  • The purpose of this study were to discuss on the importance of community youth development programs and review the enhancement of competence in youth The research methods used the extensive review of related literatures. Based on the major results, the implications and suggestions were as follows. First, community youth activity will need to provide the opportunities of enhancing the competencies and a full complement of positive connections to youth programs. Second, communities promote to engage youth as partners with adults in the process of positive youth development. Third, youth development organizations operate to support the programs to prevent risky-behaviors or treat specific problems in terms of community youth contexts. Finally, collaboration and network are necessarily required among youth, adults, family, school, organizations within the community. Changes to work and workplace are so significant that policies refer to 'the knowledge society' at the same time 'information society'. Future workers will need to have the skills of information and communications management and control.

  • The primary purpose of cleft lip surgery should be the aesthetic and functional recovery of the facial components. Triangular flap repair is one of the most common techniques used in cleft lip surgery. In this case report, thirty patients with unilateral cleft lip had been treated using the Tennison-Randall method. The results were favorable and there have been no permanent complications.

  • Sural nerve is a sensory nerve that innervates the lateral side of ankle and foot, and the injury of this nerve can be usually caused by surgical approch of calaneal fracture or achilles tendon injury. Entrapment neuropahty of sural nerve caused by bony fragment after calcaneal fracture is not reported, yet. Authors experienced one case that sural nerve injury due to bony fragment after calcaneal fracture and we regard that it is a rare case, so we report this case after reviewing literatures.

  • The development of internet has changed the realm of life from off-line to on-line, causing not only the overall change in society but also urgently demanding change in the basic concept of museum. Virtual Museums have appeared in line with such changes, and they utilize space regardless of real time and space unlike the traditional museums that collected and preserved works for exhibition in physical space thereby playing a role of catalyst for exhibition in virtual space and for direct exchange with the public. Through relevant literatures and case studies, the present research particularly investigated the exhibition characteristics of virtual reality-based museums out of all types of cyber museum, in an effort to make a comparison with those of offline museums, and eventually to suggest a direction of virtual reality museums that would be established in the future and to consider the possibilities of utilizing them.

  • We experienced a case of congenital paraesophageal hiatal hernia[Type;IV in seventeen day-old female and treated through the right thoracotomy, reduction of the herniated viscera ,stomach and some part of transverse colon and omentum by gentle finger push, and narrowing the esopahgeal hiatus. Paraesophageal hiatal hernia accounts for only 5% per cent of all diaphragmatic defects but is a potentially dangerous lesion due to compressed lung by the herniated viscera. Symptoms are related to this, including exertional dyspnea, vomiting, cough, Tachypnea but noncyanotic, etc. Barium study shows that the stomach has herniated into the right pleural cavity. The speckled appearance in the herniated stomach in the herniated stomach was due to food material. It strongly suggests paraesophageal hiatal hernia. The operation was done. We report the case with the brief review of literatures.

  • Successful correction of the partial form of atrioventricular[AV] canal is now readily achievable. The most challenging technical features of this anomaly are the associated mitral valvular deformity and the frequent inability to obtain mitral competence. Residual mitral incompetence after repair of mitral cleft figures importantly in the causes of early and late failure. So, accurate and complete repair of the mitral valve cleft might be important. Determination of residual severe mitral regurgitation after repair is desirable to permit mitral valve replacement at the time. We have experienced one case of severe mitral regurgitation which was occurred 6 months after repair of partial form of A-V canal [ASD primum] in 22 years old virgin. Pre-op. left ventriculogram revealed severe mitral regurgitation in this patient. We preferred to perform mitral valve replacement with St. Jude valve in this patient at March 1984. Post-op. course was uneventful to now for 5 months and we report this case, review and discuss the literatures.

  • We performed clinical analysis about 20 cases of pulmonary parenchymal and intrabronchial hamartoma in Korea by literatures of the Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgical Society during 8 years from September 1976 to September 1984 and in addition to our hospital experienced 4 cases of pulmonary parenchymal hamartoma during same periods. 1] There were no cases below second decades. 2] Patients of pulmonary parenchymal hamartoma were asymptomatic, but patients of intrabronchial hamartoma were symptomatic [dyspnea & frequent upper respiratory tract infections]. 3] Pulmonary parenchymal hamartoma were confirmed by removal of mass, but intrabronchial hamartoma were confirmed by bronchoscopic biopsy. 4] There were no malignant changes in both type of pulmonary hamartoma.

  • Cor triatriatum is a variant of abnormal connection between the pulmonary vein and true left atrium, which is separated from accessory left atrium receiving pulmonary venous blood flow by fibromuscular diaphragm. Usually it is diagnosed after operation because difficulty in visualization of the diaphragm by conventional diagnostic tools. We experienced a rare entity of congenital heart disease diagnosed as car triatriatum with atrial septal defect and partial anomalous pulmonary venous return after completing operation, which was diagnosed as ASD with PAPVR preoperatively. Anomalous right pulmonary venous opening was located at right atrium, secundum type defect of atrial septum was present, and dual chambered left atrium without connection was also seen. Excision of the diaphragm and wide patch repair of ASD including right pulmonary vein were performed with good postoperative results. Herewith, we report this case with review of literatures.

  • We have recently experienced a rare case of abdominal aortic injury caused by deceleration force during fall in upright position. The patient was 43-year-old brick-layer fell from 12 meter height and sustained compression fracture of the spine and both legs. The aortic injury was unnoticed at that time. About 2 years later, marked stenosis of the distal abdominal aorta was found together with clinical manifestations of ischemia of both legs. Aorto-femoral bypass on both sides has completely relieved the symptoms, Similar type of abdominal aortic injuries could not be found in the literatures.

  • Cephalogram is one of the most important tool in researching growth and development of craniofacial area, orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. But its inherent distortion of actual length and angles during projecting three dimensional object to two dimensional plane might cause errors in quantitative analysis of shape and size. three dimensional high quality images can be obtained using computerized tomogram and have reported in literatures. Considering its expenses and amount of exposure to radiation, limitations still remain to be solved in its application to routine practice. construction of three dimensional image using principle of orientator can be obtained by biplanar stereoradiography. Theoretically two images, lateral and P-A can be used to construct three dimensional image provided that those are taken at same time by two different focal spots. As two images(lateral and P-A) obtained by conventional cephalogram have different head posture, those need compensation to construct three dimensional images. This study introduced principle of computerized head posture compensation and showed that conventional cephalogram could be used to construct three dimensional image and could be applied to routine orthodontic practice.
