Case Reports of Diplopia and Limitation of Eye Movement in Idiopathic Abducens Nerve Palsy Patient Treated with Korean Medicine (복시를 동반하는 특발성 외전신경마비 한의 치험 2례)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medicine treatment on diplopia and limitation of eye movement in Idiopathic abducens nerve palsy. Methods : Two patients were treated with acupuncture and herbal medicines who has been suffering from diplopia and limitation of eye movement. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we everyday checked distance(cm) from middle of the forehead to occurring diplopia, limitation of abduction(Scott and Kraft grade) and other symptoms(visual analogue sacle). Results : After treatment, the limitation of eye movement and diplopia were improved remarkably even other symptoms. Conclusions : This study shows us that the Korean medicine treatments are effective on diplopia and limitation of eye movement due to idiopathic abducens nerve palsy.

A Study on the Criteria for Applying the Obstacle Limitation Surface of the UAM Vertiport (UAM 수직이착륙장(Vertiport)의 장애물제한표면 적용 기준에 대한 연구)

  • In recent years, UAM (Urban Air Mobility) has emerged as a solution to these urbanization problems, and many related reports and diverse prospects have been reported. UAM flights are planned to take off and land at a Vertiport located in the city center and fly along a pre-established corridor. In order for UAM to operate safely in the city center, it must ensure a safe flight path that avoids the buildings in the city center and many surrounding obstacles. Therefore, in this study, we compared and examined the installation standards of the obstacle limitation surface necessary for UAM to take off and land safely at the Vertiport. First, we analyzed the helicopter obstacle limitation surfaces in Japan and overseas, and the UAM Vertiport installation standards and obstacle limitation surface application standards recently announced at the FAA and EASA. It identified differences and similarities between heliport and Vertiport, and considered improvements to domestic helicopter obstacle limitation surfaces and criteria that could meet FAA and EASA standards.

Mass Production of Poly(3-Hydroxybutyrate) by Fed-Batch Cultures of Ralstonia eutropha with Nitrogen and Phosphate Limitation

  • For mass production of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), high cell density cultures of Ralstonia eutropha were carried out in 2.5-1 and 60-1 fermentors by two fed-batch culture techniques of nitrogen and phosphate limitation. When the nitrogen limitation technique was employed using both an on-line glucose monitoring and control system, a high concentration level of PHB (121g/l) was obtained in the small-scale fermentor of 2.5 1. However, the PHB concentration obtained in a large-scale fermentor of 60 1 only turned out to be 60g/l. In contrast, when another fed-batch culture technique of the phosphate-limitation employing dissolved oxygen (DO) stat glucose feeding was used, a large amount of PHB was successfully produced in both 60-1 and 2.5-1 fermentors. In a 2.5-1 fermentor, concentrations of PHB and cells obtained in 58 h were 175 and 210 g/l, respectively, which corresponded to the PHB productivity level of 3.02 g/l/h. In a 60-1 fermentor, a final cell concentration of 221 g/l and a PHB concentration of 180 g/l with PHB productivity level of 3.75 g/l/h were obtained in 48h. PHB content and yield from glucose were 81% and 0.38g PHB/g glucose, respectively. These data suggest that the phosphate limitation technique is more effective compared to nitrogen limitation in the mass production of PHB by R. eutropha of a large scale.

Prevalence of Diplopia and Extraocular Movement Limitation according to the Location of Isolated Pure Blowout Fractures

  • Background : Isolated pure blowout fractures are clinically important because they are the main cause of serious complications such as diplopia and limitation of extraocular movement. Many reports have described the incidence of blowout fractures associated with diplopia and limitation of extraocular movement; however, no studies have statistically analyzed this relationship. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the correlation between the location of isolated pure blowout fractures and orbital symptoms such as diplopia and limitation of extraocular movement. Methods : We enrolled a total of 354 patients who had been diagnosed with isolated pure blowout fractures, based on computed tomography, from June 2008 to November 2011. Medical records were reviewed, and the prevalence of extraocular movement limitations and diplopia were determined. Results : There were 14 patients with extraocular movement limitation and 58 patients complained of diplopia. Extraocular movement limitation was associated with the following findings, in decreasing order of frequency: floor fracture (7.1%), extended fracture (3.6%), and medial wall (1.7%). However, there was no significant difference among the types of fractures (P=0.60). Diplopia was more commonly associated with floor fractures (21.4%) and extended type fractures (23.6%) than medial wall fractures (10.4%). The difference was statistically significant (Bonferroni-corrected chi-squared test P<0.016). Conclusions : Data indicate that extended type fractures and orbital floor fractures tend to cause diplopia more commonly than medial wall fractures. However, extraocular movement limitation was not found to be dependent on the location of the orbital wall fracture.

A Study on the Determination of Formaldehyde Effluent Limitation in the Industrial Wastewater (산업계 배출수에서 포름알데히드의 배출허용기준 설정방안 고찰)

  • This study looked at how to establish effluent limitation standards for formaldehyde, a toxic chemical widely used in industries. To this end, we reviewed Water Quality Based Effluent Limitation (WQBEL), Technology Based Effluent Limitation (TBEL), and water quality criteria for protection of human health and aquatic organism. Based on the results, we estimated formaldehyde effluent limitation standards appropriate to control water quality of industrial wastewater in Korea. However, this study has limits due to the lack of some data necessary in estimating formaldehyde effluent limitation. For example, although water quality criteria based on non-carcinogenic properties of formaldehyde were calculated, those based on carcinogenic properties were not be able to estimate because of the absence of applicable cancer potency factor q1. Without applicable factor, we calculated water quality standards for formaldehyde based on water quality criteria of advanced countries including the United States, while with no water quality standard we referred to applicable drinking water quality standards of other countries. For eco-toxicity based on water quality criteria, proper figures could not be calculated since there have been few reliable data.

