During the last decade, the exploration of nanoscale device and circuitry based on molecules has gained increasing interest. In parallel with this, considerable effort is being devoted to the development of molecular photonic/electronic materials based on various porphyrin arrays. This involves light as an input/output signal and excitation energy migration as a mechanism for signal transmission. Absorption of a photon at the light collector end of the porphyrin array yields the excited state, which migrates among the intervening pigments until reaching the emitter, whereupon another photon is emitted. As a consequence, it is relevant to understand the excitation energy transfer (EET) processes occurring in various forms of porphyrin arrays for the applications as artificial light harvesting arrays and molecular photonic/electronic wires. Since the excitonic (dipole) and electronic (conjugation) couplings between the adjacent porphyrin moieties in porphyrin arrays govern the EET processes, we have characterized the EET rates of various forms of multiporphyrin arrays (linear, cyclic, and box) based on various time-resolved spectroscopic measurements. We believe that our observations provide a platform for further development of molecular photonic/electronic materials based on porphyrin arrays.

Light regulates a variety of genes in higher plants. The expression of light-induced plant genes is regulated at the level of transcription via red- light photomorphogenic receptor, phytochrome, as well as unknown blue light photoreceptor(s). Ribulose-5-phosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) small subunit (SSB) and light harvesting chlorophyll a/b (Cab) protein are those of the best understood genes regulated by light. 5'-upstream flanking sequence (- -400) of Rubisco SSB and Cab genes sis known as a light responsive, enhance-like element. It responses to red and blue light in transgenic plant system as a tissue specific manner. Phytochrome gene is also regulated by light. In contrast to most of the light regulated plant genes, it is negatively controlled by red light. Search for the cis- and trans-acting factors responsible for the light signal is in progress to understant photomorphogenesis and development in higher plants.
The lead-based perovskite (CH3NH3PbI3) material has a high molar coefficient, high crystallinity at low temperature, and long range of balanced electron-hole transport length. In addition, PCE of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been dramatically improved by over 22% by amending the electronic quality of perovskite and by using state-of-the-art hole transporting materials (HTMs) such as tetrakis(N,N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (spiro-OMeTAD) due to enhanced charge transport toward the electrode via properly aligned energy levels with respect to the perovskite. Replacing the spiro-OMeTAD with new HTMs with the desired properties of appropriate energy levels, high hole mobility in its pristine form, low cost, and easy processable materials is necessary for attaining highly efficient and stable PSCs, which are anticipated to be truly compatible for practical application. Furthermore, Recently Pb-free perovskite materials much attention as an alternative light-harvesting active layer material instead of lead based perovskite in photovoltaic cells. In this work, we demonstrate a Pb-free perovskite material for the light harvesting and emitter as optoelectronic devices.
Effects of light on leaf senescence of Phseolus vulgaris were investigated by measuring the disassembly of chlorophyll-protein complexes in detached leaves which had been kept in the dark or under light. The loss of chlorophyll accompanied by degradation of chlorophyll- protein complexes. PSI (photosystem I) complex containing LHCI (light harvesting complex of PSI) apoproteins was rapidly decreased after the early stage of dark-induced senescence. RC(reaction center)-Cores was slightly increased until 4 d and slowly decreased thereafter. As disassembly of LHCII trimer progressed after the late stage of senescence, there was a steady increase in the relative amount of SC(small complex)-2 containing LHCII monomer. On the other hand, white and red light adaptation caused the structural stability of chlorophyll-protein complexes during dark-induced senescence. Particularly, red light was more effective in the retardation of LHCII breakdown than white light, whereas white light was slightly effect in protecting the disassembly of PSI complex compared to red light. These results suggest, therefore, that light may be a regulatory factor for stability of chlorophyll-protein complexes in the senescent leaves.
A piezoelectric device which converts mechanical vibration energy into electrical energy is able to harvest energy and the usable energy is mW ${\sim}$ W, hence a converter is necessary to acquire the energy efficiently. Various limited conditions should be considered for the design of AC/DC converter for energy harvesting of a piezoelectric device supplying small amount of energy. In addition to simple structure, compact size, light weight and high efficiency, the energy harvesting AC!DC converter should adopt the technique of self operating, in which only the harvested energy from the piezoelectric device is available. This paper proposes new AC/DC resonant boost converter to harvest efficiently electrical energy from mechanical vibration energy, analyzes the operating characteristics of the converter and proves its feasibility for energy harvester with PSPICE simulation and experiment.

