  • This study used a building model made up of cement, brick, and wood to measure temperature and relative humidity for 3 days in a closed environment with a diameter of 900 mm, and performed a comparative analysis of the effect of types of building materials on the indoor temperature environment and heat transfer characteristics. The water installed inside the building model represented the person in the room and was used to assess how the environment effects the person. Wooden building model showed the lowest heat loss due to the higher thermal insulation properties than cement and brick buildings. The thermal comfort of each building model was calculated using temperature and relative humidity, and the wooden building model created a more pleasant environment than the cement and brick building models.

  • A lot of lipreading system has been proposed to compensate the rate of speech recognition dropped in a noisy environment. Previous lipreading systems work on some specific conditions such as artificial lighting and predefined background color. In this paper, we propose a real-time lipreading system which allows the motion of a speaker and relaxes the restriction on the condition for color and lighting. The proposed system extracts face and lip region from input video sequence captured with a common PC camera and essential visual information in real-time. It recognizes utterance words by using the visual information in real-time. It uses the hue histogram model to extract face and lip region. It uses mean shift algorithm to track the face of a moving speaker. It uses PCA(Principal Component Analysis) to extract the visual information for learning and testing. Also, it uses HMM(Hidden Markov Model) as a recognition algorithm. The experimental results show that our system could get the recognition rate of 90% in case of speaker dependent lipreading and increase the rate of speech recognition up to 40~85% according to the noise level when it is combined with audio speech recognition.

  • Objective: Prevalence is a statistic of primary interest in public health. In the absence of good follow-up facilities, it is often difficult to assess the complete prevalence of cancer for a given registry area. An attempt is made to arrive at the complete prevalence including limited duration prevalence with respect of selected sites of cancer for India by fitting appropriate models to 1, 3 and 5 year cancer survival data available for selected registries of India. Methodology: Cancer survival data, available for the registries of Bhopal, Chennai, Karunagappally, and Mumbai was pooled to generate survival for the selected cancer sites. With the available data on survival for 1, 3 and 5 years, a model was fitted and the survival curve was extended beyond 5 years (up to 30 years) for each of the selected sites. This helped in generation of survival proportions by single year and thereby survival of cancer cases. With the help of estimated survived cases available year wise and the incidence, the prevalence figures were arrived for selected cancer sites and for selected periods. In our previous paper, we have dealt with the cancer sites of breast, cervix, ovary, lung, stomach and mouth (Takiar and Jayant, 2013). Results: The prevalence to incidence ratio (PI ratio) was calculated for 30 years duration for all the selected cancer sites using the model approach showing that from the knowledge of incidence and P/I ratio, the prevalence can be calculated. The validity of the approach was shown in our previous paper (Takiar and Jayant, 2013). The P/I ratios for the cancer sites of lip, tongue, oral cavity, hypopharynx, oesophagus, larynx, nhl, colon, prostate, lymphoid leukemia, myeloid leukemia were observed to be 10.26, 4.15, 5.89, 2.81, 1.87, 5.43, 5.48, 5.24, 4.61, 3.42 and 2.65, respectively. Conclusion: Cancer prevalence can be readily estimated with use of survival and incidence data.

  • With recent rapid development of computer capabilities, various technologies that can facilitate the interaction between humans and computers are being studied. The paradigm tends to change to NUI using the body such as 3D motion, haptics, and multi-touch with GUI using traditional input devices. Various studies have been conducted on transferring human movements to computers using sensors. In addition to the development of optical sensors that can acquire 3D objects, the range of applications in the industrial, medical, and user interface fields has been expanded. In this paper, I provide a model that can execute other programs through gestures instead of the mouse, which is the default input device, and control Windows based on the lip motion. To propose a model which converges with an Android application and can be controlled by various media and voice instruction functions using voice recognition and buttons through connection with a main client. It is expected that Internet media such as video and music can be controlled not only by a client computer but also by an application at a long distance and that convenient media viewing can be performed through the proposal model.

