  • There is ongoing research to develop lithium ion batteries as sustainable energy sources. Because of safety problems, solid state batteries, where electrolytes are replaced with solids, are attracting attention. Sulfide electrolytes, with a high ion conductivity of 10-3 S/cm or more, have the highest potential performance, but the price of the main materials is high. This study investigated lithium hydride materials, which offer economic advantages and low density. To analyze the change in ion conductivity in polymer electrolyte composites, PVDF, a representative polymer substance was used at a certain mass ratio. XRD, SEM, and BET were performed for metallurgical analyses of the materials, and ion conductivity was calculated through the EIS method. In addition, thermal conductivity was measured to analyze thermal stability, which is a major parameter of lithium ion batteries. As a result, the ion conductivity of LiH was found to be 10-6 S/cm, and the ion conductivity further decreased as the PVDF ratio increased when the composite was formed.

  • This study presents the physical and engineering characteristics of soil-bentonite admixed liner in I landfill. Main focus was the hydraulic conductivity of compacted soil-bentonite admixed and mechanisms governing low permeable properties of the admixed liner. Laboratory and field tests such as compaction, hydraulic conductivity, density, water content for the soil-bentonite admixed liner were carried out. Quality control criteria for the best construction of the soil-bentonite admixed liner was suggested through laboratory and field test results.

  • Polymer electrolytes - solid polymeric membranes with dissolved salts - are being intensively studied for use in all-solid-state lithium-metal-polymer consumer electronic device. The low ionic conductivity at room temperature of existing polymer electrolytes, however, has seriously hindered the development of such batteries for many applications. The incorporation of salts molten at room temperature (room temperature ionic liquids or RTILs) into polymer electrolytes may be the necessary solution to overcoming the inherent ionic conductivity limitations of 'dry' polymer electrolytes.

Effect of Li on the Ionic Conductivity and Leaching in Simulated Borosilicate Glasses

  • The ionic conductivity of several simulated borosilicate glasses was measured in the temperature range 150-600℃ in air. Leaching experiments were also carried out using Soxhlet apparatus at 100 ℃ for 7 days. As Li+ ion increased in simulated borosilicate glasses, both the ionic conductivity and leaching rate increased. The activation energy in the ionic conduction of the simulated borosilicate glasses was 1.38-1.45 eV in the high temperature region and 0.93-1.1 eV in the low temperature region.

  • In order to develop glass formulations for vitrifying Low-and Intermediate-Level radioactive Wastes (LILW) from nuclear power plants of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) Co., Ltd., promising glass formulations were selected based on glass property model predictions for viscosity, electrical conductivity and leach resistance. Laboratory measurements were conducted to verify the model predictions. Based on the results, the models for electrical conductivity, US DOE 7-day Product Consistency Test (PCT) elemental release, and pH of PCT leachate are accurate for the LILW glass formulations. However, the model for viscosity was able to provide only qualitative results. A leachate conductivity test was conducted on several samples to estimate glass leach resistance. Test results from the leachate conductivity test were useful for comparison before PCT elemental release results were available. A glass formulation K11A meets all the KHNP glass property constraints, and use of this glass formulation on the pilot scale is recommended. Glass formulations K12A, K12B, and K12E meet nearly all of the processing constraints and may be suitable for additional testing. Based on the comparison between the measured and predicted glass properties, existing glass property models may be used to assist with the LILW glass formulation development.

국내의 주요 지역에서 밀폐형 열교환기의 열전도도 측정 (Measurements of In-situ Thermal Conductivity of Closed Type Ground Heat Exchanger in Korea)

  • This study was performed to acquire the reliable in-situ thermal conductivity of closed type ground heat exchanger used in ground source heat pump. We selected four sites(Cheonan, Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju) which are central area of South Korea. Test results show that the effective thermal conductivities are 2.33 W/m$^{\circ}C$, 2.50 W/m$^{\circ}C$, 2.75 W/m$^{\circ}C$ and 2.86 W/m$^{\circ}C$. From this data, we can see that thermal conductivity varies about the range of 23% with the sites. Also, thermal conductivity increases up to 20% by changing grouting material from low salica sand to high one.

나노 유체(Nanofluids)의 열전도도 (Thermal Conductivities of Nanofluids)

  • Nanofluids have anomalously high thermal conductivities at very low fraction, strongly temperature-dependent and size-dependent conductivities, and three-fold higher critical heat flux than that of base fluids. Traditional conductivity theories such as the Maxwell or other macroscale approaches cannot explain why nanofluids have these intriguing features. So in this paper, we devise a theoretical model that accounts for the fundamental role of dynamic nanoparticles in nanofluids. The proposed model not only captures the concentration and temperature-dependent conductivity, but also predicts strongly size-dependent conductivity. Furthermore, we physically explain the new phenomena for nanofluids. In addition, based on a proposed model, the effects of various parameters such as the ratio of thermal conductivity of nanofluids to that of a base fluid, volume fraction, nanoparticle size, and temperature on the thermal conductivities of nanofluids are investigated.

  • Conductivity and transmittancy of ZnO is very excellent and the price is low. So the study of transparent electrode materials and electromagnetic wave shielding wall is actively in progress. We add $Al_2O_3$(0.0, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0wt%) to ZnO and observe microscopic structure and conductivity. For XRD observation, Al peak of AZO is increased by increasing the amount of $Al_2O_3$. We observe that the size of grain is reduced by increasing the liquid phase of grain boundary to SEM observation. Conductivity of AZO is increased by increasing the amount of $Al_2O_3$. We confirm the application possibility of the materials for electromagnetic wave reflection materials.

  • In recent research in this emerging and latent heat storage material features an innovative temperature - controlled Phase Change Materials to evaluate the superior thermal performance would like to calculate the thermal conductivity. Specified in KS F 4040 test specimen dimensions were equivalent in specifications, test methods according to KS L 9016 was an experiment in progress. As a result, the thermal conductivity of plain cement mortar mixed with more PCM came out with low thermal conductivity of mortar, thermal performance was excellent.

Grain Boundary Protonic Conductivity in Highly Dense Nano-crystalline Y-doped BaZrO3

  • We have investigated protonic conduction in highly dense (>98%) polycrystalline Y-doepd $BaZrO_3$ (BYZ) ceramic with an average grain size of ~85 nm. It is observed that the protonic conductivity across the grain boundaries in this nano-crystallilne BYZ (n-BYZ) is significantly higher than the microcrystalline counterpart. Such a remarkable enhancement in grain boundary conductivity results in high overall conductivity that may allow this chemically stable protonic conductor to serve as a solid electrolyte for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cell applications.
