  • Relative intensities of photons emitted from tilted carbon foils have been measured in the wavelength region 300800 nm by 0,6-2,4 MeV $H^{+}\;and\;He^{+}$ ion impacts, Ions were directed onto target surfaces at tilt angles with respect to the sllrface normal, Experimental results support the model that the observed continuum radiation is emitted from the exited carbon foil itself. At each incident projectile energy, the photon intensities of continuum spectra for tilted carbon foi Is were compatred to the stoppi ng powers of carbon for $H^{+}\;and\;He^{+}$ ions, It was found that the photon emission intensity for $H^{+}$ ion is linearly proportional to the stopping power, whereas that for $He^{+}$ ions is proportional to a higher power of the stopping power, and that this tendency increases wi th decreasing velocity of the projectiIes[1, 2].[1, 2].

  • Co and Fe doped multi-wall carbon nano-tubes (MWCNTs) synthesized by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique are investigated with synchrotron radiations at Pohang Light Source (PAL) and European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). Near edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy (NEXAFS) measurement at C K, Co $L_{3,2}$ and Fe $L_{3,2}$-edges, and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at Co and Fe $L_{3,2}$-edges have been carried at 7B1 XAS KIST and 2A MS beamline, respectively, to understand the electronic structure and responsible magnetic interactions at room temperature. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at C K-edge shows significant p-bonding and Co and Fe L-edges proves the presence of $Co^{2+}$ and $Fe^{2+}$ in octahedral symmetry. Co and Fe doped MWCNTs show good XMCD spectra at 300K. The effect on the magnetism is also studied through swift heavy ion (SHI) radiations and magnetism is found enhanced and change in the electronic structure in Co-CNTs is investigated.

  • 본 연구에서는 Molybdenum oxide (MoOx)-doped 4,4',4"-tris[2-naphthyl(amino)] triphenylamine(2-TNATA)의 P-doping에 의한 hole ohmic contact과 fullerene (C60)/lithium (LiF)의 electron ohmic contact에 의한 All Ohmic contact를 이용한 유기 발광 다이오드 (OLEDs)의 광저항 특성의 향상을 설명한다.

  • 4-(Dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM) derivatives were synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation. They are red-emitting materials for OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) composed of electron donor of aminostyryl groups and electron acceptor of two cyano(nitrile)groups in a conjugated structure. The structural properties of reaction products were analyzed by FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ spectroscopy. The thermal stabilities and reactivities were measured by melting points and yields. The UV-visible and PL properties can be determined by exitation and emission spectra, respectively.

  • Color correction methods of chromaticity coordinates using Color Matching Function (CMF) were studied to develop a device-independent portable-type urine analyzer. The reflection spectra were measured for the degrees of 10 test items of the urine reagent strip (urine strip) to develop a portable-type urine analyzer. A computer simulation was performed to quantitatively distinguish the color reactions of the urine system, by using the spectral power distribution of Light Emitting Diode(LED), the reflection of a urine strip, and spectral sensitivity of a photodiode. To develop a device-independent system, chromaticity coordinates were modified to reduce the color deviations in the urine strip, by using the temperature compensation of LED and the color transformation by CMF. The experimental values obtained by developed urine system exhibited the accuracy above 95% for all color samples.

  • Photoresponsive arylether dendrimers Bis-azo-Gn(3,5) 1a-1c and Bis-azo-Gn(3,4,5) 2a-2c (n = 1-3) with an azobenzene unit at the core and several vinyl groups (3,5-bis(but-3-enyloxy)phenyl groups or 3,4,5-tris(but-3- enyloxy)phenyl groups) at the periphery have been prepared. Their structures and reversible trans-cis isomerization behaviors have been investigated by $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, MALDI-TOF-Mass, and UV-vis spectra. All six azobenzene-cored dendrimers carried out very fast trans $\rightarrow$ cis photoisomerization on irradiation of 350 nm light and reached to the photostationary state within 180 s. During the dark incubation, slow thermal back reversion from cis to trans form is observed for all six dendrimers and is completed within 3 days for 1a-1c and 1 day for 2a-2c. Isomerization efficiency decreases with increasing generation. However, the initial reaction rates of both trans $\rightarrow$ cis photochemical isomerization and cis $\rightarrow$ trans thermal isomerization increases significantly with increasing generation for dendrimers for 1a-1c but only slightly for 2a-2c.

