  • Attempts were made to find out nitrogen and phosphorus loads to aquatic environment resulting from feeding Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Two different size groups, small and large, were used. The average sizes of small and large tilapia were 65.2 g and 389.2 g respectively, and three kinds of commercial diets were used for each size. The 3 kinds of commercial diets for tilapia contained in average 33.8% crude protein ($5.4\%$ nitrogen) and $1.4\%$ total phosphorus. The load of nitrogen and phosphorus were measured by subtracting the amounts of nutrients retained in the body of fish from consumed nutrients. Sixty, five percentage of total feces was excreted within 24 hours after feeding at $23^{\circ}C$. Nitrogen content in the feces was higher in large fish than small ones. The apparent digestibility of dietary protein for small and large tilapia was $90.0\%$ and $89.7\%$, respectively. Availability of dietary phosphorus for small and large tilapia was $44.7\%\;and\;51.4\%$, respectively. The total load of nitrogen and phosphorus per 1 metric ton of tilapia production was 49.5kg and 6.3kg, respectively, for small ones with feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 1.4, and 61.3 kg and 13.4kg, respectively, for large ones with the FCR of 1.8. Nitorgen balance appeared that small and large tilapia excreted $7.1\%\;and\;9.9\%$ of consumed nitrogen through fecal-nitrogen and $55.5\%\;and\;62.3\%$ through urine and gills, retaining $37.4\%\;and\;27.8\%$ in the body, respectively. These results show that small fish pollute less than large fish, excreting less and retaining more nutrients in the body.

  • The present work focuses on the unsteady aerodynamics and aeroelastic properties of a small-medium sized wind-turbine blade operating under ideal conditions. A tapered/twisted blade representative of commercial blades used in an experiment setup at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is considered. The aerodynamic loads are computed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques. For this purpose, FLUENT$^{(R)}$, a commercial finite-volume code that solves the Navier-Stokes and the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations, is used. Turbulence effects in the 2D simulations are modeled using the Wilcox k-w model for validation of the CFD approach. For the 3D aerodynamic simulations, in a first approximation, and considering that the intent is to present a methodology and workflow philosophy more than highly accurate turbulent simulations, the unsteady laminar Navier-Stokes equations were used to determine the unsteady loads acting on the blades. Five different blade pitch angles were considered and their aerodynamic performance compared. The structural dynamics of the flexible wind-turbine blade undergoing significant elastic displacements has been described by a nonlinear flap-lag-torsion slender-beam differential model. The aerodynamic quasi-steady forcing terms needed for the aeroelastic governing equations have been predicted through a strip-theory based on a simple 2D model, and the pertinent aerodynamic coefficients and the distribution over the blade span of the induced velocity derived using CFD. The resulting unsteady hub loads are achieved by a first space integration of the aeroelastic equations by applying the Galerkin's approach and by a time integration using a harmonic balance scheme. Comparison among two- and three- dimensional computations for the unsteady aerodynamic load, the flap, lag and torsional deflections, forces and moments are presented in the paper. Results, discussions and pertinent conclusions are outlined.

  • This study aims to analyze the performance of a submersible fish cage which was designed for developing an economical cage system can be applied in korean aquaculture environment easily. To analyze the performance of the designed cage a model test was carried out. In the test, inclination changes of the upper frame and mooring tensions of model cage were measured during the submerging and surfacing motion in still water and wave condition (period: 2s, wave height: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3m). As a result, in the still water condition the model cage kept horizontal balance and inclination degree of the upper frame was about $1^{\circ}$. In the wave condition, the model cage showed bilateral symmetric up-and-down motion but the average inclination degree of the upper frame was about $0^{\circ}$. When the model cage reached at a depth of 1m, the up-and-down motion of the cage was decreased by 12% compared with that of at the surface (period 2s, height 0.3m). In the same wave condition, the maximum and average line tension under the bottom position were about 8% and 11% respectively compared with that of at surface.

  • A modified VIStA (Vortex Inertial Staged Air) burner has been developed and applied to a once-through type boiler. The secondary air is supplied through a swirler instead of nozzles, which stabilizes the flame and reduces carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. However, the modification increases the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx). To balance emissions of the two pollutants, a divided flame was adopted. An air damper was installed to control the distribution of air to each combustion chamber, and three types of flame dividers were studied. The effects of the air-fuel ratio and combustion load on the NOx formation were investigated. The divided flame was found to reduce the NOx emission up to 25%, while keeping the CO to less than 10 ppm.

  • The Cluster-based routing protocol is consumed the energy consumption efficiently, but there are many isolated nodes while clustering, so these are impeding energy efficiency. Hop-by-hop based routing protocol is suitable large-scaled network or dynamic environment. However, with the periodic flooding signal and rapid energy loss of near sink nodes, the network life time become shorter. In this paper, We propose the hybrid routing protocol that combine the cluster based routing method for energy efficiency of nodes and hop-by-hop method for re-joining the isolated nodes and load balance of nodes in the near cluster using fibonacci sequence. Based on the analysis, it is proved that the hybrid routing protocol provided higher energy efficiency and less the isolated nodes than previous methods.

