  • With the help of the nuclear computational system for a large LMFBR (KAERI-26 group cross section library/1DX/2DB), the reactivity coefficients for the diagrid expansion and the pad expansion at the beginning of cycle of the equilibrium core of SUPER-PHENIX I are calculated and reviewed. the core is described using R-Z geometry model, and a two-dimensional multigroup diffusion theory is used. For reference cases, reactivity calculations for radial and axial uniform expansion are performed, and also calculated are reactivity variations due to changes in material density and core volume. The reactivity coefficient for the diagrid expansion is calculated to be -0.553pcm/mil. The temperature coefficient corresponding to the above value is -1.0766pcm/$^{\circ}C$ and is well in accord with the French datum of -1.09pcm/$^{\circ}C$ within 1.2% difference. With the use of 4he calculational method for the diagrid expansion effect, reactivity calculations for the pad expansion bringing about nonuniform expansion are performed, which show that the calculational method is very useful in the analysis of the pad expansion effect. The reactivity coefficients for the pad expansion are calculated to be -0.2743 pcm/mil and -0.2786pcm1mi1 for the averaged expansion model and for the integrated pancake model, respectively. Under the assumption of the free expanding core the temperature reactivity coefficients for each model are obtained to be -0.5766pcm/$^{\circ}C$ and -0.5858pcm/$^{\circ}C$, both of which agree with the French datum of -0.574pcm/$^{\circ}C$ within 2% difference.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the change in weight and heart rate associated with the use of phentermine through meta-analysis based on the published literatures. Methods: Eight electronic databases, PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, and five domestic databases were used to search the literature. Randomized controlled trials that evaluated the change in weight and heart rate with the use of phentermine compared with placebo were included in this study. The fixed-effect model weighted by the Mantel-Haenszel method was used in the meta-analysis, and the random-effects model was used when heterogeneity was present. Results: We included 12 studies comprising 677 patients. The change in weight observed with the use of phentermine (SMD = -1.37, 95% CI: -1.55, -1.19) was statistically significant compared with that observed with placebo. As per the subgroup analysis results, the change in weight by publication year, country, phentermine dosage, follow-up check was not heterogeneous. The change in heart rate observed with the use of phentermine (SMD = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.35, 0.92) was significant compared with that observed with placebo. Conclusions: Weight loss and increased heart rate were confirmed in phentermine compared with placebo.

  • The first step in the common pathway for the biosynthesis of branched chain amino acids is catalyzed by acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS). The AHAS is found in plants, fungi and bacteria. With an aim to identify new anti-tuberculosis drugs that inhibit branched chain amino acid biosynthesis, we screened a chemical library against Mycobacterium tuberculosis AHAS. The screening identified four compounds, AVS 2087, AVS 2093, AVS 2236, and AVS 2387 with $IC_{50}$ values of 0.28, 0.21, 3.88, and $0.25{\mu}M$, respectively. Moreover, these four compounds also showed strong inhibition against reconstituted AHAS with $IC_{50}$ values of 0.37, 0.26, 1.0, and $1.18{\mu}M$, respectively. The basic scaffold of the AVS group consists of 1-pyrimidin-2-yl-1H-[1,2,4]-triazole-3-sulfonamide. The most active compound, AVS 2387, showed the lowest total interaction energy -8.75 Kcal/mol and illustrates its binding mode by hydrogen bonding with $H_{\varepsilon}$ of Gln517 with the distance of $2.24{\AA}$.

  • The finite-field multiplication can be applied to the wide range of applications, such as signal processing on communication, cryptography, etc. However, an efficient algorithm and the hardware design are required since the finite-field multiplication takes much time to compute. In this paper, we propose a radix-4 systolic multiplier on $GF(2^m)$ with comparative area and performance. The algorithm of the proposed standard-basis multiplier is mathematically developed to map on low-cost systolic cell, so that the proposed systolic architecture is suitable for VLSI design. Compared to the bit-serial and digit-serial multipliers, the proposed multiplier shows relatively better performance with low cost. We design and synthesis $GF(2^{193})$ finite-field multiplier using Hynix $0.35{\mu}m$ standard cell library and the maximum clock frequency is 400MHz.

