  • A dispered power system means a little bit of small power generation equipment located near the power-damend areas. Due to no power supply line, such a power source is very favorable for the decrease in loss of electric power supply, in comparison to the giantly focused power source, Because of small power source, this power source also corresponds promptly to the variation of power demend. On the basis of energy saving, environmental reservation, and utilization of natural or unused energy, solar power plants can be introduced into the residence section of cities and small water or wind-power plants near the urban areas. In case of Korea, some wind farm have been introduced into Cheju island, Condensed introduction of several small power sources into an used distribution line may, however, result in a big problem, it is, therefore, necessary that protective-cooporative plans between power quality and distribution line should be introduced for efficient utilization of KEPCO distribution system.

  • The design of a ground-source heat pump system includes specifications for a ground loop heat exchanger where the heat transfer rate depends on the effective thermal conductivity of the ground and the effective thermal resistance of the borehole. To evaluate these heat transfer properties, in-situ thermal response tests on four vertical test boreholes with different grouting materials were conducted by adding a monitored amount of heat to circulating water. The line-source method is applied to the temperature rise in an in-situ test and extended to also give an estimate of borehole effective thermal resistance. The effect of increasing thermal conductivity of the grouting materials from 0.818 to $1.104W/m^{\circ}C$ resulted in overall increases in effective thermal conductivity by 15.8 to 56.3% and reductions in effective thermal resistance by 13.0 to 31.1%.

  • In this paper, a high-performance current control for the single-phase PWM converter under distorted source voltages is proposed using a composite observer. By applying the composite observer, the fundamental and high-order harmonic components of the source voltage and current are extracted without a delay. The extracted fundamental component is used for a phase-lock loop (PLL) system to detect the phase angle of the source voltage. A multi-PR (proportional-resonant) controller is employed to regulate the single-phase line current. The high-order harmonic components of the line current are easily eliminated, resulting in the sinusoidal line current. The simulation and experimental results have verified the validity of the proposed method.

  • We present a broad-bandwidth comb-spacing-swept source (CSWS) based on a differential polarization delay line (DPDL) for interferometric three-dimensional (3D) imaging. The comb spacing of the CSWS is repeatedly swept by the tunable DPDL in the multiwavelength source to provide depth-scanning optical coherence tomography (OCT). As the polarization differential delay of the DPDL is tuned from 5 to 15 ps, the comb spacing along the wavelength continuously varies from 1.6 to 0.53 nm, respectively. The wavelength range of various semiconductor optical amplifiers and the cavity feedback ratio of the tunable fiber coupler are experimentally selected to obtain optimal conditions for a broader 3-dB bandwidth of the multiwavelength spectrum and thus provide a higher axial resolution of $35{\mu}m$ in interferometric OCT imaging. The proposed CSWS-OCT has a simple imaging interferometer configuration without reference-path scanning and a simple imaging process without the complex Fourier transform. 3D surface images of a via-hole structure on a printed circuit board and the top surface of a coin were acquired.

  • In the beam pattern synthesis problem using line source, the relationship between source distribution function and beam pattern may be represented by Fourier transform pair. In this paper, a general method to synthesize the line source distribution for a desired lobe-like beam pattern is presented by developing the nonlinear inversion method based on an iterative sampling technique. This method can be applied to the synthesis of continuously distributed dielectric constants satisfying the desired inverse scattering coefficient patterns when illuminating by TE-polarized and TM-polarized plane waves to arbitrary dielectric material. Furthermore this method can also be applied to the synthesis of transmission line with arbitrary reflection coefficient patterns. Some bandstop spatial filter and dispersive transmission line filter are illustrated for generality.

  • Line source model is commonly used in analyzing the data obtained from thermal response test to estimate the effective soil formation thermal conductivity. In the application of line source model some part of initial data must be ignored in order to achieve more accurate result. The period of time for this initial data is called initial ignoring time(IIT) in this paper. However there has been no definite rule in determining this initial ignoring time. Therefore line source model requires experienced analyzer to select the useful data, which is somewhat subjective. One method often suggested is the calculation of IIT with non dimensional time $\tau=5$. However, this is a very theoretical result derived from a system of perfect line source model, which is somewhat different from the real system. A new method to determine IIT is presented in this study. This method requires error estimation first and IIT can be decided from the results of error estimation. This method is applied in the analysis of field test data and shows better result than the one obtained from the method using non dimensional time mentioned above as shown in Table 2.

