A load-bearing structural element with energy dissipation capability under harmonic excitation

  • This paper focuses on the design, fabrication, testing and analysis of a novel load-bearing element with energy dissipation capability. A single element comprises two von-Mises trusses (VMTs), which are sandwiched between two plates and connected to dashpots that stroke as the VMTs cycle between stable equilibrium states. The elements can be assembled in-plane to form a large plate-like structure or stacked with different properties in each layer for improved load-adaptability. Also introduced in the elements are pre-loaded springs (PLSs) that provide high initial stiffness and allow the element to carry a static load even when the VMTs cannot under harmonic disturbance input. Simulations of the system behavior using the Simscape environment show good overall correlation with test data. Good energy dissipation capability is observed over a frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 2 Hz. The test and simulation results show that a two layer prototype, having one soft VMT layer and one stiff VMT layer, can provide good energy dissipation over a decade of variation in harmonic load amplitude, while retaining the ability to carry static load due to the PLSs. The paper discusses how system design parameter changes affect the static load capability and the hysteresis behavior.

  • Middle size of membrane retractable roof is under 25m span which consists of various moving systems. Trolley is the system that leads the membrane to parking place, transferring the load from the membrane to structural cable. When membrane closes roof completely, thus, structural behavior of trolley, which may contain various material with different friction coefficients, should be investigated by vertical load. Nummerical simulation of trolley prototypes, in this research, was performed by incrementation of vertical load. Consequently, this paper studied proper friction characteristics and provided the effective inner materials of trolley.

A Network Load Sensitive Block Placement Strategy of HDFS

  • This paper investigates and analyzes the default block placement strategy of HDFS. HDFS is a typical representative distributed file system to stream vast amount of data effectively at high bandwidth to user applications. However, the default HDFS block placement policy assumes that all nodes in the cluster are homogeneous, and places blocks with a simple RoundRobin strategy without considering any nodes' resource characteristics, which decreases self-adaptability of the system. The primary contribution of this paper is the proposition of a network load sensitive block placement strategy. We have implemented our algorithm and justify it through extensive simulations and comparison with similar existing studies. The results indicate that our work not only performs much better in the data distribution but also improves write performance more significantly than the others.

Field Adaptability Test for the Full Load Rejection of Nuclear Turbine Speed Controllers using Dynamic Simulator

  • This paper describes the speed control functions of the typical steam turbine speed controllers and the test results of generator load rejection simulations. The goal of the test is to verify the speed controller's ability to limit the steam turbine's peak speed within a predetermined level in the event of generator load loss. During normal operations, the balance between the driving force of the steam turbine and the braking force of the generator load is maintained and the speed of the turbine-generator is constant. Upon the generator's load loss, in other word, the load rejection, the turbine speed would rapidly increase up to the peak speed at a fast acceleration rate. It is required that the speed controller has the ability to limit the peak speed below the overspeed trip point, which is typically 110[%] of rated speed. If an actual load rejection occurs, a substantial amount of stresses will be applied to the turbine as well as other equipments, In order to avoid this unwanted situation, not an actual test but the other method is necessary. We are currently developing the turbine control system for another nuclear power plant and have plan to do the simulation suggested in this paper.

A Novel Globally Adaptive Load-Balanced Routing Algorithm for Torus Interconnection Networks

  • A globally adaptive load-balanced routing algorithm for torus interconnection networks is proposed. Unlike previously published algorithms, this algorithm employs a new scheme based on collision detection to handle deadlock, and has higher routing adaptability than previous algorithms. Simulation results show that our algorithm outperforms previous algorithms by 16% on benign traffic patterns, and by 10% to 21% on adversarial traffic patterns.