  • A serious disease in a family influences the entire family member given the fact that the members closely interact with each other. Especially in terms of pediatric nursing, study on family gains importance as the need to care of families whose children with developmental disabilities and chronic disease This study was done based on The Resiliency Model of Family Adjustment and Adaptation(McCubbin, 1991) is intended to examine the stress of parents whose children suffer from cleft lip or /and cleft palate. It also helps them to cope with the stress and analyze the relationship between the stress and coping This study used Family Inventory of Life Events and Changes (FILE) and Coping Health Inventory for Parents(CHIP) for measuring family stress and coping. The two instruments are revised to fit the social and cultural environment of Korean culture. Data collection was done from April 18, 1996 to May 18, 1996 at 8 University medical centers located in Seoul. Those who answered questionnaires were 84 parents whose children have cleft lip or /and cleft palate. SPSS PC+ was used to analyze the data collotted. Programs used for data analysis were t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient. The study is summarized as follows .1. The average score of family stress is 10.46(percentage of the full score 24.90) and 'finance and business strains'(3.25), and 'intrafamily strains'(2.65) ranked the highest. The average score of family's coping is 1.93, which is close to the answer of' moderately helpful' and they are measured to put their utmost efforts to' intergration and cooperation of family and optimistic definition on the situation'. 2. There is no significant statistical correlation between the family stress and coping. 3. Mothers show more stress than fathers in the parts of 'illness and family care strains' and 'losses'(t〓-2.34, t〓-2.32, p<.05). 4. Fathers show more willingness to cope with the stress than mothers do in the parts of' seeking social support','self-esteem','emotional comfort' 5. Mothers are more stress than fathers in the parts of family stress and its coping with it by usual traits(t〓-2.78, p<.05). Parents with religion are measured to cope more willingly than those who are not 6. Income of a family shows positive correlationship with family coping (r〓.28, p<.05). The study shows that gender difference is significant variable in studying on family stress and coping. Mothers get more stress than fathers, which has much to do with the fact that they are in charge of raising children and keeping houseworks. Accordingly, managing family crisis and its survival can be induced by giving support for the mothers, studying fathers including the rest of the family members and giving nursing care and arbitration ; religious background is also considered to be one of the important factors in family stress , judging from the relationship between family income and family's coping, caring given to suffering children is needed on societal levels. The above considerations bring up the need to have a longitudinal study of children with congenital anomaly including cleft lip or /and cleft palate and their families about family stress and coping. Resiliency programs on family system and their effectiveness and the relationship between the enlarged families with social and cultural values reflecting Korean tradition are also needed to be studied.

  • This study consists of the stimuli of a female model in her twenties with twenty-three different facial make-up and survey on the differences of them for the development of make-up color system, based on the color-sense on the Korean's skin-tone and make-up color, to enforce the efficiency of beauty education. The result of this study and the suggestion is as followed. Firstly, Familiarity, Intelligence, Fitness, Charm, Tradition and Youth were came out as the result of factor analysis of make-up color image perception. Secondly, the stimulus of bare face was evaluated as more familiar and intelligent than the one with image make-up but perceived as unhealthy and not untraditional. Thirdly, skin tone had a big impact on both in lip color that's been applied in monotonous make-up and in image make-up that had been applied in contrastive make-up. Through these results, it is confirmed that the skin tone and make-up colors were influential variables in the research on facial image perception and preference against a female model in her 20s, and also the image test and preference can be changed according to the color contrasts. This research will be used as a basic tool for the development of make-up color applying system with image perception of statics of population variables and preference research. Also it aims to suggest the alternatives to perform the present collage make-up education for more systematic and organized education.

  • The specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions in various models of the human head have been analyzed when the models are exposed to 350 MHz and 900 MHz plane waves. The numerical analysis is performed with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. A homogeneous sphere including a cylinderical neck, a homogeneous head shaped model, and a heterogeneous realistic model are used as models of human head. The incident plane wave used for these calculations is propagating from the front to the back or from the back to the front of the head model, with its E-field vector orientation being parallel to the major length of the body. The specific findings are: 1) the average SARs of the three models are similar mutually but the local SARs of them differ greatly mutually; 2) the power is deposed more deeply in the head at 350 MHz, which is roughly the resonant frequency of a human head, than at 900 MHz; 3) for a plane wave propagating from the back, "hot spot" is found in the neck region, not in the head; 4) for a plane wave propagating from the front, "hot spot" is found in the nose at 900 MHz, and in the upper part of the lip and the jaw region at 350 MHz.

  • Stereoscopic PIV measurements were made in the wind tunnel with the actual size waterjet model. The main wind tunnel provides the vehicle velocity while the secondary wind tunnel adjusts the jet issuing velocity. Experiments were performed at the range of jet to vehicle velocity ratio (JVR), 3.75 to 8.0 and the Reynolds number of 220,000 based on the jet velocity and the hydraulic diameter of the waterjet intake duct. Wall pressure distributions were measured for various JVRs. Three dimensional velocity fields were obtained at the inlet and outlet of the intake duct. It is found that severe acceleration is occurred at the lip region while deceleration is noticeable at the ramp side. The detailed three dimensional velocity fields can be used as the accurate velocity input for the CFD simulation. It is interesting to note that there are many different types of vortices in the instantaneous velocity field. It can be considered that those vortices are generated by the corner of rectangular section of the intake and Gortler vortices due to the curved wall. However, typical secondary flow with a pair of counter rotating vortex pair is clearly seen in the ensemble averaged velocity field.

  • In this paper. we Present an estimation method of a face pose by using two camera images. First, it finds corresponding facial feature points of eyebrow, eye and lip from two images After that, it computes three dimensional location of the facial feature points by using the triangulation method of stereo vision techniques. Next. it makes a triangle by using the extracted facial feature points and computes the surface normal vector of the triangle. The surface normal of the triangle represents the direction of the face. We applied the computed face pose to display a 3D face model. The experimental results show that the proposed method extracts correct face pose.
