Today, we have often heard that information is a national resources, perhaps our most important national resources, and that government should recognize this and develop a national policy for the effective management and use of information. But traditionally the library has played a rather passive role in selecting, acquiring, preserving and transfering information. Now we have faced greater and much more diverse and more urgent demand from users and we have to cope effectively with a massive increase in volume and in cost in selecting, acquiring, storing and retrieving information. Individual libraries can no longer keep pace with the published outputs of the world. The solution of these problems lies in "national planning and in cooperation through inter-library cooperation and in the application of data processing to library operations." Also at the national level lies the responsibility for total bibliographic control of the national information output and for the interfacing of this with other national and international systems; for the development, adoption and maintenance of, standards in all areas affecting library work; for the provision of services based on centrally created and maintained bibliographic data files, and for planning and policy development of the national information system.

The scientific management of the university libraries is stressed prior to the library automation. Several tools and techniques for scientific management are introduced. And, to evaluated the library effectiveness, divided the library operations into 5 categories, each categories are summarized and analyzed in terms of how much the users succeed or fail in accession to the information they seek.

문헌정보학이 하나의 학문으로 발전해옴에 따라 문헌정보학 연구의 중요성도 높아지고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 문헌정보학 연구의 이론적 근거를 살펴보고 본 연구의 배경을 살펴본 뒤, 1993년부터 1997년까지의 한국문헌정보학회지와 한국정보관리학회지에 발표된 연구들을 대상으로 문헌정보학에 대한 연구를 조사${\cdot}$분석하고 이를 바탕으로 문헌정보학 연구에 관한 몇 가지 관점을 제시하고 있다.

본 연구의 목적은 직면하고 있는 기술과 시스템 환경변화에 적합한 정보전문가 양성을 위한 문헌정보학 교육의 내용을 규명해보는데 있다. 그 중에서 현재 정보환경 변화에 따라 요구되는 최신정보기술인 인공지능과 전문가시스템이 필요함을 인식하여 인공지능과 전문가시스템의 어떤 교육내용이 문헌정보학에 도입해야 할 것인가에 대한 해결방안을 모색하고 기본적 자료를 얻어내는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구 결과에 따른 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고도의 정보기술과 컴퓨터의 발전으로 인하여 문헌정보학의 전통적인 핵심내용이 새로운 내용 즉 네트워크를 통한 정보원 탐색, 온라인데이터베이스 검색, 정보시스템 분석과 설긴 컴퓨터활용능력, 정보검색전략 개발순으로 나타났다. 둘째. 인공지능과 전문가시스템 교육내용 중에서 문헌정보학 교육에 중요한 내용으로는 데이터베이스처리 시소러스 자연언어처리, 지식표현으로 나타났다. 셋째, 문헌정보학 교수들은 인공지능과 전문가시스템 교과목 주제가 대다수 학생들에게 유용한 주제라고 인식하고 있음이 나타났다. 넷째, 앞으로 사서/정보전문가를 돕는 인공지능과 전문가시스템의 역할이 참고봉사, 편목${\cdot}$ 분류, 정보검색${\cdot}$ 문헌전달 업무에서 더 중요하게 인식하고 있음이 나타났다. 다섯째, 문헌정보학과 교수들이 인공지능과 전문가시스템 교과목 주제를 중요하게 인식함에 따라 앞으로 인공지능과 전문가시스템 교육과정이 국내 문헌정보학 교육과정에 개설될 것으로 나타났으며 인공지능과 전문가시스템 교육내용 중에서 중요하다고 조사된 데이터베이스처리. 시소러스 자연언어처리. 지식표현의 과목은 앞으로 문헌정보학 교육과정에 도입하여야 할 것이다.

오늘날의 의학도서관은 진료, 연구, 의료업무 등과 관련된 정보를 제공하는 전문도서관으로서 보다 합리적이고 효율적인 개념을 바탕으로 하는 경영이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 의학도서관의 경영에 대한 이론적 배경을 살펴본 뒤, 서울시에 소재한 의학도서관을 대상으로 직접방문과 웹페이지 그리고 통계자료를 통하여 의학도서관의 경영자원에 관한 운영실태를 비교 분석하고, 그 분석의 결과를 바탕으로 효과적이고 효율적인 운영을 위한 방향을 제시함으로써 의학도서관 나아가 도서관경영 일반의 합리화에 기틀들 마련하고자 하였다.

본 연구는 학부제가 실시되고 있는 현재의 교육개혁 상황 아래에서 대학교육과 학문의 관계, 문헌정보학의 위치, 문헌정보학 현황 및 고등교육개혁과 문헌정보학의 관계를 살펴보고 문헌정보학 교육방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 문헌정보학의 소속을 인문과학에 두었으며, 학부제의 장단점을 논의하였고, 앞으로의 교육방향을 포괄적으로 제시하였다.

Considering the need for quality health information and resultant health care services in any society, this study was carried out to look into the status of library and information resources and services provided by medical libraries in Enugu State, Nigeria. The main objective of the study was to find out the information resources and services available for medical library users towards quality health care provision. Five (5) medical libraries of major teaching hospitals were used for the study with 980 registered users as the study population from where 245 users were sampled. Observation checklist was used to collect data on resources while questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents on the services provided. The Medical Library Association Standard guided the analysis of data from observation while frequency counts and mean scores were used to analyze data from the questionnaire. Major findings showed that even though some of the required resources and services are available and provided the medical libraries, most of the required resources and services are not adequately provided by these libraries.

유비쿼터스 정보 환경의 도래와 함께 전통적으로 도서관 건물을 중심으로 이루어지던 도서관 서비스 공간도 변화하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 유비쿼터스 정보 환경에서 도서관 공간의 의의와 범위 및 특징을 문헌연구와 국내외 사례 연구, 그리고 학부생을 대상으로 한 포커스그룹인터뷰 등을 통하여 조사하였다. 연구 결과 도서관이 제공하는 물리적 장소는 이용자에게 여전히 중요한 공간임을 확인하고, 유비쿼터스 공간의 개방성과 상호 작용성을 고려한 정보 공간 운영의 필요성을 제안하였다.

This study is on the history of classification in Western library from ancient to Harris(1870), before Dewey. It looks into the classification systems of librarians, bibliographers, booksellers and libraries of that time. One of the earliest was the classification of the clay tablets in the Assyrian library of Assurbanipal. But the earliest recorded system in the papyrus is that which Callimachus(B.C. 310-240) devised for the library at Alexandria. In the medival, the monastry libraries used many classifications. but their libraries were very small. Gesner, Naude, Brunet, Jefferson, Edwards, Harris etc. tried to make a good classification for bibliographies and libraries. Especially Brunet made the scheme based on the French system, and it used on bibliographical classification and shelf classification in the many libraries. In 1859, Edwards made the classification scheme for the public library in the Great Britain. In 1870, Harris made the famous inverted Baconian classification and it strongly influenced the Dewey Decimal Classification.

본 연구는 국가수준의 교육과정에 정보활용교육을 위한 "도서관과 정보활용" 교과를 삽입하고, "도서관과 정보활동" 교과의 교육과정에 도서관활용수업 및 도서관협력수업에 관한 사항을 명시함으로써 정보활용교육과 도서관협력수업을 제도적으로 정착시킬 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 제7차 교육과정의 교과별 교육과정에 맞춰 교과의 성격, 교과의 목표, 내용 체계, 교수-학습 방법, 평가 방법, 도서관협력체계 등 6개 항목으로 나누어 도서관협력수업을 포함한 "도서관 정보활용" 교과의 교육과정 시안을 제시하였다.