  • The adsorption structures of threonine on the Ge(100) surface were investigated using core-level photoemission spectroscopy (CLPES) in conjunction with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. CLPES measurements were performed to identify the experimentally preferred adsorption structure. The preferred structure indicated the relative reactivities of the carboxyl and hydroxymethyl groups as electron donors to the Ge(100) surface during adsorption. The core-level C 1s, N 1s, and O 1s CLPES spectra indicated that the carboxyl oxygen competed more strongly with the hydroxymethyl oxygen during the adsorption reaction. Three among six possible adsorption structures were identified as energetically favorable using DFT calculation methods that considered the inter- and intra-bonding configurations upon adsorption onto the Ge(100) surface. These structures were O-H dissociated N dative inter bonding, O-H dissociated N dative intra bonding, O-H dissociation bonding. One of the adsorption structures: O-H dissociated N dative inter bonding was predicted to be stable in light of the transition state energies. We thus confirmed that the most favorable adsorption structure is the O-H dissociated N dative-inter bonding structure using CLPES and DFT calculation.

  • Studies were performed on preparation of organic-inorganic hybrid silica dye in a dispersing ink system. The silica was subjected to surface modification using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) in order to promote the chemical reactivity of the raw silica. On the surfaces of the aminosilane-functionalised silica, red vinylsulfone-containing azo dye was adsorbed. The dye was found to have chemically reacted with the aminosilane-grafted silica surface, which was proven by FT-IR spectra. Studies on morphology and microstructure were performed employing scanning electron microscopy. The SEM micrographs and particle size distributions showed that a homogeneous pigment can be obtained employing silica as a core. Particle size distribution was also examined using the technique of dynamic light scattering. The ensuing pigment was subjected to various physicochemical evaluation such as inkjet property, storage stability, color change as inkjet ink using printer, spectrophotometric, microscopic techniques. Studies on hybrid dyes from the silica surface demonstrated that, in general, stable pigments for inkjet dispersion ink were obtained.

  • The presence of dark energy, suggested from Type Ia supernovae (SNe) cosmology, is the most pronounced astronomical discovery made during the past decade. The basic assumption of this discovery is that the look-back time evolution of SNe luminosity would be negligible after light-curve correction. Several recent works, however, show that there are some differences in Hubble residual among host galaxies having different morphology and mass, indicating that SNe luminosity might be affected by population age. In order to investigate this more directly, we are continuing the YONSEI (YOnsei Nearby Supernovae Evolution Investigation) project, where we are obtaining low-resolution spectra of some 60 nearby early-type host galaxies. The early-type galaxies are preferred because the mean population ages and metallicities can be estimated from the absorption lines, and they are less affected by dust extinction. In this talk, we will report our progress in determining the ages and metallicities of host galaxies to investigate their correlation with the Hubble residual.

  • To investigate the effect of preparing condition on the physical properties of carbon nanotubes suitable for optical applications, carbon nanotubes were synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition using Ni particles as a catalyst on stainless steel substrate and acetylene as a reactant gas. To examine the physical and optical properties, SEM, TEM, Ram an, UV-visible, and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used. The physical properties of carbon nanotubes such as diameter, degree of growth density and morphology were closely related to such experimental conditions as Ni particle size, growing pressure, and etching condit on of Ni particles, it appeared from the light absorbance and photoluminescence spectra of carbon nanotube mixture prepared with an addition of a photopolymer, P3HT(Poly(3-hexylthIop hene)) that carbon nanotube could do a role as a kind of electron acceptor for solar cell application.
