This paper proposes an efficient sampled-data controller design technique for formation flying. To deal with the nonlinearity in the formation flying dynamics and to obtain a linear, rather than affine, model, we utilize the optimal linearization technique. The digital redesign technique is then developed based on the optimal linear model and formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Simulation results show the advantage of the proposed methodology over the conventional controller emulation technique.

In this paper, the feedback linearization technique is used with the sliding mode control for nonlinear system. The combination of these two control techniques can be achieved by proposing a novel sliding surface which has the nonminal dynamics of the original system controlled by feedback linearization technique. The noble design of the sliding surface is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial sliding function equal to zero
A new statistical linearization technique for nonlinear system called covariance matching method is proposed in this paper. The covariance matching method makes the mean and variance of an approximated output be identical real functional output, and the distribution of the approximated output have identical shape with a given random input. Also, the covariance matching method can be easily implemented for statistical analysis of nonlinear systems with a combination of linear system covariance analysis.

A new equivalent linearization technique is proposed for a friction damper-brace system (FDBS) idealized as a elastoplastic system. The equivalent linearization technique utilizes secant stiffness and dissipated energy defined by the probability distribution of the extremal displacement of the FDBS. In addition, a conversion scheme is proposed so that an equivalent linear system is designed first and converted to the FDBS. For comparative study, an existing model update technique based on system identification is modified in a form appropriate to update single element. For the purpose of verification, shaking table tests of a small scale three-story shear building model, in which a rotational FDBS is installed, are conducted and equivalent linear systems are obtained using the proposed technique and the model update technique. Complex eigenvalue analysis is conducted for those equivalent linear systems, and the natural frequencies and modal damping ratios are compared with those obtained from system identification. Additionally, RMS and peak responses obtained from time history analysis of the equivalent linear systems are compared with measured ones.

An adaptive input-output linearization technique for a robust speed control of a brushless C(BLDC) motor is presented. By using this technique, the nonlinear moro model can be effectively linearized in Brunovski canonical form, an the desired speed dynamics can be obtained based on the linearized model. This control technique, however, gives an undesirable output performance under the mismatch of the system parameters and load conditions caused by the incomplete linearization. for the robust output response, the controller parameters will be estimated by a model reference adaptive technique where the disturbance torque and flux linkage are estimated. The adaptation laws are derived by the Popov's hyperstability theory nd positivity concept. The proposed control scheme is implemented on a BLDC motor using the software of DSP TMS320C30 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative simualtions and experiments.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of an MR fluid damper for seismic vibration control of a structure in terms of equivalent linear damping based on linearization technique and to experimentally verify the results from linearization technique by comparing them to those from system identification testing of a building structure with the MR damper. First, among various models for the MR damper, the equivalent damping is estimated for the Bingham model which is mathematically simple. Second, the transfer function of a building structure with the MR damper is obtained by performing shaking table tests and the damping matrices of the structure are constructed using the modal information obtained by the transfer function. It is observed that the damping mathematically estimated using linearization technique for the Bingham model matches well with the damping coefficient experimentally obtained by system identification.

An equivalent linearization technique based on Rayleigh peak distribution for friction damper and brace system (FDBS) under stochastic excitation is proposed. For verification, shaking table test of a small scale 3-story building model with the FDBS is conducted for various slip moment levels. Using experimental result, equivalent linearization of the FDBS is conducted based on Rayleigh peak distribution, which is compared with measured peak distribution. For comparative study, model updating technique is applied based on identified modal properties. Finally, complex modal analysis and time history analysis for the obtained equivalent linear systems are conducted and compared with experimental result

This paper addresses a robust controller design technique for a nonlinear underwater glider with disturbances. We consider the buoyancy and pitching moment as control inputs, which generate additional nonlinearity on the plant dynamics. To deal with the nonlinearity, we utilize the optimal linearization technique. The conditions for the optimal linearization and the controller design are formulated in terms of matrix inequalities. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through a simulation.
This paper describes the application of the recently developed feedback linearization technique to designing a new Command to Line-of-Sight (CLOS) guidance law. We show that the CLOS guidance problem can be formulated as a tracking problem. Then, using the feedback input-output linearization technique, we find a new 3dimensional CLOS guidance law that can assure zero miss distance for a randomly maneuvering target. It sheds light on the feedforward acceleration compensation terms used in the conventional CLOS guidance laws to improve the performance. To illustrate further the significance of our result, simulation results are given.

An adaptive input-output linearization technique of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor with a specified output dynamic performance is proposed. The adaptive parameter estimation is achieved by a model reference adaptive technique where the stator resistance and the magnitude of flux linkage can be estimated with the current dynamic model and state observer. Using these estimated parameters, the linearizing control inputs are calculated. With these control inputs, the input-output linearization is performed and the load torque is estimated. The adaptation laws are derived by the Popov's hyperstability theory and the positivity concept. The robustness and the output dynamic performance of the proposed control scheme are verified through the computer simulations.