  • 유선 네트워크에 비해 상대적으로 제한된 대역폭을 가지는 셀룰러 네트워크의 특성으로 인해 효율적인 대역폭 관리에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 또한, 최근 들어 수요가 증가하고 있는 다양한 멀티미디어 서비스들의 QoS를 보장하고, 사용자의 이동성으로 인해 발생할 수 있는 네트워크 과부하 현상을 해결하기 위한 실시간 대역폭 관리에 대한 중요성이 더욱 강조되고 있다 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 셀룰러 네트워크상에서 대역폭의 이동을 통한 온라인 부하분산 알고리즘을 제안하였다 이 방법은 각 셀들간 트래픽 부하의 균형을 통해 지역적으로 발생하는 과부하 현상을 극복하고 높은 대역폭 효율성을 보장한다. 또한, 제안된 알고리즘은 현재 네트워크 상황에 대한 적응성과 유연성을 제공하는 온라인 기법을 기반으로 셀 단위로 수행되기 때문에 실제 네트워크 상황에 적용하기가 용이하다. 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안된 방법이 기존의 타 기법들에 비해 네트워크의 다양한 트래픽 상황에서 우수한 성능을 가지는 것을 확인하였다.

  • 초음파 펄스 속도법은 기존 구조물에 손상을 주지 않고 콘크리트의 상태평가를 할 수 있다. 또한 상대적으로 간편하고, 경제적이며, 뛰어난 적용성 때문에 그 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 하중이력상태에 따른 콘크리트의 초음파 펄스 속도를 측정하여 그 결과를 분석하고 콘크리트 내부결함을 평가하였다.

  • This paper has been studied the parallel resonant inverter which controlling the constant power and tracking the load resonant frequency with PLL is possible, in order to minimize switching losses. The current-fed full-bridge type parallel resonant inverter of an induction heating system was composed of IGBT in switching device. For regulating the output power of an induction heating system, the Fuzzy controller is used. The Fuzzy controller makes the control signal for a stable power regulating control and when reference is changed, it is superior to adaptability. It has been evaluated a stable behavior for a noise with switching and a load disturbance.

  • This paper describes the development of a 3-DOF laparoscopic assistant robot system with motor-controlled bending and zooming mechanisms using the voice command motion control and auto-tracking control. The system is designed with two major criteria: safety and adaptability. To satisfy the safety criteria we designed the robot with optimized range of motion. For adaptability, the robot is designed with compact size to minimize interference with the staffs in the operating room. The required external motions were replaced by the bending mechanism within the abdomen using flexible laparoscope. The zooming of the robot is achieved through in and out motion at the port where the laparoscope is inserted. The robot is attachable to the bedside using a conventional laparoscope holder with multiple DOF joints and is compact enough for hand-carry. The voice-controlled command input and auto-tracking control is expected to enhance the overall performance of the system while reducing the control load imposed on the surgeon during a laparoscopic surgery. The proposed system is expected to have sufficient safety features and an easy-to-use interface to enhance the overall performance of current laparoscopy.

공진형 인버터를 위한 범용 퍼지 논리 제어기 설계 (General Digital Fuzzy Logic Controller Design For Resonant Inverter)

  • 고주파 유도 가열 시스템에서 철과 같은 물체를 가열하게 되면, 가열된 금속이 큐리점 부근에서 전기적인 임피던스가 급격하게 변화하는 특징을 가지는 시변 시스템이 된다. 또한 부하 임피던스가 변화함에 따라 시스템의 부하 공진 주파수가 달라지므로 해서 시스템의 효율이 감소하는 문제점이 있었다. 그리고, 피가열 물체의 용융이나 삽입 상태에 따른 시스템의 단락 현상으로 인해 시스템이 파괴되는 문제점이 있었다. 본 논문에서는 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위한 방법으로 PLL에 의한 부하 공진 주파수를 추종하면서 스위칭 손실을 줄이고, 시변 부하에 대한 유도 가열시 큐리점 부근의 급격한 부하 임피던스 변화에도 안정된 정전력 제어가 가능할 뿐 아니라 대전력용에 적합하고, 단락현상으로부터 시스템을 보호하는 병렬 공진형 인버터 시스템에 적용되는 퍼지논리 제어기를 설계하였다.
