In this paper, the intelligent estimation algorithm is developed for residual quantity estimate of lithium secondary cell and we suggest the control algorithm to get battery SOC through thermal modeling of electric cell. Lithium secondary cell gives cycle life, charge characteristic, discharge characteristic, temperature characteristic, self-discharge characteristic and the capacity recovery rate etc. Therefore, we make an accurate estimate of the capacity of battery according to thermal modeling to know the capacity of electric cell that is decreased by various special quality of lithium secondary cell. And we show effectiveness through comparison of value as result that use simulation and fuzzy logic.
A valuable metal recovery from waste resources such as spent rechargeable secondary batteries is of critical issues because of a sharp increase in the amount of waste resources. In this context, it is necessary to research not only recycling waste lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), but also reusing valuable metals (e.g., Li, Co, Ni, Mn etc.) recovered from waste LIBs. In particular, the lithium hydroxide ($LiOH{\cdot}xH_2O$), which is of precursors that can be prepared by the recovery of Li in waste LIBs, can be reused as a catalyst, a carbon dioxide absorbent, and again as a precursor for cathode materials of LIB. However, most studies of recycling the waste LIBs have been focused on the preparation of lithium carbonate with a recovery of Li. Herein, we show the preparation of high purity lithium hydroxide powder along with the precipitation process, and the systematic study to find an optimum condition is also carried out. The lithium carbonate, which is recovered from waste LIBs, was used as starting materials for synthesis of lithium hydroxide. The optimum precipitation conditions for the preparation of LiOH were found as follows: based on stirring, reaction temperature $90^{\circ}C$, reaction time 3 hr, precursor ratio 1:1. To synthesize uniform and high purity lithium hydroxide, 2-step precipitation process was additionally performed, and consequently, high purity $LiOH{\cdot}xH_2O$ powder was obtained.
A study on the recovery of lithium and leaching behavior of NCM powder by hydrogen reduction for NCM system Li-ion battery scraps was investigated. The reductive rate was about 93% at $800^{\circ}C$ by hydrogen treatment. The lithium carbonate with 99% purity was manufactured by using $CO_2$ gas and washing method with water for NCM powder after hydrogen reduction. As a result of comparing the powders before and after the hydrogen reduction treatment for acid leaching behavior we obtained 32% enhanced leaching rate of cobalt, 45% enhanced leaching rate of nickel and the 90% leaching effect for manganese by hydrogen reduction at 2M $H_2SO_4$ concentration condition.
Dismantlement of lithium primary batteries without explosion is required to recycle the lithium primary batteries which could be exploded by heating too much or crushing. In the present study, the optimum discharging condition was investigated to dismantle the batteries without explosion. When the batteries were discharged with $0.5kmol{\cdot}m^{-3}$ sulfuric acid, the reactivity of the batteries decreased after 4 days at $35^{\circ}C$ and after 1 day at $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. This result shows that higher temperature removed the high reactivity of the batteries. Because loss of metals recycled increases when the batteries are discharged only with the sulfuric acid, discharging process using acid solution and water was newly proposed. When the batteries were discharged with water during 24 hours after discharging with $0.5kmol{\cdot}m^{-3}$ sulfuric acid during 6 hours, the batteries discharged were dismantled without explosion. Because decrease in loss of metals was accomplished by new process, the recycling process of the batteries could become economic by the 2-step discharging process.

A 66-year-old male with chronic alcoholism presented with tremor, gait disturbance, memory impairment, insomnia, decreased appetite, and confusion. The patient had been taking lithium daily for treatment of bipolar disorder. Brain CT showed no specific abnormality, and serum lithium and ammonia levels were 3.63 mEq/L (therapeutic range, 0.6~1.2 mEq/L) and $85{\mu}g/dL$ (reference range: $19{\sim}54{\mu}g/dL$), respectively. Therefore, the initial differential diagnosis included chronic lithium intoxication, hepatic encephalopathy, Wernicke encephalopathy, or alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Even with the provision of adequate hydration, the patient's neurologic status did not show improvement, so that lactulose enema, thiamine replacement, and continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) were started on the third admission day. By the fifth admission day he had made a rapid neurologic recovery, and was discharged on the 20th admission day. Therefore, CVVHDF might be a treatment for patients with chronic lithium intoxication, because, even if serum lithium concentration is normal, lithium concentration in the brain may be different from that of the serum.

