SP test has been confirmed the availability, however the application of SP test is hampered because the relation of stress-strain and load-displacement is not determined definitely. This study suggested an evaluation technique of plastic flow characteristic for X20CrMoV121 steel weldment through inverse analysis using SP test and finite element analysis(FEA). From the result, good agreement was found in load-displacement curves obtained from SP test and FEA. Also, The behavior of load-displacement curve from FEA show a rule that load is increase with increasing K(strength coefficient) and displacement is increase with increasing n(work hardening index). From the inverse analysis, true stress-strain curve could be obtained for each local structure of weldment. And the CGHAZ and WM, which showed lower load- displacement behavior, have smaller work hardening index, while FGHAZ have the largest index.
Hollow structural section (HSS) columns have been increasingly popular due to their structural and architectural merits. However, practical difficulty lies in developing proper connections. The through-diaphragm connections are considered as suitable connection type that is widely adopted in Asian countries. However, the stress concentration occurs at the location connecting through-diaphragm and steel beam. Furthermore, the actual load path from the beam flange is not uniformly transferred to the HSS column as conventionally assumed. In this paper, tensile tests were further conducted on three additional specimens with beam flange plate to evaluate the load versus displacement response. The load-displacement curves, yield and ultimate capacity, ductility ratio were obtained. Furthermore, the strain development at different loading levels was discussed comprehensively. It is shown that the studied connection configuration significantly reduces the stress concentration. Meanwhile, simplified trilinear load-displacement analytical model for specimen under tensile load was presented. Good agreement was found between the theoretical and experimental results.

In this study, a small punch creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(10${\times}$10${\times}$0.5mm) is described to develop the new creep test method for high temperature structural materials. The SP-Creep test is applied to 2.25Cr-lMo(STBA24) steel which is widely used as boiler tube material. The test temperatures applied for the creep deformation of miniaturized specimens are between 550∼600$^{\circ}C$. The SP-Creep curves depend definitely on applied load and creep temperature, and show the three stages of creep behavior like in conventional uniaxial tensile creep curves. The load exponent of miniaturized specimen decreases with increasing test temperature, and its behavior is similar to stress exponent behavior of uniaxial creep test. The creep activation energy obtained from the relationship between SP-Creep rate and test temperature decreases as the applied load increases. A predicting equation or SP-Creep rate for 2.25Cr-lMo steel is suggested. and a good agreement between experimental and calculated data has been found.

This paper deals with dynamic tensile characteristics for the polypropylene used in an IP(Instrument Panel). The polypropylene is adopted in the dash board of a car, especially PAB(Passenger Air Bag) module. Its dynamic tensile characteristics are important because the PAB module undergoes high speed deformation during the airbag expansion. Since the operating temperature of a car varies from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ according to the specification, the dynamic tensile tests are performed at a low temperature($-30^{\circ}C$), the room temperature($21^{\circ}C$) and a high temperature($85^{\circ}C$). The tensile tests are carried out at strain rates of six intervals ranged from 0.001/sec to 100/sec in order to obtain the strain rate sensitivity. The flow stress decreases at the high temperature while the strain rate sensitivity increases. Tensile tests of polymers are rather tricky since polymer does not elongate uniformly right after the onset of yielding unlike the conventional steel. A new method is suggested to obtain the stress-strain curve accurately. A true stress-strain curve was estimated from modification of the nominal stress-strain curves obtained from the experiment. The modification was carried out with the help of an optimization scheme accompanied with finite element analysis of the tensile test with a special specimen. The optimization method provided excellent true stress-strain curves by enforcing the load response coincident with the experimental result. The material properties obtained from this paper will be useful to simulate the airbag expansion at the normal and harsh operating conditions.

