  • Continuous oil price rising and the regulation of carbon emmission makes companies to have higher competitiveness. because of this trend, companies are trying to establish and manage efficient logistics system to improve customer service and reduce cost, so more competitive logistics complex is needed. To construct this kind of logistics complex, proper policy and logistics system for transportation is necessary. Especially, efficient operation through establishing system of logistics at the complex is very important for low cost and environmental friendly point of view. So this paper presents logistics network operation model for efficient transportation, especially approaches the problem with Multi-Phase.

Reusable Network Model using a Modified Hybrid Genetic Algorithm in an Optimal Inventory Management Environment (최적 재고관리환경에서 개량형 하이브리드 유전알고리즘을 이용한 재사용 네트워크 모델)

  • The term 're-use' here signifies the re-use of end-of-life products without changing their form after they have been thoroughly inspected and cleaned. In the re-use network model, the distributor determines the product order quantity on the network through which new products are received from the suppliers or products are supplied to the customers through re-use of the recovered products. In this paper, we propose a reusable network model for reusable products that considers the total logistics cost from the forward logistics to the reverse logistics. We also propose a reusable network model that considers the processing and disposal costs for reuse in an optimal inventory management environment. The authors employe Genetic Algorithm (GA), which is one of the optimization techniques, to verify the validity of the proposed model. And in order to investigate the effect of the parameters on the solution, the priority-based GA (priGA) under three different parameters and the modified Hybrid GA (mhGA), in which parameters are adjusted for each generation, were applied to four examples with varying sizes in the simulation.

  • East Asia has played an important role in the economic and social development in the Asian pacific region and in the global arena. In the region the impact of companies centralizing their logistics activities around a few distribution centers has already led some leading ports such as Singapore, Hong Kong to transform and expand their functions and business activities to provide port users with value added logistics services. Other ports in the region also have an important part to play in the total logistics Chain. In these environments, the maritime activities of Jang BoGo, who was the maritime king of the commercial maritime empire in East Asia in the 9th century, give many implications to the international logistics network strategy that Korea has to take in order to become a power of International Logistics. Though the trading and economic environments at that time may be quite different from today, the super-national maritime management pattern that Jang Bo-go, founder of the Northeast Asian maritime trading kingdom devised, gives us many implications in the global trading and economic environments, in the respects of overseas direct investment and international logistics. Accordingly, the paper aims to examine the establishment of hub port in Northeast Asia, modelled after the maritime network management strategy of Jang BoGo.

Optimal Order Quantity Models for three types of reverse logistics networks in Product Recovery Environment

  • Due to limitation of resources and increasing concerns about environment, reverse logistics has received growing attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose three types of reverse logistics networks based on reuse of returnable containers, materials recycling process and remanufacturing for parts reuse. First, the sender in the re-usable item network supplies containers for the recipient and orders either new containers from external supplier or returnable containers cleaned from the container depot. Second, the recycling center in the proposed recycling network collects either end of life products from customer or faulty goods from manufacturer, collected products are dismantled into materials and materials go into recycling process. Finally, the manufacturer in the proposed remanufacturing network has two alternatives for supplying parts: either ordering the required parts to external supplier or overhauling disassembled parts and bringing them back 'as new' conditions. In this product recovery environment, we build optimal order quantity models to minimize the total logistics costs related to reverse logistics network. The validity of the proposed model is investigated through comprehensive computational experiments.

  • EPCglobal Network is based on the Electronic Product Code(EPC) and rapidly opening up to many enterprises that have close relationships with each other. Since a huge amount of logistics Information is distributed in the EPCglobal Network, it needs to manage them effectively. Global logistics companies and institutes are studying and setting up the standards about EPC Information Service(EPCIS), Object Name Service (ONS) and EPC Discovery Service(EPCDS) in the RFID and EPC-based logistics information network. In this paper, we propose expanded EPCIS and EPCDS that are satisfy EPCglobal standards and enable more effective logistics information management.

  • Many Firms consider the application of a cross-docking system to reduce inventory and lead-time. However, most studies mainly concentrate on the design of a cross-docking system. This study presents the method that selects the cross-docking center under the existing logistics network. Describing the operation environment to apply the cross-docking system, the selection criteria of the cross-docking center, and the main constraints of transportation planning under the environment of multi-level logistics network, we define the selection problem of the cross-docking center applied to a logistics field. We also define the simulation model that can analyze variously the cross-docking volume and develop the selection methodology of the cross-docking center. The simulation model presents the algorithm and influence factors of the cross-docking system, the decision criteria of the system, policy parameter, and input data. In addition, this study analyzes the effect of increasing the number of simultaneous receiving and shipping docks, and the efficiency of the overnight transportation and cross-docking by evaluating each scenario after simulating the scenarios with the practical data of the logistics field.

  • This study is to investigate global logistics strategies of Korean electronics companies. in terms of service parts. According to the survey, Korean electronics companies were pursuing multi-level global logistics network such as global, continental, national, regional and service center echelon for improving the efficiency of service parts global logistics. Especially there was a tendency of developing new continental distribution centers. And the companies were exploiting efficiency through inventory control by multi-level echelon, demand forecasting by the product life cycle and supply and service lead time management. But there were some insufficient factors for the efficiency of global logistics operation at the construction of worldwide real time logistics information system and pursuit of the efficiency on the whole network including subcontractors. For the future competitive advantage of the Korean electronics companies, the following are suggested: 1) the establishment of arranged logistics channel adjusting each company's global strategy, 2) the construction of worldwide real time logistics information system, 3) the reengineering of all logistics procedures such as order processing, shipping, inventory control, etc., 4) the enhancement of the ratio of the supply from the external companies and the internal manufacturing subsidiaries at each continent, 5) and the pursuit of operational internalization of external subcontractors.

International Logistics System is consisted of demand forecasting, order processing, packing, labeling, shipping documentation and consumer service into three distant phases of transaction, distribution and payment. International Logistics System can be done more efficiently and effectively by using Internet Logistics System. Therefore it is very important to implementing a efficient Internet Logistics System.

  • This paper outlines a plan to promote South Jeonnam region's logistics capability in connection with the regional logistics bases such as Gwangyang Port, Jangseong Integrated Freight Terminal, Mokpo Port and Muan International Airport. The capability of regional innovation bodies, and industrial innovation generally, needs to be improved by establishing a systematic regional innovation plan. Smaller import and export logistics bases, presently scattered in downtown Gwangju and its suburban area, need to be integrated as soon as possible, in advance of the completion of a traffic network connecting all of the triangle logistics bases. Moreover, plans to develop Muan International Airport to the status of a hub airport need to be established, and its function as an air freight terminal should be strengthened. Gwangyang Port and Mokpo Port should be developed as Korea's key harbors with international logistics bases the two ports, presently conducting simple cargo work, should be transformed into general logistics ports conducting logistics, assembling, trading, and international business by developing their surrounding areas.

  • The wave of 4PL added to strategic consulting based on new IT techniques, for example RFID, with logistics outsourcing through existing 3PL service is a great issue. It is also worthy of notice that EPCglobal network strengthen the role of 4PL. In conclusion, the 4PL system based on EPCglobal network will result in a good success, so it will raise a prestige of air cargo in Korea to a higher position. This study deals with the new logistics system, air cargo logistics system based on u-4PL system, RFID and EPCglobal network, that will bring many advantages.