Mesoporous $TiO_2$ granules were prepared by spray pyrolysis using nano-sized titania particles which were synthesized by a hydrothermal method, and they were evaluated as the photoanode of dye-sensitized solar cells. To enhance the cell efficiency, nanoparticles within granules were chemically interconnected by adding titanium ethoxide (TEOT) to colloidal spray solution. The resulting titania particles had anatase phase without forming rutile. $TiO_2$ granules obtained showed about 400 nm in size, the specific surface area of $74-77m^2/g$, and average pore size of 13-17 nm. The chemical modification of $TiO_2$ granules by adding TEOT initially to the colloidal spray solution was proved to be an effective way in terms of increasing both the light scattering within photoanode and the lifetimes of photo-excited electrons. Consequently, the light-harvesting efficiency of TEOT-modified granules (${\eta}=6.72%$) was enhanced about 14% higher than primitive nanoparticles.
Recently, there were many researches for efficiency improvement of DSC. Among of these works, research of surface treatment is still a prerequisite for electron diffusion, light-harvesting and surface state of DSC.[1] Using of the surface treatment, it can be raise up porosity of $TiO_2$ nano-crystalline structure on photo-electrode. There are chemical, physical, electrical and optical methods which raise up its porosity. In this paper, we have designed and manufactured MOPA-type ultrasonic circuit (100W, frequency and duty variable). Manufactured ultrasonic circuit to use to force cavity density and power into $TiO_2$ paste. Then, we have optimized forcing time, frequency and duty of ultrasonic irradiation for surface treatment of photo-electrode of DSC. In I-V characteristic test of DSC, ultrasonic and thermal treated DSC shows 19% improved its efficiency against monolithic DSC. And it shows stability of light-harvesting from drastically change of light irradiation test.
We show the novel hot electron based-solar energy conversion using tandem structured Schottky diode with double Schottky barriers. In this report, we show the effect of the double Schottky barriers on solar cell performance by enhancing both of internal photoemission and band-to-band excitation. The tandem structured Au/Si diode capped with TiO2 layer as second semiconductor exhibited improved ability for light harvesting. The proposed mechanisms consist of multiple reflections of hot electrons and additional pathway of solar energy conversion due to presence of multiple interfaces between thin gold film and semiconductors. Short-circuit photocurrent measured on the tandem structured Au/Si diodes under illumination of AM1.5 increased by approximately 70% from 3.1% to 5.3% and overall incident photon to electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) was enhanced in visible light, revealing that the concept of the double Schottky barriers have significant potential as novel strategy for light harvesting.

For effective light harvesting, a design weighting should be implemented in a front geometry, in which the incident light transmits from a surface into a light-active layer. We designed a three-dimensionally patterned transparent conductor layer for effective light management. A transparent conductive oxide (TCO) film was formed as three-dimensional structures. This efficiently drives the incident light at the front surface into a Si absorber to yield a reduction in reflection and an enhancement of current. This indicates that an optimum architecture for a front TCO surface will provide an effective way for light management in solar cells.
Expression of light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding protein gene(cab) is repressed in the dark and activited by light. However, the detail of its regulatory mechanism is not characterized so far. To identify the interactions of cis-acting elements and trans-acting factors involvedin this regulation, nuclear extracts from the light-grown and dark-adapted Arabidopsis thaliana leaves were anlayzed for mobility shift assay against 134bp fragments had two retarded bands and one retardation band, respectively, both in light-grown and dark-adapted bands in the dark-adapted tissues. A new retardation the cab 3 expression in the dark. Several light regulatory motifs are scattered in the 146 bp region of cab 3 promoter. One of the light-regulatory motifs could be the binding site for the negative regulatory factor.
