The output of Korea's livestock industry represents about 40% of the total agricultural production, making it the most high value-added sector in the entire agricultural and forestry industry. However, the fatal epidemics such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza spurs demands for the advanced management of livestock production with IT technologies. U-Livestock means the application of ubiquitous technologies to livestock production. In this study, U-Livestock service models are established on the basis of the life cycle of livestock by using local and overseas cases. The objectives, contents, and structures of service models are required to be designed in detail respectively. The integration of such service models is expected to he1p modernize the livestock industry and raise the productivity of sector.
This study was conducted to compare the reproduction ability of the wild type boar and recombinant human erythropoietin (hEPO) transgenic boar semen. Ejaculated boar semen was analyzed by flow cytometry, Elisa and IVF methods. In experiment 1, flow cytometric analysis showed that the live sperm ratio of transgenic boar sperm significantly lower (P<0.05) than that of wild type boar after incubation at 20, 22, 24 and 26 hr. In experiment 2, the presence and levels of various cytokines (IL-6, IL-10 and $TNF-{\alpha}$) to related animal reproduction in the seminal and blood plasma were examined using specific enzyme immunoassay. There was no significant difference between both groups. In experiment 3, the fertilizing capacity and developmental ability of both boar sperm were compared. The transgenic boar sperm had a significantly low capacity of penetration, sperm-zona binding, embryo development, and blastocyst formation compared to wild type sperm (P<0.05). These results suggest that transgenic boar sperm harboring hEPO gene has low sperm viability than wild type boar, and it is a reason to decrease of fertility and litter size.

Objective: Temperament can be defined as a type of behavioral tendency that appears in a relatively stable manner in responses to various external stimuli over time. The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for the records of temperament testing that are used to improve the temperament of Jeju crossbred (Jeju${\times}$Thoroughbred) horses. Methods: This study was conducted using 205 horses (101 females and 104 males) produced between 2010 and 2015. The experimental animals were imprinted and tamed according to the Manual for Horse Taming and Evaluation for Therapeutic Riding Horses and evaluated according to the categories for temperament testing (gentleness, patience, aggressiveness, sensitivity, and friendliness) between 15 months and 18 months of age. Each category was scored on a five-point linear scale. Genetic parameters for the test categories were analyzed using a multi-trait mixed model with repeated records. The ASReml program was used to analyze the data. Results: The heritability of gentleness, patience, aggressiveness, sensitivity and friendliness ranged from 0.08 to 0.53. The standard errors of estimated heritability ranged from 0.13 to 0.17. The test categories showed high genetic correlations with each other, ranging from 0.96 to 0.99 and high repeatability, ranging from 0.70 to 0.73. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the test categories had moderate heritability and high genetic correlations, but additional studies may be necessary to use the results for the improvement programs of the temperament of Jeju crossbred horses.

This study was conducted to obtain the transformed alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) plants with thermotolerance gene (BcHSP17.6) using Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404 and we confirmed the transformed gene from the regenerated alfalfa plants. The expression vector, pBKH4, harboring BcHSP17.6 gene was used for production of transgenic alfalfa plants. In a process for transformation, the callus of alfalfa was cocultivated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens and transformed calli were selected on kanamycin-containing SH-3-kc medium to regenerate into into the plant. The complete transgenic alfalfa plants were produced by cultivation for about 4 months on several regeneration media, SH-nk-c, SH-l lb-c, SH-sp-c, and SH-IBA. The transgenic alfalfa plants were analyzed by isolation of genomic DNA and PCR/Southem blot.

The fourth industrial revolution based on information and communication technology (ICT) becomes the center of society, and the overall industrial structure is also changing significantly. ICT refers to the hardware of information devices and the software technologies required for the operation and information management of these devices, and any means of collecting, producing, processing, preserving, communicating and utilizing them. ICT is integrated into industries and services or combined with new technologies in various fields such as robotics and nanotechnology to connect all products and services to the network. The development of ICT, which continuously creates new products and services, has spread to all sectors of the industry, affecting not only daily life but also the livestock sector recently. In agriculture, ICT technology can reduce production costs by efficiently managing labor and energy because it can improve quality and yield based on data on environmental and growth information such as temperature, humidity, light and soil. In particular, smart livestock is considered suitable for achieving livestock management goals because it can reduce labor force and improve productivity by remotely and automatically managing accurate information necessary for raising and breeding livestock with ICT devices. The purpose of this study is to propose the need for ICT technology by comparing farm productivity before and after ICT is introduced. The method of the study is to compare the productivity before and after the introduction of ICT in Korean beef farms, pig farms, and poultry farms. The effectiveness of the study proved the excellence of ICT technology through the production results before ICT introduction and the productivity improvement case of livestock farms that efficiently operated manpower management and reduced labor force after ICT introduction. The conclusion of this paper is to present the need for smart livestock through ICT adoption through case study results.
In this study, we propose a technique to automatically generate transfer documents using sensor data from livestock manure transfer systems. The research involves analyzing sensor data and applying machine learning techniques to derive optimized outcomes for livestock manure transfer documents. By comparing and contrasting with existing documents, we present a method for automatic document generation. Specifically, we propose the utilization of Gradient Boosting, a machine learning algorithm. The objective of this research is to enhance the efficiency of livestock manure and liquid byproduct management. Currently, stakeholders including producers, transporters, and processors manually input data into the livestock manure transfer management system during the disposal of manure and liquid byproducts. This manual process consumes additional labor, leads to data inconsistency, and complicates the management of distribution and treatment. Therefore, the aim of this study is to leverage data to automatically generate transfer documents, thereby increasing the efficiency of livestock manure and liquid byproduct management. By utilizing sensor data from livestock manure and liquid byproduct transport vehicles and employing machine learning algorithms, we establish a system that automates the validation of transfer documents, reducing the burden on producers, transporters, and processors. This efficient management system is anticipated to create a transparent environment for the distribution and treatment of livestock manure and liquid byproducts.
This study examined the association between functional sequence variants (FSVs) of myosin heavy chain 3 (MYH3) genotypes and collagen content in a Landrace and Jeju native pig (JNP) crossbred population. Four muscles (Musculus longissimus dorsi, Musculus semimembranosus, Musculus triceps brachii, and Musculus biceps femoris) were used for the analysis of meat collagen content, and the same animals were genotyped for the FSVs of the MYH3 gene by using PCR-RFLP (polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism). Three FSVs of MYH3 genotypes were identified and had genotype frequencies of 0.358, 0.551, and 0.091 for QQ, Qq, and qq, respectively. QQ animals for the FSVs of the MYH3 genotypes showed higher collagen content in their M. longissimus dorsi (p < 0.001), M. semimembranosus (p < 0.001), M. triceps brachii (p < 0.001), and M. biceps femoris (p < 0.001) than qq homozygous animals. After the validation of this result in other independent populations, the FSVs of MYH3 genotypes can be a valuable genetic marker for improving collagen content in porcine muscles and can also be applied to increase the amount of collagen for biomedical purposes.
