EPA recommend standard (${\leq}{\;}30%$) 3. DEs by type of organic solvent adsorbent and desorption method are as follows ; In the case that desorption solvent is $CS_2$, DE of Methyl alcohol is AC 47.5%, DE of all materials is ACF about 50%. In the case of thermal desorption method, DE of Methyl alcohol is AC 82.0%, ACF 97.4%, Carbosieve SIII 86.3%. DE of the later case is prominently improved more than one of former. In particular, Except that DE of EGMEA is ACF 88.5%, DE of the rest of it is more than 95% which is recommend standard MDHS 72. With the result of this study, in order to measure various organic solvent occurring from the working environment, in the case of thermal desorption method, we can get the accurate exposure assessment, reduce the cost, and use ACF as thermal desorption sorbent which available with easy.