Prevalence of Activity Limitation in Korea's Older Adults Population (한국 노인의 활동제한 유병율)

  • This study was to identify the prevalence rate of the limitation of activity, the reasons for activity limitation, association with activity limitation and general characteristics among older adults in Korea's population. Data were extracted from the $7^{th}$ Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The number of participants were 1,578 older adults who aged 65 years over. SPSS program (version 18.0) was used for analyzing on frequency, Chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis of the data. The total prevalence rate of activity limitation among Korea's population was 19.6% in 2016. The prevalence rate of the reasons for activity limitation in Korea was highest for neck and back problems(19.8%), followed by arthritis and rheumatism(17.1%). The prevalence rate of activity limitation was statistically significant associated with age and education level, respectively. In conclusion, Age, educational level, and musculoskeletal diseases such as problems related to back and neck, arthritis and rheumatism could be significant risk factors for activity limitations in older adults who aged 65 years over. These findings could be useful as evidence-based data for relieving the prevalence rate of activity limitation and the prevention and management of activity limitations in Korea population.

Assessing Activity Limitation Among Cancer Survivors in Korea Using Data from a Nationwide Survey

  • Background: More than 1 million cancer survivors reside in Korea. We here investigated activity limitations of cancer survivors compared to controls without a history of cancer. Materials and Methods: Using the 4th and 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2012) data, we identified 1,155 adult cancer survivors. Activity limitations were defined as limitation in activities of daily living, experience of lying in a sickbed, and number of days lying in a sickbed during the last month. Descriptive analysis and multiple logistic regression compared these measures for survivors and controls by sex and age groups. Results: Approximately 29.4% of cancer survivors reported limitation in activities of daily living, 14.6% experienced lying in a sickbed, and 4.3% experienced more than 15 days lying in a sickbed during the last month. After controlling for demographic and health-related factors, cancer survivors were more likely to report activity limitation than controls. The associations were similar across sex and age groups. Conclusions: Cancer survivors have increased activity limitation compared to controls and these limitations persist across sex and age. Targeted interventions and improved management are essential for improving cancer survivor daily life.

Calculation and application of the location-based speed profile of ATO considering the speed limitation and the jerk limitation (가속도한계 및 저크한계를 고려한 열차자동운전장치의 위치기반 속도프로파일의 계산 및 적용)

  • This paper describes the calculation and application of the speed profile for the train speed control when the train is operated by ATO(Automatic Train Operation). We propose a speed profile calculation method considering the speed limitation and the jerk limitation, in order to maintain the quality of the train automatic operation. In previous works, ATO calculates a desired speed profile along the time, and controls the train to follow the profile. In this case, it may be hard to follow the restrictive speed along the location or to stop the train with a low location error, because of the difference between the desired location at each time and the real location of the train due to the control error. In the proposed method in this paper, we calculate a desired speed profile along the time considering the speed and jerk limitation first, and derive a speed profile along the location using it. If the restrictive speed profile is changed or the train speed strayed from the speed profile, ATO system calculates new speed profile and applies it immediately. Because ATO system controls the train speed based on the train location, the accuracy of the train location control can be improved. A simulation system for the test of the automatic train operation using this method is designed.

A Study on the Heat Transport Limitations of a PFC(FC-72) Two-Phase Closed Thermosyphon for Cooling Power Semiconductors (전력변환 반도체 냉각용 PFC(FC-72) 밀폐형 2상 열사이폰의 열전달 한계에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the heat transport limitations of a two-phase closed thermosyphon were investigated. For the test, a two-phase closed thermosyphon ($L_t/: 600 mm,\;L_e:105mm,\;L_a:75mm,\;L_c:420mm,\;D_o:22.2mm,$ container: copper (inner grooved surface), working fluid: PFC ($C_6F_14$) was fabricated with a reservoir that can change the fill charge ratio. The following was imposed as the factors on the heat transport limitations of a two-phase closed thermosyphon. 1) Fill charge ratio of the working fluid. 2) Tilt angle of the longitudinal axis. From tile experimental data, some results were obtained as follows. When the fill charge ratio was relatively small ($\psi$20%), the heat transport limitation occurred about 100W by dry-out limitation. However over 40%, it shelved nearly constant value (500 W) by flooding limitation. The heat transport limitation according to the tilt angle increased smoothly until the tilt angle was $60^{\circ}$,/TEX>, after then decreased slowly.

Searching through the Legal Requirements of Airfield's Obstacle Limitation Surface for Extension of Goheung Aviation Test Center (고흥항공센터 확장을 위한 비행장 장애물 제한표면의 법적요건 조사)

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) has accomplished the planning study for setting up the mid-long term development plan of Goheung Aviation Test Center for the extensive use. In the future the aviation center will have a role of the complex center for the flight test, component test and R&D in Korea. KARI searches the legal requirements and informations for constructing the aviation test airfield in Goheung. Aviation law describes a lot of requirements to construct an airfield and the airfield also needs runway, equipments/facilities, obstacle limitation surfaces/distances, limitation altitudes and air space etc.. In this study the research results for the obstacle limitation Surface are mainly presented relating to the existing runway and the new large-scaled runway in Goheung.