  • This paper presents a constrained-based routing (CBR) algorithm called, Dynamic Possible Path per Link (D-PPL) routing algorithm, for MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks. In MPLS on-line routing, future traffics are unknown and network resource is limited. Therefore many routing algorithms such as Minimum Hop Algorithm (MHA), Widest Shortest Path (WSP), Dynamic Link Weight (DLW), Minimum Interference Routing Algorithm (MIRA), Profiled-Based Routing (PBR), Possible Path per Link (PPL) and Residual bandwidth integrated - Possible Path per Link (R-PPL) are proposed in order to improve network throughput and reduce rejection probability. MIRA is the first algorithm that introduces interference level avoidance between source-destination node pairs by integrating topology information or address of source-destination node pairs into the routing calculation. From its results, MIRA improves lower rejection probability performance. Nevertheless, MIRA suffer from its high routing complexity which could be considered as NP-Complete problem. In PBR, complexity of on-line routing is reduced comparing to those of MIRA, because link weights are off-line calculated by statistical profile of history traffics. However, because of dynamic of traffic nature, PBR maybe unsuitable for MPLS on-line routing. Also, both PPL and R-PPL routing algorithm we formerly proposed, are algorithms that achieve reduction of interference level among source-destination node pairs, rejection probability and routing complexity. Again, those previously proposed algorithms do not take into account the dynamic nature of traffic load. In fact, future traffics are unknown, but, amount of previous traffic over link can be measured. Therefore, this is the motivation of our proposed algorithm, the D-PPL. The D-PPL algorithm is improved based on the R-PPL routing algorithm by integrating traffic-per-link parameters. The parameters are periodically updated and are dynamically changed depended on current incoming traffic. The D-PPL tries to reserve residual bandwidth to service future request by avoid routing through those high traffic-per-link parameters. We have developed extensive MATLAB simulator to evaluate performance of the D-PPL. From simulation results, the D-PPL improves performance of MPLS on-line routing in terms of rejection probability and total throughput.

  • This paper describes the implemenation of localization and visualization scheme to find out an ultrasonic source caused by defects of a power distribution line equipment. To increase the fault detection performance, $2{\times}4$ sensor array is configured with MEMS ultrasonic sensors, and from the sensor signals aquired, the azimuth and elevation angles of the ultrasonic source is estimated based on the delay-sum beam forming method. Also, to visualize the estimated location, it is marked on the background image. Experimental results show applicability of the present technique.

  • A new control method for single-phase shunt active power line conditioners(APLC's) operated under zero average power consumption is proposed in this paper. The amplitude of the sinusoidal source current which is in-phase with the source voltage can be determined from the average value of the instantaneous load power. Then the command current for the shunt APLC is obtained by subtraction the source current from the load current. Neither bulky filter nor time-consuming computation is required. The shunt power compensator supplies all the harmonics of he load current and the source only supplies the fundamental component,. Experimental results on a prototype verify the feasibility of the presented scheme,

  • A new in-line method for sampling neutrons emitted in (${\alpha}$,n) reactions based on alpha particle source information has been developed for continuous-energy Monte Carlo simulations. The new method uses a continuous-slowing-down model coupled with (${\alpha}$,n) cross section data to precompute the expected neutron yield over the alpha particle lifetime. This eliminates the complexity and computational cost associated with explicit charged particle transport. When combined with an integrated alpha particle decay source sampling capability, the proposed method provides an efficient and accurate method for sampling (${\alpha}$,n) neutrons based solely on nuclide inventories in the problem, with no additional user input required. Results from several example calculations show that the proposed method reproduces the (${\alpha}$,n) neutron yields and energy spectra from reference experiments and calculations.
