  • Water dispersible ZnS:Mn nanocrystals were synthesized by capping the surface of the nanocrystals with four kinds of aminoacids ligands: arginine, cystein, histidine, and methionine. The aminoacids capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystal powders were characterized by XRD, HR-TEM, EDXS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The optical properties of the aminoacids capped ZnS:Mn colloidal nanocrystals were also measured by UV/Vis and solution photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies in aqueous solvents. The solution PL spectra showed broad emission peaks around 575 nm (orange light emissions) with PL efficiencies in the range of 4.4 to 7.1%. The measured particle sizes for the aminoacid capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystals by HR-TEM images were in the range of 5.3 to 11.7 nm.

  • High Frequency Peakers (HFPs) are radio-loud Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), which are regarded as being in the earliest evolutionary phase (102-103 years) of radio galaxies. They are expected to be small in size (< ~1 kpc) compared to their host galaxies (~a few 10s kpc), and have convex spectra, which are peaking at high radio frequency (> 5 GHz). Their size and spectral shape are the most obvious supporting evidence of extremely young ages. HFPs are therefore ideal targets to probe the earliest stage of radio sources. To date however, the young radio source classification has been relying mainly on the spectral shape which usually does not cover high enough frequencies where the true peak flux is located. Hence HFPs are often confused with blazars which may show a similar spectral shape and apparent compactness but are a somewhat evolved form of AGNs. Therefore, we have been challenging to identify HFPs among the sample of 19 candidates using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) which enables us to extend the radio spectrum baseline up to 22 and 43 GHz. These are higher than the frequencies used in most previous studies of HFPs, allowing us to select genuine HFPs. By long-term monitoring of 18 epochs, we have also inspected the variability of the sample to select out blazars which are highly variable yet with a similar radio spectrum. In this work, we present the light curves and spectral properties of the HFP candidates. We discuss the results of our re-identification of HFPs.

  • This study is part of a project to develop and improve mooring systems for oceanographic use that include an electro-optical sensor, 1MHz Nortek Aquadopp Doppler Profiler and AIRMAR multipurpose Sensor. The adaption of Doppler current profilers to measure directional wave spectra has provided a new instrumentation approach to coastal and nearshore oceanographic studies. The HEIOB is developed are light weight and of a compact design, and can be easily installed in marine environment. Since there are no base station and gateways in marine environments, we selected CDMA and Orbcomm to send the data information. Therefore, the data can be sent by either e-mail service or Short Message Service (SMS). This paper will present some of scientific sensor results regarding real-time oceanographic and meteorological parameters such as wind spend, wind direction, wave direction, and etc. The modeling and test results highlight the engineering challenges associated with designing these systems for long lifetimes. It can also be used in future application to build wave observation buoy network in real-time using multiple ubiquitous buoys that share wave data and allow analysis of multipoint, multi-layer wave profiler.

  • In this study, ZnTe : S single crystal thin films substituted by sulfur were grown on GaAs (100) substrates by hot-wall epitaxy. The photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of ZnTe : S single crystal thin films was measured to investigate the effects due to sulfur atoms in the ZnTe layer. The Peak of 2.339 eV identified as the isoelectronic center was observed in low temperature PL spectrum, but PL spectra which the origin had not been well-explained were not observed. Temperature dependence of PL intensities of the light hole free exciton was explained by extrinsic self-trapping. Besides it is reported that the emission lines near absorption edge at room temperature were observed.

  • We report the synthesis and characterization of new alkoxy substituted spirobifluorene derivatives. The spiro compounds having alkoxy hydrocarbon chains were readily soluble in common organic solvents, having improved film-forming properties and had a significantly reduced tendency to crystallize, resulting in increasing their service lifetime. The results of DSC showed that it was amorphous. The optical and electroluminescent spectra were characterized. Electroluminescence (EL) properties of three-layer light emitting diodes (LED) of $ITO/TPD/spirobifluorene/Alq_3/LiF/Al$ as the active layer were characterized. Blue emission peaking of the EL spectrum of the three-layer device at 402 nm and a luminance of 3,125 $cd/m^2$ were achieved at a drive voltage 12.8 V. The luminous efficiency was obtained to be 1.7 lm/W. The color coordinate in CIE chromaticity is (0.16, 0.09), which is in a pure blue region. The external quantum efficiency was obtained to be 2.0%. The results indicate that the spirobifluorene compounds having alkoxy hydrocarbon chains are strongly potential blue emitters for LED applications.

