  • A numerical scheme based on a mode superposition method is presented for the dynamic response analysis of a top-tensioned riser (TTR) under sheared current loads. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the TTR have been calculated analytically for a beam with a slowly varying tension and pinned-pinned boundary conditions at the top and bottom ends. The lift coefficients and corresponding amplitudes used to estimate the vortex-induced modal force and damping for each mode were predicted via iterative calculations based on the input and output power balancing concept. Here, the power-in regions were controlled by the normal distribution function, for which the center was coincident with the lock -in location by local vortex-shedding, and the range was defined by the constant standard deviation for the reduced velocity by the local current speed. Finally, dynamic responses such as root-mean-squared displacement and stress were calculated using the mode superposition technique. In order to verify the presented scheme, a numerical calculation was performed for a TTR under an arbitrary linearly sheared current and linearly varying tension. A comparison with the results of the existing software showed that the presented scheme could give reliable and feasible solutions. Case studies were performed to investigate the effects of various current loads and tensions.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of circumferential location of local wall thinning defect on the collapse behavior of an elbow. Thus, the present study conducts three-dimensional finite element analysis on the 90-degree elbow containing a local wall thinning at intrados, crown and extrados of bend region and evaluates the collapse moment of wall thinned elbow under various thinning shapes and loading conditions. Combined internal pressure and bending moment are considered as an applied load. The internal pressure of $0\~20MPa$ and both closing and opening mode bending are employed. The results of analysis show that the reduction in collapse moment of the elbow by local wall thinning is more significant for a defect locating at crown than for a defect locating at intrados or at extrados. Also, the effect of internal pressure on the collapse moment of wall thinned elbow depends on the circumferential location of thinning defect and applied bending mode.

  • We propose a new mini-slot transmission scheme for a passive optical network (PON) in which each customer can be switched either to access mode or to internetworking mode dynamically. In this paper, we present the system implementation (called LAN-PON) as well as the performance of the proposed transmission scheme to illustrate its feasibility and benefits. A mini-slot scheme can rapidly reduce the queuing delay, which increases due to the flooding of the deflected packets in a deflection scheme. We evaluate the impact of mode switching time on the bandwidth gain (throughput) and delay of local area network (LAN) traffic in the LAN-PON with a mini-slot scheme. We also analyze a theoretical delay model of the proposed scheme. The simulation results demonstrate that switching time has an impact on LAN performance, and the average packet delay of the proposed scheme is significantly improved compared to that of the deflection scheme.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to construct the autonomous decentralized train traffic management structure using techniques of Autonomous Decentralized System. Currently, a method of train traffic control is making use of CTC(Centralized Traffic Control). Its operation method is divided into the remote mode and the local mode. The classified basis is according to the control authority of install signals in track side. In most cases, a large scale station is operated by the local mode. Because of dispatchers in center can not control the shunting works influence on the main route. In order to solve these problem s, we analyzed a current operation condition and system requirements. Moreover, this thesis is constructing autonomous decentralized train traffic management structure. Finally, this research proposed that interface with CTC and step-by-step construction.

  • This paper addresses the analysis and design of fuzzy control systems for a class of complex uncertain single-input single-output nonlinear systems. The proposed method represents the nonlinear system using a Takagi-Cugeno fuzzy model and construct a global fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controllers with a sliding mode controller. Unlike the commonly used parallel distributed compensation technique, we can design a global stable fuzzy controller without finding a common Lyapunov function for all local control systems, and can obtain good tracking performance by using sliding mode control theory. Furthermore, stability analysis is carried out not for the fuzzy model but for the real nonlinear system with uncertainties. Duffing forced oscillation sysmte is used as an example to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • This paper is concerned with stereo vision-based approach to detect obstacles and to generate the path of destination from the start. The hexapod robot in the experiment is cable of walking by legs and driving by wheels simultaneously. The hexapod robot operates under the driving mode normally, and it changes driving mode to walking mode to overcome obstacles using its legs. Disparity map, which is the correlation between two images taken by stereo camera, is employed for calculation of the distance between the robot and obstacles. When the obstacles information is extracted from the disparity map, the potential field algorithm is applied to create the obstacle-avoidance path. Simulator, based on OpenGL, is developed to generate the graphical path, and the experimental results are shown for the verification of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper analyse a operating characteristics when the Community Energy System (CES) is operated islanding mode. In the near future, CES might be one of major energy supply structures. The basic concept of CES is that it supplies electrical and thermal energy to the local customer loads through the islanded power network separated from the grid. The CES must be supplying local load with stable energy on the islanding mode, analysing necessary to thoroughly the operation feature. In order to show them, in this paper, we model the CES with 2.34 MVA DG and simulate the operating feature on the islanding mode of CES. The simulation results show that, in order to stability operate, the CES need the efficient load management and generation control schemes during the transition periods.

  • In this paper, we describe a design of a 128bit MRAM based on a new switching architecture which is Local Field Switching(LFS). LFS uses a local magnetic field generated by the current flowing through an MTJ. This mode reduces the writing current since small current can induce large magnetic field because of close distance between MTJ and the current. It also improves the cell selectivity over using conventional MTJ architecture because it doesn't need a digit line for writing. The MRAM has 1-Transistor 1-Magnetic Tunnel Junction (IT-1MTJ) memory cell structure and uses a bidirectional write driver, a mid-point reference cell block and a current mode sense amplifier. CMOS emulation cell is adopted as an LFS-MTJ cell to verify the operation of the circuit without the MTJ process. The memory circuit is fabricated using a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology with six layers o) metal and tested on custom board.

  • The failure mode of a pipe due to local wall thinning is increasingly more attention in the nuclear power plant industry. To assess the integrity of locally wall thinned pipe, it is necessary to perform many simulations under various conditions. Because the modeling for locally wall thinned elbow is more complicated than that of straight pipe the efficient modeling method for finite element analysis is necessary. In this study, the more simple efficient modeling method of three-dimensional finite element analysis for locally wall thinned elbow has been suggested and verified. And using the method, the failure mode of local wall thinned elbows that have different thinning lengths and circumferential angles is evaluated. From the results, we concluded that the collapse load of elbows has been decreased by the increase of wall thinning shape factors such as thinning lengths and circumferential angles.

  • In this study, we propose a new method to control both the beat clarity and beat period in a ring structure. An equivalent ring which satisfies the measured mode condition is determined by using the equivalent ring theory. Theoretical analysis and finite element analysis on the equivalent ring are performed to investigate the effect of the local structural modification on the beat clarity and beat period. Beat clarity and period are improved by attaching asymmetric mass or decreasing local thickness. Through the analysis on the equivalent ring, the proper position and the amount of the local variation are determined to satisfy the required clarity and period condition. All the analysis results are compared and verified by the experiment.
