• A girl aged 15 years 6 months, had a class Ⅲ malocclusion characterized by severe maxillary anterior crowding and a retarded maxilla. Molar relationship was class Ⅲ on both sides, incisor overjet was - 2.9mm. and incisor overbite was 5.5mm. The patient underwent extraction of four first premolars and was trested with a multi-banded light force system. After 13 months, the patient gained a normal verbite-overjet relationship of anterior teeth and a class 1 molar relationship. Superimposition of pretreatment and posttreatment cephalograms upon the line SN registered at S showed backward downward rotation of the mandible.

  • LED BLU(Back Light Unit), based on MCPCB(Metal Core Printed Circuit Board) with anodizing oxide dielectric layer and improved thermal dissipation property, are presented. Reflecting cups were also formed on the surface of the MCPCB such that optical coupling between neighboring chips were minimized for improving the photon extraction efficiency. LED chips were directly attached on the MCPCB by using the COB (Chip On Board) scheme.

  • The bacteria of red colonies isolated from soil were identified as Serratia marcescens. The best solvent for pigment extraction was n-buthanol and the pigment was identified as prodigiosene. The extracted pigment was stable on temperature and light but not on acidity. The redpigment color changed into red in alkaline solution. The maximum absorbancy of pigment was 466 nm in alkaline condition and 540 nm in acid condition. And the pigment formed single spot on the TLC(starch). By the result of infra red spectrum, the red pigment has the same absorption pattern comparing with, the prodigisin produced by S. marcescens strain Nima. It was confirmed that the pigment was secondary metabolite and that the maximal peak of production appeared at 30 hrs after the inoculation, when the bacterial growth was in statinary state. Referring to the effect of temperature, the pigment was not formed at $36^{\circ}C$ and the optimal temperature for both of bactrial growth and pigmentation was $30^{\circ}C$. The optimal range of pH for pigmentation was 5.0 and under the condition the bacterial growth was not affected at all. Examining the effects of light, the bacterial pigment ation was more increased in darkness than in visible light.

  • Patterned sapphire substrates (PSS) were fabricated by a simple wet etching process with $SiO_2$ stripe masks and a mixed solution of $H_2SO_4$ and $H_3PO_4$. GaN layers were epitaxially grown on the PSS under the optimized 2-step growth condition of metalorganic vapor deposition. During the 1st growth step, GaN layers with triangular cross sections were grown on the selected area of the surface of the PSS, and in the 2nd growth step, the GaN layers were laterally grown and coalesced with neighboring GaN layers. The density of threading dislocations on the surface of the coalesced GaN layer was $2{\sim}4\;{\times}\;10^7\;cm^{-2}$ over the entire region. The epitaxial structure of near-UV light emitting diode (LED) was grown over the GaN layers on the PSS. The internal quantum efficiency and the extraction efficiency of the LED structure grown on the PSS were remarkably increased when compared to the conventional LED structure grown on the flat sapphire substrate. The reduction in TD density and the decrease in the number of times of total internal reflections of the light flux are mainly attributed due to high level of scattering on the PSS.

  • Absorption of UV light induces photocleavage of polymer chains to produce free radicals which initiate photodegradation of the polymer molecules. Discoloration, cracking of surface, stiffening, and decreasing of mechanical properties of polymeric products occur as a result of photodegradation of the polymers. Photostabilizers are added to the polymer systems in order to minimize the unwanted effects of UV light. It is well known that Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) are one of the most effective photostabilizer for polymers.' HALS have been used in a large number of commercial polymers and predominantly used in styrenic and engineering plastics. They are efficient and cost-effective in many applications despite their high prices. However, low molecular weight HALS vaporize easily, emitting harmful amines, and have poor extraction resistance, decreasing their photostabilization effect. They also decompose during processing and migrate within the polymers resulting in deposition on the polymer surfaces called 'blooming". These drawbacks of low molecular HALS can be overcome by use of the polymeric HALS. We have been studying photochemical reactions of the polymer systems. The present paper reports the preparation of a new polymeric photostabilizer containing HALS groups and their stabilization effects on photooxidation of polystyrene. The synthetic scheme for the preparation of polymeric photostabilizers containing HALS groups were shown at Scheme 1. N-[(Chloroformyl) phenyl]maleimide (CPMI) and N-[4-(chlorocarbonyl) phenyl]maleimide (CPMIC) were prepared by the known procedure. N[4-N'-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinyl)aminocarbonyl-phenyl] maleimide (TMPI) was prepared by the reaction of CPMI with 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine (ATMP).

  • n-ZnO/p-Si heterostructure is a good candidate for ZnO-based heterojunction light emitting diodes(LED) because of its competitive price and lower driving voltage. However, the conventional LED shows much lower extraction efficiency, because it has small top contact and large backside contact. In this structure, the injected current from the top contact enters the active region underneath the top contact. Thus, the emitted light is hindered by the opaque top contact. This problem can be solved by using a current-blocking layer(CBL) that prevents the current injection into the active region below the top contact.
