EO performance of TN cell on the inorganic films surface using DuoPIGatron ion source on NDLC thin film (무기박막표면에 DuoPIGatron 이온소스를 이용한 TN-LCD 셀의 전기광학 특성)

  • Electro-optical (EO) characteristics of twisted nematic (TN) - liquid crystal display (LCD) on the NDLC thin film using obliquely ion beam (IB) exposure as new ion beam (IB) type system (DuoPIGatrion ion source). A good uniform alignment of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with the ion beam exposure on the NDLC thin film was observed. In addition, it can be achieved the good EO properties of the ion-beam-aligned TN-cell on polyimide surface ; the stable VT curve in the ion-beam-aligned TN cell on the NDLC thin film with ion beam exposure using new type IB equipment was obtained. and the fast response time in the ion-beam-aligned TN cell on the NDLC thin film with ion beam exposure using new type IB equipment was obtained.

  • Urban air mobility (UAM) has recently attracted lots of attention as a solution to urban centralization and global warming. Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) is a concept that emerges as one of the promising and clean technologies for UAM. There are two difficult challenges for eVTOL aircraft to solve. One is how to improve the weight efficiency of aircraft, and the other is how to complete long-range missions for UAM's flight scenarios. To approach these challenges, we propose a consolidated concept design of battery-fuel cell hybrid tiltrotor aircraft with a liquid hydrogen (LH2) fuel tank. The efficiency of a battery-fuel cell hybrid powertrain system on the designed eVTOL aircraft is compared to that of a battery-only powertrain system. This paper shows how much payload can increase and the flight scenario can be improved by hybridizing the battery and fuel cell and presenting a detailed concept of a cryogenic storage tank for LH2.

  • In-plane switching characteristics of PI rubbed ITO sandwich cell with low molecule FLC (ferroelectric liquid crystal) surface was investigated. FLC on the surface is governed by the applying frequency and surface condition. By controlling the Ps (spontaneous polarization) direction of dual FLC surfaces, switching characteristics are improved without change of cell structure.

  • This study analyzes especially drag and lift models recently developed for fluid-solid, fluid-fluid or liquid-liquid two-phase flows to understand their applicability on the computational fluid dynamics, CFD modeling of pulsatile blood flow. Virtual mass effect and the effect of red blood cells, RBCs aggregation on CFD modeling of blood flow are also shortly reviewed to recognize future tendencies in this field. Recent studies on two-phase flows are found as very useful to develop more powerful drag-lift models that reflect the effects of blood cell's shape, deformation, concentration, and aggregation.

  • We studied about new module technology to solve warpage problems that produce bending of cell in the LCD (Liquid crystal display). Characteristics of cell gap and glass bending of applying heat Panel's PAD part and cell at various temperature was investigated. When applies heat and compresses PAD party only in case of compressing COG(Chip on Glass), uniformity of cell gap that happen by glass bending by temperature of these compressing COG In the PAD party is decreased. However, in case of compress COG. glass bending of applying heat Panel's PAD part and cell at various temperature produced 20um. But, uniformity of cell gap was not decreased. Therefore, it is considered that applying heat Panel's PAD part and cell could decrease uniformity of cell gap and bending of glass.

  • The E.M.F of the galvanic cell with fused salt was measured to determine the activities of zinc at 700-820K over the entire composition range of liquid Zn-Cd alloys. The cell used was as follows: (-) W | Zn(pure) $Zn^{2+}(KCI-LiCl)$ | Zn(in Zn-Cd alloy) | W (+) The activities of zinc in the alloys showed positive deviation from Raoult's law over the entire composition range. The activity of cadmium and some thermodynamic functions such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, entropy were derived from the results by the thermodynamic relationship. The comparison of the results and the literature data was made. The liquid Zn-Cd alloy is found to be close to the regular solution. The concentration fluctuations in long wavelength limit, $S_{cc}(o)$, in the liquid alloy was calculated from the results.

Generation of Disclination Line Dependent on Liquid Crystal's Pretilt Angle in Liquid-Crystal-on-Silicon Devices (Liquid-Crystal-on-Silicon 소자에서 액정의 프리틸트각에 따른 Disclination Line 발생)

  • We have studied how surface pretilt angle affects generation of disclination line in liquid-crystal-on silicon cells for 45$^{\circ}$-twisted nematic (TN) and vertical alignment (VA) modes with pixel size of 15$\mu\textrm{m}$. Our studies show that when the pretilt angle is increased from 0$^{\circ}$to 3$^{\circ}$ in the 45$^{\circ}$-TN cell, the disclination line at left side of on-pixel becomes weak and is well suppressed with $\theta$$\_$p/=3$^{\circ}$ although the pixel size Is decreased. In the VA cell, when the pretilt angle is decreased from 89$^{\circ}$ to 86$^{\circ}$, the disclination line at right side of the on-pixel is suppressed well and even for a smaller pixel size, it does not exist when $\theta$$\_$p/=86$^{\circ}$. The results inform that the pretilt angle strongly affects the image quality of microdisplays.

  • In this paper, we have improved a novel fast response time liquid crystal operating mode using tilt angle in the unique condition by hot-plate equipment. The new control of tilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with negative and positive dielectric anisotropy on the rubbed homeotropic polyimide (PI) using baking method by Hot-plate equipment was investigated. LC tilt angle decreased with increasing baking temperature and time. Especially, the low LC tilt angle of positive type NLC (${\Delta}n$>0) on the rubbed homeotropic PI surface by increasing temperature and time was measured. The EO characteristics of the high tilted OCB(HTOCB) mode using control of tilt angle on the homeotropic surface than that of conventional OCB cell can be improved. We suggest that the developed the HTOCB cell using control of tilt angle on the homeotropic surface is a promising technique for the achievement of a fast response time and a high contrast ratio.

  • Catalytic slurry reactors, in which a solid maintained in the rom of fine particles suspended in a liquid, are frequently used in chemical and biochemical and industries. In these processes the particle loading is normally low so that the effects of particles on the liquid-film mass transfer coefacent and the gas-liquid interface area are assumed to be negligible. But it is known from the works, amongst others, that the finely powdered activated carbon can increase the gas-liquid mass transfer significantly in surface-aerated reactors. The stirred cell (13.2cm inside diameter) contained four baffles and at the stirring speeds range of 80 ∼ 300ppm, the gas-liquid interfacial area could be considered as that of the cross section of the vessel (that is, 130.1cm2). When the stirrer speeds were increased, the effective interfacial area was slightly higher than the geometric area and was obtained experimentally from the Danckwerts plots.