  • In this paper, a new CMOS on-chip current reference circit for memory, operational amplifiers, comparators, and data converters is proposed. The reference current is almost independent of temeprature and power-supply variations. In the proposed circuit, the current component with a positive temeprature coefficient cancels that with a negative temperature coefficient each other. While conventional curretn and voltage reference circuits require BiCMOS or bipolar process, the presented circuit can be integrated on a single chip with other digiral and analog circits using a standard CMOS process and an extra mask is not needed. The prototype is fabricated employing th esamsung 1.0um p-well double-poly double-metal CMOS process and the chip area is 300um${\times}$135 um. The proposed reference current circuit shows the temperature coefficient of 380 ppm/.deg. C with the temperature changes form 30$^{\circ}C$ to 80$^{\circ}C$, and the output variation of $\pm$ 1.4% with the supply voltage changes from 4.5 V to 5.5 V.

  • This paper proposes an efficient hardware architecture for high efficiency video coding (HEVC), which is the next generation video compression standard. It adopts several new coding techniques to reduce the bit rate by about 50% compared with the previous one. Unlike the previous H.264/AVC 6-tap interpolation filter, in HEVC, a one-dimensional seven-tap and eight-tap filter is adopted for luma interpolation, but it also increases the complexity and gate area in hardware implementation. In this paper, we propose a parallel architecture to boost the interpolation performance, achieving a luma $4{\times}4$ block interpolation in 2-4 cycles. The proposed architecture contains shared operations reducing the gate count increased due to the parallel architecture. This makes the area efficiency better than the previous design, in the best case, with the performance improved by about 75.15%. It is synthesized with the MagnaChip $0.18{\mu}m$ library and can reach the maximum frequency of 200 MHz.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of patient education interventions on distress, self-care knowledge and self-care behavior in cancer patients. Methods: A total of 1,102 studies were retrieved from 6 electronic databases in Korea. From these studies, 18 studies met the inclusion criteria with a total of 850 participants. Two authors independently assessed the methodological quality by Cochrane's Risk of Bias and Methodological Items for Non Randomized Studies. The data were analyzed by the RevMan 5.1 program of Cochrane library. Results: Overall effect size of education interventions on anxiety was -2.12 (95% CI:-3.90, -0.34) (p<.001). The effects on self-care knowledge and self care behavior were -1.08 (95% CI:-1.73, -0.43) (p=.001), and -1.41 (95% CI:-2.13, -0.68) (p<.001), respectively. Publication bias was detected as evaluated by funnel plot, but the fail-safe number was moderate. Conclusion: This study suggests that patient education interventions can relieve anxiety and self-care. Further randomized controlled trials studies are needed to evaluate the effects of patient education intervention on depression.

  • BACKGROUND: Microbes that govern a unique biochemical process of oxidizing ammonia into dinitrogen gas, such as anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) have been reported to play a pivotal role in agricultural soils and in oceanic environments. However, limited information for anammox bacterial abundance and distribution in the terrestrial habitats has been known. METHODS AND RESULTS: Phylogenetic and next-generation sequencing analyses of bacterial 16S rRNA gene were performed to examine potential anammox bacteria in paddy soils. Through clone libraries constructed by using the anammox bacteria-specific primers, some clones showed sequence similarities with Planctomycetes (87% to 99%) and anammox bacteria (94% to 95%). Microbial community analysis for the paddy soils by using Illumina Miseq sequencing of 16S rRNA gene at phylum level was dominated by unclassified Bacteria at 33.2 ± 7.6%, followed by Chloroflexi at 20.4 ± 2.0% and Acidobacteria at 17.0 ± 6.5%. Planctomycetes that anammox bacteria are belonged to was 1.5% (± 0.3) on average from the two paddy soils. CONCLUSION: We suggest evidence of anammox bacteria in the paddy soil. In addition to the relatively well-known microbial processes for nitrogen-cycle, anammox can be a potential contributor on the cycle in terrestrial environments such as paddy soils.