  • Recently, organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs) is widely used as one of the information display techniques. We synthesized 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole($Zn(HPB)_2$). We studied the luminescent properties of OLEDs using $Zn(HPB)_2$. The ionization potential(IP) and the electron affinity(EA) of $Zn(HPB)_2$ investigated using cyclic-voltammetry(C-V). The IP and EA were 6.5 eV and 3.0 eV, respectively. The PL and EL spectra of $Zn(HPB)_2$ were observed at the wavelength of 450 nm. We used $Zn(HPB)_2$ as an emitting layer and hole blocking layer. At the experiment about hole blocking effect, we inserted $Zn(HPB)_2$ between emiting material layer(EML) and cathode, and between hole transport layer(HTL) and emitting material layer(EML). We measured current density-voltage and luminance-voltage characteristics at room temperature.

  • Maxwell displacement current (MDC) measuring technique has been applied on the study of monolayers of fatty acid and polyamic acid mixture. The displacement current was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Displacement current was generated when the area per molecule was about 132 $^2$and 115 $^2$just before the initial rise of the surface pressure during the 1st and 2nd mixed monolayer compressions cycle, respectively. Maxwell displacement currents were investigated in connection with mixed monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles. Ultra thin film of fatty acid and polyamic acid mixture was prepared on the hydrophilic quartz plate by Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method. The precursor LB film was heated in a vacuum dry oven at 12$0^{\circ}C$ in order to convert it into the LB film of polyimide. The absorption spectra of LB films were also induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation.

  • To satisfy the demand for small size, light weight. high density power supply, the switching frequency of DC/DC converters has been increased. The PWM control of the conventional SMPS have a switching frequency that a level of the conducted noise spectra contribute to switching frequency band. So the electronic equipment is not only affected from that but is restricted to internal regulation like CISPR, FCC, and VDE. In this paper, we analyzed Bi-FM. Bi-FM is two fixed switching frequency with a modulation frequency. So emission spectrum of Bi-FM control signal is spreaded and spectral power level is reduced. In this paper, we analyze the spectral analysis of Bi-FM control signal and the spectral comparison between the PWM control and Bi-FM control. And we confirm that reduced the spectrum power level through simulation using Pspice and experiment.

  • We carried out this subject to observe electrochemical properties of 1,2-dioleoyl-sn- glycero-3-phosphocholine(DOPC) mixed with fatty acid containing azobenzene group by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode in $NaClO_4$ solution. We investigated the photoisomerization and electrochemical property of the organic ultra thin film of fatty acid containing azobenzene was prepared on the hydrophilic ITO(idium tin oxide) glass plate by LB method. As a result, the absorption spectra of BASH and DOPC of mixture LB films was induced to photoisomerization by alternating irradiation of ultraviolet and visible light. A measuring range was reduced from initial potential to -1350mV, continuously oxidized to 1650 mV and measured to the initial point. The scan rate were 50, 100, 150 and 200 mV/s. As a results, LB films of BASH-DMPC appeared reversible process caused by the reduction-oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram.

  • The coronagraph is an instrument that enables the investigation of faint features in the vicinity of the Sun, particularly coronal mass ejections (CMEs). So far coronagraphic observations have been mainly used to determine the geometric and kinematic parameters of CMEs. Here, we introduce a new method for the determination of CME temperature using a two filter (4025 Å and 3934 Å) coronagraph system. The thermal motion of free electrons in CMEs broadens the absorption lines in the optical spectra that are produced by the Thomson scattering of visible light originating in the photosphere, which affects the intensity ratio at two different wavelengths. Thus the CME temperature can be inferred from the intensity ratio measured by the two filter coronagraph system. We demonstrate the method by invoking the graduated cylindrical shell (GCS) model for the 3-dimensional CME density distribution and discuss its significance.
