An IP address lookup scheme has become a critical issue increasingly for high-speed networking techniques due to the advent of IPv6 based on 128bit. In this paper, a novel global IPv6 unicast address lookup scheme is proposed for next generation internet routers. The proposed scheme perform a variable multiple hashing based on prefix grouping. Accordingly, it should not only minimize overflows with the proper number of memory modules, but also reduce a memory size required to organize forwarding tables. It has the fast building and searching mechanisms for forwarding tables during only a single memory access. Besides, it is easy to update forwarding tables incrementally. In the simulation using CERNET routing data as a 6bone test phase, we compared the proposed scheme with a similar scheme using a uniform multiple hashing. As a result, we verified that the number of overflows is reduced by 50% and the size of memory for forwarding tables is shrunken by 15% with 8 tables.
Various algorithms and architectures for IP address lookup have been studied to improve forwarding performance in the Internet routers. Previous IP address lookup architecture using Bloom filter requires a separate Bloom filter as well as a separate hash table in each prefix length, and hence it is not efficient in implementation complexity. To reduce the number of hash tables, it applies controlled prefix expansion, but prefix duplication is inevitable in the controlled prefix expansion. Previous parallel multiple-hashing architecture shows very good search performance since it performs parallel search on tables constructed in each prefix length. However, it also has high implementation complexity because of the parallel search structure. In this paper, we propose a new IP address lookup architecture using all-length Bloom filter and all-length multiple hash table, in which various length prefixes are accomodated in a single Bloom filter and a single multiple hash table. Hence the proposed architecture is very good in terms of implementation complexity as well as search performance. Simulation results using actual backbone routing tables which have $15000{\sim}220000$ prefixes show that the proposed architecture requires 1.04-1.17 memory accesses in average for an IP address lookup.
This paper describes a new IP address lookup algorithm using a binary search on multiple balanced trees stored in one memory. The proposed scheme has 3 different tables; a range table, a main table, and multiple sub-tables. The range table includes $2^8$ entries of 22 bits wide. Each of the main table and sub-table entries is composed of fields for a prefix, a prefix length, the number of sub-table entries, a sub-table pointer, and a forwarding RAM pointer. Binary searches are performed in the main table and the multiple sub-tables in sequence. Address lookups in our proposed scheme are achieved by memory access times of 11 in average, 1 in minimum, and 24 in maximum using 267 Kbytes of memory for 38.000 prefixes. Hence the forwarding table of the proposed scheme is stored into L2 cache, and the address lookup algorithm is implemented in software running on general purpose processor. Since the proposed scheme only depends on the number of prefixes not the length of prefixes, it is easily scaled to IPv6.

Router main task is to provide routing of Internet Protocol (IP) packets. Routing is achieved with help of the IP lookup. Router stores information about the networks and interfaces in data structures commonly called as routing tables. Comparison of IP from incoming packet with the IPs stored in routing table for the information about route is IP Lookup. IP lookup performs by longest IP prefix matching. The performance of the IP router is based on the speed of prefix matching. IP lookup is a major bottle neck in the performance of Router. Various algorithms and data structures are available for IP lookup. This paper is about reviewing various tree based structure and its performance evaluation.

Key-value stores proved its superiority by being applied to various NoSQL databases such as Redis, Memcached. Lookup performance is important because key-value store applications performs more lookup than insert operations in most environments. However, in traditional applications, lookup may be slow because hash tables are constructed out of linked-list. Therefore, cuckoo hashing has been getting attention from the academia for constant lookup time, and bucketized cuckoo hashing (BCH) has been proposed since it can achieve high load factor. In this paper, we introduce Sorting Cuckoo which inserts data using insertion sort in BCH structure. Sorting Cuckoo determines the existence of a key with a relatively small memory access because data are sorted in each buckets. In particular, the higher memory load factor, the better lookup performance than BCH's. Experimental results show that Sorting Cuckoo has smaller memory access than BCH's as many as about 19 million (25%) in 10 million negative lookup operations (key is not in the table), about 4 million times (10%) in 10 million positive lookup operations (where it is) with load factor 95%.
Since the development of the Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs), the distributed lookup services are one of the hot topics in the networking area. The main reason of this popularity is the simplicity of the lookup structure. However, the simple key based search mechanism makes the so called "keyword" based search difficult if not impossible. Thus, the applicability of the DHTs is limited to certain areas. In this paper. we find that DHTs can be used as the ubiquitous sensor network (USN) metadata lookup service across a large number of sensor networks. The popularity of the Ubiquitous Sensor Network has motivated the development of the USN middleware services for the sensor networks. One of the key functionalities of the USN middleware service is the lookup of the USN metadata, by which users get various information about the sensor network such as the type of the sensor networks and/or nodes, the residual of the batteries, the type of the sensor nodes. Traditional distributed hash table based lookup systems are good for one sensor network. However, as the number of sensor network increases, the need to integrate the lookup services of many autonomous sensor networks so that they can provide the users an integrated view of the entire sensor network. In this paper, we provide a hybrid lookup model, in which the autonomous lookup services are combined together and provide seamless services across the boundary of a single lookup services. We show that the hybrid model can provide far better lookup performance than a single lookup system.
The Internet is a packet switched network which offers best-effort service, but current IP network provide enhanced services such Quality of Services, Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, Distribute Firewall and IP Security Gateways. All such services need packet classification for determining the flow. The problem is performing scalable packet classification at wire speeds even as rule databases increase in size. Therefore, this research offer packet classification algorithm that increase classifier performance when working with enlarge rules database by rearrange rule structure into Bitmap Intersection Lookup (BIL) tables. It will use packet's header field for looking up BIL tables and take the result with intersection operation by logical AND. This approach will use simple algorithm and rule structure, it make classifier have high search speed and fast updates.

We present two techniques based on lookup tables to reduce complexity of the well-known Schnorr-Euchner (SE) sphere decoder (SD) without introducing performance degradation. By the aid of lookup tables, the computational loads caused by the SE enumeration and decision feedback are reduced at the cost of higher storage capacity. Simulation results are provided to verify performance and complexity of the proposed decoders.