A dynamic triaxial discrete element numerical model of lightweight soil was established using the discrete element method to study the microscopic mechanism of expanded polystyrene (EPS) particles in the soil under cyclic loading. The microscopic parameters of the discrete element model of the lightweight soil were calibrated depending on the dynamic triaxial test hysteresis curves. Based on the calibration results, the effects of the EPS particles volume ratio and amplitude on the contact force, displacement field, and velocity field of the lightweight soil under different accumulated strains were studied. The results showed that the hysteresis curves of lightweight soil exhibit nonlinearity, hysteresis, and strain accumulation. The strain accumulated in remolded soil is mainly tensile strain, and that in lightweight soil is mainly compressive strain. As the volume ratio of EPS particles increased, the contact force first increased and then decreased, and the displacement and velocity of the particles increased accordingly. With an increase in amplitude, the dynamic stress of the particle system increased, and the accumulation rate of the dynamic strain of the samples also increased. At 5% compressive strain, the contact force of the particles changed significantly and the number of particles deflected in the direction of velocity also increased considerably. These results indicated that the cemented structure of the lightweight soil began to fail at a compressive strain of 5%. Thus, a compressive strain of 5% is more reasonable than the dynamic strength failure standard of lightweight soil.
Quantitatively modeling and propagating all sources of uncertainty stand at the core of seismic fragility assessment of structures. This paper investigates the effects of various sources of uncertainty on seismic responses and seismic fragility estimates of single-layer reticulated domes. Sensitivity analyses are performed to examine the sensitivity of typical seismic responses to uncertainties in structural modeling parameters, and the results suggest that the variability in structural damping, yielding strength, steel ultimate strain, dead load and snow load has significant effects on the seismic responses, and these five parameters should be taken as random variables in the seismic fragility assessment. Based on this, fragility estimates and fragility curves incorporating different levels of uncertainty are obtained on the basis of the results of incremental dynamic analyses on the corresponding set of 40 sample models generated by Latin Hypercube Sampling method. The comparisons of these fragility curves illustrate that, the inclusion of only ground motion uncertainty is inappropriate and inadequate, and the appropriate way is incorporating the variability in the five identified structural modeling parameters as well into the seismic fragility assessment of single-layer reticulated domes.

In this paper, the tension-compression fatigue test method and the fatigue life characteristics of carbon fabric/epoxy laminate coupon are presented. To avoid the buckling during the compression, a proper design for the test coupons is essential. The critical buckling loads for the coupons are calculated by assuming the coupons as columns under two types of fixed conditions. The first is that both ends of each coupon are perfectly clamped, the second is that both ends of each coupon are simply supported. The strain-load curves are obtained by compressing the representative coupons, on each surface of which a strain gage is attached. The buckling loads obtained from the tests are all between the two calculated critical buckling loads. All the coupons are broken by the compression during the fatigue tests. It is estimated to be the reason that the fatigue load causes delamination before the eventual failure of each coupon, and sequentially the micro-buckling in the delaminated region drives each coupon into fatigue failure during the compression. The S-N curve, the fatigue life characteristics of carbon fabric/epoxy is obtained.

Lightweight polymer concrete with steel fiber can be used for thin panel, high building and large span structures due to its may advantages such as its durability, low weight, control of crack propagation, high strength and toughness. This study experimented about steel fiber reinforcement of lightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate. The test result shows that the maximum strain and elastic modulus are in the range of $0.012{\sim}0.014\;and\;50.2{\times}10^3{\sim}51.0{\times}10^3kgf/cm^2$, respectively. The flexural load-deflection curves after maximum load are shown in smoothly with increase of steel fiber content

Due to the self-similarity of Berkovich and conical indenters, different materials may show the same loaddepth curve for single indentation. In this study, we first compare the load-depth characteristics of conical and Berkovich indenters via finite element method. We also analyze the variation of load-depth curves with angle of Berkovich indenter, indentation parameters, and material properties. With numerical regressions of obtained data, we then propose dual-Berkovich indentation formulae for material property evaluation. The proposed approach provides the values of elastic modulus, yield strength and strain-hardening exponent and corresponding stress-strain curve with an average error of less than 3%. The method is valid for any elastic indenters made of tungsten carbide and diamond for instance.

This paper deals with the development of structural test facility for the strength assessment of marine leisure boat built from carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) materials. The structural test facility consists of test jig, load application and control system, and data acquisition system. Test jig, and load application and control system are designed to accommodate various size and short span to depth ratios of single skin, top-hat stiffened and sandwich constructions in plated structural format such as square and rectangular shapes. A lateral pressure load, typical and important applied load condition to the plates of the hull structure for marine leisure boat, is simulated by employing a number of hydraulic cylinders operated automatically and manually. To examine and operate the structural test facility, five carbon/epoxy based FRP square plates having the test section area of $1m^2$, which are part of CFRP marine leisure boat hull, are prepared and they are subjected to monotonically increasing lateral pressure loads. In the test preparation, considering the symmetry of the plates geometry, various strain gauges and linear variable displacement transformer are used in conjunction with data acquisition system utilizing LabVIEW. From the test observation, the responses of the CFRP hull structure of marine leisure boat are understood by obtaining load to deflection and strain to load curves.