  • A primary task in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is data collection. The main objective of this task is to collect sensor readings from sensor fields at predetermined sinks using routing protocols without conducting network processing at intermediate nodes, which have been proved as being inefficient in many research studies using a static sink. The major drawback is that sensor nodes near a data sink are prone to dissipate more energy power than those far away due to their role as relay nodes. Recently, novel WSN architectures based on mobile sinks and mobile relay nodes, which are able to move inside the region of a deployed WSN, which has been developed in most research works related to mobile WSN mainly exploit mobility to reduce and balance energy consumption to enhance communication reliability among sensor nodes. Our main purpose in this paper is to propose a solution to the problem of deploying mobile data collectors for alleviating the high traffic load and resulting bottleneck in a sink's vicinity, which are caused by static approaches. For this reason, several WSNs based on mobile elements have been proposed. We studied two key issues in WSN mobility: the impact of the mobile element (sink or relay nodes) and the impact of the mobility model on WSN based on its performance expressed in terms of energy efficiency and reliability. We conducted an extensive set of simulation experiments. The results obtained reveal that the collection approach based on relay nodes and the mobility model based on stochastic perform better.

  • In data parallel programs incurring high cache locality, the choice of grain sizes affects cache performance. Though the grain sizes chosen provide fair load balance among processors, the grain sizes that ignore underlying caching effect result in address interferences between grains allocated to a processor. These address interferences appear to have a negative impact on the cache locality, since they result in cache conflict misses. To address this problem, we propose a best grain size driven from a cache size and the number of processors based on direct mapped cache's characteristic. Since the proposed method does not map the grains to the same location in the cache, cache conflict misses are reduced. Simulation results show that the proposed best grain size substantially improves the performance of tested data parallel programs through the reduction of cache misses on direct-mapped caches.

  • Statement of problem : Recently various implant components such as premachined gold cylinder, plastic cylinder gold UCLA abutment and plastic abutment were developed and used clinically without clinical investigation. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fabrication of gold cylinder on the fitness and preload of the standard abutment and also the effects of fabrication of UCLA gold abutment on the fitness and stress transfer around the implant fixture. Material and method : Three kinds of gold cylinders such as, as-received gold cylinder (Nobel Biocare, Sweden), gold cylinder after casting, and plastic cylinder after casting with type IV gold alloy were tested over the top of the standard abutment. At the same time, three types of abutments such as, gold UCLA abutment before and after casting, and plastic abutment after casting were tested. The cylinder and abutment was secured over the fixture with conventional pre-load values using an electronic torque controller (Nobel Biocare, Sweden). The fitness of the abutment on the fixture and gold cylinder over the standard abutment were measured using the microhardness tester (MXT 70, Matsuzawa, Japan). Preload and the strain values were recorded using the strain balance unit (SB-10, Measurement group, Raleigh, USA) and strain indicator (P-3500, Measurement group, Raleigh, USA) systems. Results and conclusion : 1. Significant differences were found in the fit between the gold cylinder and plastic cylinder. 2 There were significant differences between the preload of the gold cylinder and that of the plastic cylinder. 3. Significant differences were found in the fit between the gold UCLA abutment and plastic UCLA abutment. 4. There were no significant differences in the stress generated on the supporting structure of the fixture among different cylinder and abutment groups.

  • The areas for agricultural purposes in Korea are decreasing every year because of urbanization. However, it is still 17.6% of the total national boundary on 2008. Most of the rice paddy fields are located near the waterbodies which require lots of water during rainy season from May to September. Also lots of nitrate and phosphate chemical fertilizers are spread on the fields every year in order to supply the nutrients for vegetation. The excess nutrients is impairs the water quality of rivers and lakes when it is washed out from the fields. The Korean Ministry of Environment (MOE) adapted the new water quality improvement program, which is the Total Daily Maximum Load, to improve the water quality and to protect the aquaecosystems. The constructed wetland is one of the possible ways to treat the agricultural runoff. The constructed wetland on this study area was constructed by MOE in 2007 to evaluate the application of the constructed wetlands. Plant growth continues to increase during the summer until it reaches its highest biomass of 6,032 g/$m^2$ in August and September. More researches about sedimentation, vegetation, water balance, etc. were performed to evaluate the removal efficiency, to find the removal mechanisms and to make the guidelines for design and maintenance.

  • One of the most important factors on the performance of the distributed systems is the effective distribution of the software components, There have been a lot of researches on partitioning and allocating the task-based system, while the studies on the allocating the objects of the object-oriented system into the distributed object environments are very little relatively. In this paper. we defines the graph model for partitioning the existing C++ application and allocating the C++ objects into CORBA-base distributed system, In addition, we propose a distributed object allocation algorithm based on this graph model. The performance of distributed systems is determined by the concurrency between objects, the load balance among the processors and the communication cost on the networks. To search for the solutions optimizing the above three factors simultaneously, the object allocation algorithm of this paper is based on the Niched Pareto Genetic Algorithm (NPGA). We performed the experiment on the typical C++ application and CORBA system to prove the effectiveness of our graph model and our object allocation algorithm.