Efforts are currently underway to develop a method for efficiently recovering lithium from the cathode material of waste lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP). The successful application of lithium battery recycling can address the regional ubiquity and price volatility of lithium resources, while also mitigating the environmental impact associated with both waste battery material and lithium production processes. The isomorphic substitution leaching process was used to recover lithium from spent lithium iron phosphate batteries. Lithium was leached by the isomorphic substitution of Fe2+ in LFP using a relatively inexpensive ferric chloride etching solution as a leaching agent. In the study, the leaching rate of lithium was compared using the ferric chloride etching solution at various multiples of the LFP molar ratio: 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6 times. The highest lithium leaching rate was shown at about 98% when using 1.3 times the LFP molar ratio. Subsequently, to eliminate Fe, the leachate was treated with NaOH. The Fe-free solution was then used to synthesize lithium carbonate, and the harvested powder was characterized and validated. The surface shape and crystal phase were analyzed using SEM and XRD analysis, and impurities and purity were confirmed using ICP analysis.
Owing to the demand for lithium-ion batteries, the recovery of valuable metals from waste lithium-ion batteries is required in future. A pyrometallurgical treatment is appropriate for recycling a large number of waste lithium-ion batteries, but Li loss to slag and dust present a significant challenge. This research investigated carbonation roasting and water leaching behaviors in Li-ion batteries by graphite addition to recover Li from the NCM-based cathode materials of waste Li-ion batteries. When 10 wt% of graphite was added, CO and CO2 gases were emitted with a rapid weight reduction at apporoximately 850 K, when heated in Ar and CO2 atmosphere. After the rapid weight reduction, NCM was decomposed and reduced to metal oxides and pure metals. In the carbonation roasting of black powder (NCM+graphite), O2 is generated via the decomposition of NCM, and an oxides, such as Li2O and NiO were were also generated. Subsequently, Li2O reacts with CO2 to generate Li2CO3, and a part of NiO was reduced by graphite to produce metal Ni. In addition, up to 94.5 % Li2CO3 with ~99.95 % purity was recovered via water leaching after carbonation roasting.
Globally, the demand for electric vehicles has surged due to greenhouse gas regulations related to climate change, leading to an increase in the production of used batteries as a consequence of the battery life issue. This study aims to selectively leach and recover valuable metal lithium from the cathode material of spent LFP (LiFePO4) batteries among lithium-ion batteries. Generally, the use of inorganic acids results in the emission of toxic gases or the generation of large quantities of wastewater, causing environmental issues. To address this, research is being conducted to leach lithium using organic acids and other leaching agents. In this study, selective leaching was performed using the organic acid methane sulfonic acid (MSA, CH3SO3H). Experiments were conducted to determine the optimal conditions for selectively leaching lithium by varying the MSA concentration, pulp density, and hydrogen peroxide dosage. The results of this study showed that lithium was leached at approximately 100%, while iron and phosphorus components were leached at about 1%, verifying the leaching efficiency and the leaching rates of the main components under different variables.
In this study, PU-LMO was made by immobilization of LMO on urethane foam (PU) with using an EVA as a binder. PU-LMO was characterized by using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The optimal ratio of EVA/LMO for preparation of PU-LMO was 0.26 gEVA/gLMO. The adsorption of lithium ions by PU-LMO was found to follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The equilibrium data fitted well with Langmuir isotherm model and the maximum removal capacity of lithium ions was 17.09 mg/g. The PU-LMO was found to have a remarkably high selectivity of lithium ions and high adsorption capacity because the distribution coefficient ($K_d$) of lithium ion was higher than those of other metal ions.
In this present work, the froth flotation of lithium ore from Boam mine located in Wooljin, Kyungbuk has been carried out to produce high-grade lithium concentrate. The sample ore-Lepidolite mainly contained silicate mineral (quartz, muscovite) and calcite. In consequences of the experiment, it has been possible to obtain relatively high-grade lithium while using anionic acid (oleic acid) to remove calcite before the froth flotation for lithium concentrate. Among the amines collectors (Armac-T, Armac-C, Armafloat-18, Armafloat-1597), Armac-T has been relatively effective than another ones. Under the optimum condition (collector : Armac-T 100g/t, frother : AF65 50g/t, depressants : $Na_2SiO_3$ 600g/t and Lactic acid 100g/t, pulp density : 20%, pH 5.5, number of cleaning : 2), it has been obtained relatively high-grade lithium concentrate ($Li_2O$) with recovery of 80.3% and with grade of 4.33%.
